There was even a former bully Who apologized for her misbehavior against me. Its not only that the students get to know each other in a personal level buts its that she gets to really see through and deep in them for the first time, that makes this lesson so powerful
In middle school a group came to my school. The presented the line game and it was the first time I had ever seen it. I don't remember the questions asked. I don't remember what I answered. I have really a really bad memory problem. What I do remember is crying and making a friend. I can't remember who she was, I believe she left later that year. That line really made a big impact on my life though and made me think about the need to be empathetic towards others. I'm in my late 20's now. I still think about it to this day.
I really love the way she doesn’t give up on her students. I think the journals can be a good idea, ‘cause it can help them open up and see that they are more alike than what they think. I wished our school had a teacher like her! definitely added to my watch list
Our 6th grade teacher made us play the line game because that day, we were reading about the Freedom Writers. The end of the year we met the real teacher too! Our teacher was even invited once to join the freedom writers. I miss that teacher very much..
I like how everyone actyally glances at each other and then they look down and it kind of shows that they realize they have more in common than they realized and it helps them erase the lines that were drawn.
This is how you teach a class! And I'm not talking about what she's doing, its about her approach. She is connecting with her students in many ways (Which seems to lack in most schools in this current time)
I loved this movie because I used to come from a school similar to what’s potrayed in the movie, filled with gang violence and fighting everyday. It’s heartwarming to see that we shouldn’t be fighting because most of us probably go through similar things 🥺
I think it’s a stunning scene because it shows the reality of the life of many teenagers. The game played is a beautiful way to make young people understand that they have in common more than what they think. I really loved the meaning of it!
Man dis movie make me cry foo ;( No seriously, it's inspirational. Separation is the CAUSE of our suffering and being unified is the CURE - just some random gay white dude here.. But guess what I love you all regardless of your race & culture. What do you think of me?

In my life I've had a few teachers like her. I wish all my teachers were like her, I would probably would have done much better in school and wouldn't be so afraid of myself most of the time.
I remember watching this movie during English class, and at the part where she asked if anybody knows where to get drugs, a girl looked at me and said "___ knows" It's sad when people don't respect each other just because their a different race
I like how she was teaching those greater values to the kids to say that where ever they came from or what ever set or hood they've claimed it's nothing compared to anything that go going on now....their friends that gotten killed or end up betrayed shows that they didn't have to end up down those paths, they could be better then them....live better learn to forgive learn from their mistakes, embrace their strengths and acknowledge their characteristics for what they are based on what they go through.Parts of this I've done in school too we would write about things they make us who we are...and things about those that inspire us and make us be proud of being be what we are it's relatable to me.
we saw this video in my class, I immediately thought that this game was really effective for getting to know each other and eliminating prejudices, the teacher is a beautiful person who managed to eliminate the social differences in her class and arouse emotions through a fun game
We all have something in common and we all are going through something in life so instead of seeing the differences in eachother, let's just see how we can help eachother and learn from eachother and just live together and be happy
I remember watching this movie in school once. I was trying to be tough since my best friend (a guy) sat right beside me but inside I was a mess. This was a really good movie. Very emotional
I like how she doesn’t treat her students poorly because they are People of Color and regurgitating racial implications of racial biases & racial stereotypes. She is such a caring and independent teacher. WE NEED MORE TEACHERS LIKE HER, who actually cares about her students success!!! She really sees them struggling and wants to get them out of poverty or other financial hardships when it comes to financial instability & embezzlement of money.

It’s a cruel world out there and it sucks there’s more violence than love. Spread love not hate because saving one can save a lot more than you think.

Wow. When I watch this I realize that I should be grateful for what I have right now because not everyone is so lucky.
3:43
I really like this part because Jamal and Andre nodded small when their eyes met.
I like how everyone actyally glances at each other and then they look down and it kind of shows that they realize they have more in common than they realized and it helps them erase the lines that were drawn.
This movie hit different, the first time I saw it I was amazed.
