the same is true about the music coming out in those days: New Edition, SWV, En Vogue, Babyface, Guy, Boyz II Men.. .i hated so many things about being a kid, but the soundtrack to those years was phenomenal.
Naw you don't.. I had a real life Mr. Clark.. I didn't appreciate it at time because he was mean as hell and I was bad as hell.. but I really appreciate it on the other side of life
My stepsister at the time back when my dad was married to her mom, she actually met him years ago and got his autograph. She said that when she talked to him about his character in the movie that the part about getting slammed into the piano was actually his idea to do, and they chose to include it in the script.
He was particularly brilliant in this scene. His acting during the song is genius, and he never says a word. When he hears their harmonies and his demeanor changes from irritated & disgusted to surprised and impressed...a lot of actors would oversell that switch, but he does it perfectly. And he keeps it on that same level as walks down the line, then makes a perfect transition back to Joe Clark and marches them to the chorus room. Small things like that are what separates legends like Morgan Freeman from other great actors. There are a lot of great actors, but only one like Morgan Freeman
No doubt. That was a real RnB group called Riff singing. Notice the pun on names in the lunchroom scene when he told his chief detective to "take this Riff raff to my office", when they didn't know the school song? He knew who they were.
In 1989, Morgan Freeman starred in both _Lean On Me_ and _Driving Miss Daisy_. He was nominated for Best Actor in the 1990 Academy Awards for his performance in _Driving Miss Daisy_ , but lost to Daniel Day- Lewis.
Principals can't be struck like the use to now, because of so many rules. Some parents would rather act out when the staff at schools tries to discipline them; instead of doing it at home. Those days when kids got paddled at school; there wasn't all of the nonsense with kids going on and kids respected their elders too
At first it was fear but it eventually became unequivocal respect. That's what is missing in today's school systems. He fought for those kids and eventually they fought just as hard for him
He was so proud of them...the performance filled his heart with pure joy. Can hardly find a principal who has children’s best interests at heart these days.
Thank you!!! He was a horrible administrator! So many teacher grievances would've been filed! Where was the teacher's union? I wish a principal would berate me in front of my class! 😁😁😁Nevertheless, this movie is funny as hell...
So you rather have Schools that have Resource Officers slamming black kids on the floors and walls? Or Drugs and Gangs roaming in the hallways and outside? Or teachers being pushed, and bullied by students? Principal Clark turned that School around! Just like Fathers like the Character James Evans of Good Times or Coach Carter played by Samuel Jackson or Denzel playing the Football Coach in REMEMBER THE TITANS!!! THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF YOUTH TODAY, TEACHERS CAN'T DISCIPLINE, PRINCIPLES CAN'T DISCIPLINE, PARENTS CAN'T DISCIPLINE!!! BUT YOU ARE OKAY WITH THAT WHITE POLICE OFFICER KILLING OUR BLACK YOUTH? You be crying when them kids stand before judge and they getting sentenced to a long prison term. And the school is falling?

Would not have survived today’s attitude. My son was in all boys high school marching band that required serious discipline and long hours after school. Kids had to do well academically to stay in band. Occasional roughness, maybe grab by the shirt, slapped on the butt, in the face stuff, one got kicked once, but boy were they good and highly regarded throughout out the city, state, country. Kids couldn’t wait to enroll in the school to get in the band. No problem recruiting. Double in size. As time went on band director started encountering next generation of parent, especially mommas. “My child needs to be home by....l’ll file charges if.....” discipline went away, talent went away, size of band shrunk. Kids no longer had desire to be a part of the band. Enrollment started dropping. The mommas wanted their boys in the “great” band, but would not, could not accept the requirements necessary to make the band what it had been.

We need more of these teachers now more than ever!
This movie hit the whole entire world as it first got out
The eye contact of lead songbird and Mr. Clark during the singing is tremendous.
Clark would've been fired day one today lol. Unfortunately, we need today.
Yes, we need Joe Clark's in schools today. Unfortunately the real Joe Clark retired 😔
@@janetbrown6301 wow so sad!
Man I love Riff... "If you're serious" was like a priority in the slow jam tape making days!
