    Hey, a quick update on the keyboard and the trackpad flex connector durability.
    I've had this exact CrKbd as my main keyboard at work for the last 2+ years, the only change was an upgrade to /DEV/TTY MT3 keycaps. Apparently, MT3 is my favorite profile :)
    Regarding the flex connector - it's the same flex cable, for almost 3 years! No issues so far, so it's way more reliable than I expected.

      I do have to say that I’m more than impressed by this. And it is also amazing that is so durable. I already found out what I’m going to do with my free time now that I’m finishing college. Thanks for sharing this wonderful project!!!

    I think it would be awesome to incorporate 3D printing to design a keycap that the trackpad could be inlaid into. That way you have a completely smooth surface on the keycap to match the rest of the board. Amazing idea and proof of concept!

    As a heavy TrackBall and TrackPoint user, this project really excites me. Thank you for sharing!
    I wonder if having the pointing device on top of a keycap will be too awkward for me, but I still believe it is worth a try.
    Also, it's good to see a project making use of the Elite-C extra pins.

    Really cool. This seems like a much better solution than encoding the mouse as keys.

    I really want to do this with a low profile sensor like the LNS-R2, but I don't really have any technical experience. It's a shame that this sort of idea isn't widely available, because it would really cut down on a lot of touch input problems and increase ergonomic efficiency even on laptops and tablet keyboards. I much prefer something like this to say, a trackpoint. My finger's already there, I should be able to do some small motion to get my cursor somewhere relevant. I would even take a separate USB peripheral with a small wire I can thread through my board if it meant I don't have to reach for my mouse.

    I hopped this would be something akin to keycap with capacittive sensor or at least that the touchpad wouldn't pop out off the key. Aren't very usable for someone who doesn't lift fingers while moving between boards. But thanks for the idea. Maybe a carved out keycap and cutted wtich stem will do.

    First of all - great project and execution!
    Do you think it is possible to integrate the trackpad inside the keycap so it would be level with the keycap surface?

    • @justineckert6205
      @justineckert6205 3 роки тому

      My guess would be no since it is still a working key, so if it were mounted to be level with the surface of the keycap, it would interfere with the switch. Just my guess though, I could be completely wrong!

    • @babybloc
      @babybloc Рік тому

      If you had taller key caps on your keyboard, like common OEM profile, and then had this installed on top of a base the height of a low profile keycap, there could be enough room for it to be level with the standard size taller ones
      It might be possible to make it a standalone key cap that you could just plug in to a normal board, with a wire extending under the other keycaps that would plug into a USB like any other mouse
      I would buy one of those
      Very clever design! It would be great to have better ways to control the mouse without moving your hand from the home row

    • @volodymyrlukashevych954
      @volodymyrlukashevych954  5 років тому +6

      Thanks! I've used a trackball for some time and set pretty high sensitivity on it. And now this trackpad on a keycap feels pretty much the same really. I'd say it was about a week for me to get used to it.
      The trick is that I set low initial cursor speed(sensitivity) and low acceleration threshold speed. Then very fast cursor speed after the threshold. That allows me to control cursor very well on slow speed motions and at the same time, I can move the cursor to the opposite side of the screen with one fast swipe.
      But I'm still playing with the sensitivity/acceleration settings :)

    Nice! Any problems with the cursor going crazy when you're hitting the H key?

    • @volodymyrlukashevych954
      @volodymyrlukashevych954  5 років тому +2

      Yeah, the cursor goes a bit crazy when I type, but it doesn't really make any problem.It's not possible to make a "mouse click" by touching the H key with this configuration. So in the worst case cursor will move to some menu/button and activate its mouseover event.
      There is the second version of PCB where I put the sensor on the PCB itself and typing doesn't affect the cursor:
      github.com/vlukash/corne-trackpad
      But I still like the H-key sensor better :)

    Модели тачпадов:
    HDW-28498-001
    HDW-27779-011
    Помоги пожалуйста, очень хочу повторить эту идею) Есть еще 2 телефона, их еще не разбирал.

      Привет!
      Насколько я знаю, 9700/9800 серии подключаются через I2C. Я так и не смог найти к ним даташиты когда собирал эту клавиатуру, в то время была информация только про 8520 ( ADNS-3060)
      Вот тут у protobits похоже получилось сделать рабочий POC для этого сенсора, но деталей я не знаю:

      @@volodymyrlukashevych954 Эх, жалко :(
      Но спасибо за этот ответ.
      Да, я тоже нашел, по ней сейчас тоже пытаюсь повторить, сейчас уперся в проблему микроскопических ножек контактов :( Вручную очень сложно паять, у китайцев долго ждать платы, так что решил для этого дела собрать ЧПУ с У.Ф. лазером для фоторезиста :)