I couldn't believe the white boy hasn't watched Boyz In The Hood...
The Original Legend 27 You know they wasn’t much white Dude watch that movie....
Dub Beats Doesn’t really matter.
cause most whites live in suburbs
Great movie
This is based in the 90s Everyone has seen that movie lol
This is how you teach a class! And I'm not talking about what she's doing, its about her approach. She is connecting with her students in many ways (Which seems to lack in most schools in this current time)
Why does that one black guy with the base ball jersey look like Tyler the Creator
I think he is
ForealReign LMAO 💀💀 stop
@@Feliciatanktop lmao
I know right!
this is the best scene in the whole movie
I loved this movie, especially this scene. It's where everything got real
My Fave Film of all time! never get bored of this! Music hits me when it comes to an emotional part
*when you're African American and haven't seen "Boyz n The Hood"*
C18 It's a kinda sad but powerful movie.
C18 *same*
C18 You’re missing out.
Same
I didn't like that movie. Mencae II Society was wayyyy better.
Man dis movie make me cry foo ;( No seriously, it's inspirational. Separation is the CAUSE of our suffering and being unified is the CURE - just some random gay white dude here.. But guess what I love you all regardless of your race & culture. What do you think of me?
I think you're fine, got nothing against anyone aslong as they're nice when am nice
nothing wrong with that. you are who you are. who are we to judge you just bc your gay. I have friends who are gay I dont discriminate. but thanks for showing love and compassion for everyone around you
I don't know you. So I can't form any opinions against you
In my life I've had a few teachers like her. I wish all my teachers were like her, I would probably would have done much better in school and wouldn't be so afraid of myself most of the time.
We need more teachers like her
I remember watching this movie during English class, and at the part where she asked if anybody knows where to get drugs, a girl looked at me and said "___ knows" It's sad when people don't respect each other just because their a different race
ThisIsMeLOLing
Omg how horrible of her😔😔 hope you’re doing fine!
💯
Snitch
I like how she was teaching those greater values to the kids to say that where ever they came from or what ever set or hood they've claimed it's nothing compared to anything that go going on now....their friends that gotten killed or end up betrayed shows that they didn't have to end up down those paths, they could be better then them....live better learn to forgive learn from their mistakes, embrace their strengths and acknowledge their characteristics for what they are based on what they go through.Parts of this I've done in school too we would write about things they make us who we are...and things about those that inspire us and make us be proud of being be what we are it's relatable to me.
I watched this in school last year and really enjoyed it so I'm happy to have finally been able to pick up a copy of my own.
we saw this video in my class, I immediately thought that this game was really effective for getting to know each other and eliminating prejudices, the teacher is a beautiful person who managed to eliminate the social differences in her class and arouse emotions through a fun game
My teacher had us watch this in class, My class was a lot closer after watching it.
My 10th grade teacher likes to put on a lot of real life based movies and this was one of them. Truly beautiful ❤️
I met the teacher, the real teacher, Ms.G she was a very nice lady.
Erin sure knew how impact students n made a change in society 🙏💪🏼
We all have something in common and we all are going through something in life so instead of seeing the differences in eachother, let's just see how we can help eachother and learn from eachother and just live together and be happy
I remember watching this movie in school once. I was trying to be tough since my best friend (a guy) sat right beside me but inside I was a mess. This was a really good movie. Very emotional
I was literally in love with Jamal when I first watched this movie, and see his little smile at the end, jsss
One of my favorite movies ever. So deep and inspiring! The real-life Erin Gruwell should be put in a Hall of Fame somewhere :) .
-IMP ;) :)
Wonderful thing about this exercise is; it shows we are all different and yet experience the same things. Nobody knows your story unless you tell it!
I wish my teacher would play this with my class. We really need it.
