    We just moved up here in August. Drove up, but shipped our belongings up on Alaska Air Cargo. You should do a video about that option. It was SOOOO much cheaper and faster than other options.

      I have not heard of this option. I am saving to move, so really interested. Will look into this. Thanks

      How was it cheaper than driving your cargo?

    • @JayAndEleinne

      I brought as much as I could in my vehicle and trailer. The rest would have required a large truck. A Uhaul rental was over $4000 not including the extra fuel. And quotes from shipping/moving companies were $2500 to $5000. I had 1300 lbs of cargo flown for under $1400 and it was there in less than 48 hours.

      @@JayAndEleinne I planned on buying a 12 to 16 foot enclosed trailer here in Texas and flipping it when I move up there.

      @@sargefry Yeah, that would be a good option. Trailers are worth more up here also. Honestly, when we came 4 months ago we weren't sure we were going to stay. We spent the last 2 years traveling full-time all over the US and just kinda ended up here. So after being here (our 3rd time here) with only the things that fit in our Jeep and small trailer, we had to find the best option to get the rest of our stuff that had been in storage for 2 years. The Alcan isn't that bad for most of the drive, but the section from Whitehorse, Yukon to Tok, AK is terrible. Plan on only going about 45 mph in that stretch with a trailer. Good luck!! We love it here, hope you do as well.

    The alcan is hard on vehicles, but its not too bad. I'm from SE, so i always used to take the marine highway to the 48. Now I'm in the valley, so I've done the alcan a couple times now

    I was curious why I couldn't book any travel on the Marine Highway, thank you for explaining this.

    I moved to AK 6 years ago and I'd say this video is on point. Is living in AK worth it? You betcha! But it's nice for people to make the move with open eyes. Thank you, sir!

    As someone else said Alaska Air Cargo might be an option. I saw their building in Fairbanks. Basically from what i can understand [and researched] its just shipping your freight or whatever [suitcases, boxes, etc.] from almost any airport that Alaska Airlines flies to.

    Been a sub for years, but the constant change in camera angles is very distracting. Preferred it when you just shot from one angle.

    @sargefry I didn't book, but put in all our information as if we were going to book. I too used 30'. Three adults, four pets, and a cabin came up to $7000. There was nothing about weight, which I found surprising, but I bet they weigh your vehicle and trailer prior to boarding. I guess it doesn't figure into the cost. If I recall correctly, March 7th is the first available date. That was as of a week ago.

    • @sargefry
      @sargefry 9 місяців тому

      What i have found is that weight doesn’t matter. It’s per ft. I’ll try to book it and see what it says.

    If you obsess over having a perfectly clean and detailed car (all the time), Alaska may not be for you.

    But, seriously AR. What, even vaguely, is this constant change up with the camera angle about?