4:01 Chris, Pablo, Lanky, Wickedly, Alex, Ryan, Jennifer, and a few family members. I know there’s more but it’s been years since so I sadly don’t remember all of them. I wish I can cry about it now but all my tears have ran out so much before. I almost got murc (murdered) growing up too and even a few times that happened recently. It’s a cruel world out there and it sucks there’s more violence than love. Spread love not hate because saving one can save a lot more than you think.
This makes me want to be a teacher and work with kids. Let them know that I’m here for them, to have someone to talk to. Someone to look up to.
If my acting career doesn't work out, I would love to be a Substitute Teacher
Chatternat Acts MY ACTING CAREER DIDNT WORK OUT LMFAO I WANNA BE A SUB SO BAD BUT I DONT THINK IM SMART ENOJGH FOR TEACHERS COLLEGE :(
welp it's a hell hole now so don't wish that
Love this movie I remember when my teacher Showed us this movie Room 10 2017 Hume language center with my friends I first met in Australia truly amazing memories. 💝
we did this is English in year 9/10
and our teacher played this with us.
let's just say it got very emotional
Years later .. I’m watching This at work and got all chocked up
We played something like this in med school on the first day. Very eye opening.
I remember watching this movie at 2 AM and enjoying every second of it lol
Teacher played this game during my freshman year. Really humbled me in the end
My teacher made me watch this movie and now I’m in love ❤️ it really touched my whole class
Where’s the random innocent white guy who’s always scared ? 😂
Right? Plus I feel bad for him
Despite being white, he clearly lives in that community meaning he’s be witnissing and facing the same things the other kids face.
Definitely need to watch this movie again ❤️absolutely my favourite movie! Wished they had this on NF ❤️
0:10 That isn't Wilson High School. It may be based on the actual school, but I can tell it wasn't filmed there.
You don’t know how long I been looking for this movie
2:30 that was a good try though
As a grown man, I can say, I cried, laughed, smiled and some sadness, we all have some sort of Tourette syndrome......we are all battling. Pls remember, ALWAYS BE KIND
We watched this movie in hs (like everyone probably) but nobody was paying attention it was so sad cause that's why teachers don't care after a while
This is a powerful scene ,
I love the fact that there was at least one white kid in that classroom. Regardless of whether anyone wants to acknowledge it or not, white privilege is a thing, and I bet he learned a lot. 4:19
How was he privileged? He was the singled-out token.
@ ItsChrisYouGuys Respectfully, if you don’t understand just by watching this scene alone, I can’t be the one to explain it to you. It’s not my job, and frankly, I’m tired of continuously having the same conversation. There are plenty of resources out there to use to educate yourself. Please, do it.
@@kissame104 You're the one who brought it up though. This movie simplified it into "all white people are privileged and all nonwhite people are oppressed". No complexity whatsoever. I'm tired of it.
The line game is an ice breaker I wanna do when I start teaching. It is a way to get to know your peers and see you may have more in common than you know.
We played this game in middle school on a day called challenge day, it was super emotional and we all got very close, I hugged and girl I didn’t even know, and have never seen again, it was beautiful
Hey I did the same thing!
How many times have our teachers shown us this movie like each year? Jesus
What’s crazy is these kids left class and went to experience some of the same things they stepped to the line for.Whats crazier is schools in close neighborhoods have the exact same experiences. Most kids are just products of their environment. Not a lot of them make it out especially when you have certain skin color.
The new generation has improved a lot I can tell by this movie
Wasn't this movie based on a true story?
susana92 yeah
Yes! The last scene is a classroom picture of all the students and the teacher, it slowly transitions to the picture of the actual students and teacher that this story is based on
Yeaa base on true story in the end it shows the real people
This is a great tool for any sports coach.
My badness lol
inutero10 can you explain me that ( i am german and dont get it)😄
A K the term is “my bad” meaning my fault, i messed up. But her saying “my badness” comes across as silly as she was using slang they used but in a more innocent way.
Wow, this film is amazing and interesting! When I watched the scene, I was surprised by this strange game, but in my opinion this was a cool activity to do with a new class and to know better the students
