I've been using Ozark Trail tents for years. I primarily use the 4 person tent that retails for around 39 and change at Walmart. It's a sturdy tent, if you're going out for a weekend it will keep you dry. I see the tents people buy for hundreds of dollars that they take on the AT Thru-hikes and I just shudder. They get blown around in the wind, the floors are just plain weak..... The Ozark tents can be left up for a while before the rain eventually gets through. I've had them set up for a few months before they leak. When I use them now I buy a camo tarp from Harbor Freight to create a flash over the tent and this keeps rain off the tent itself and you're guaranteed dry. I hiked across the USA and used a couple different brand tents. Ultimately I settled on the Ozark 4 person tent and it's a winner. Ozark catches a lot of grief from serious hikers that like spending big money but these tents are good, they're sturdy, and you'll stay dry. And that's my experience.
Yeah! I think for the money you can’t complain! And the camp tarps at harbor freight are a great idea, not only is it a pretty sure way not to get wet it’ll also keep you more “stealthy”! Thanks for the comment!!
make a mixture of mineral oil or it can also be denatured alcohol and 100% with transparent silicone on a 10 to 1or 2.. once it's well mixed apply it to the seams of your tent.. that will make it waterproof for years.. but You should really apply it to all of your tent including the floor.. (apply it on the outside)
I picked one of these up for motorcycle camping. It's an unbelievable tent for as cheap as it is. Easy to set up/take down. Super compact but roomy when set up. It's more like a 1.5 person tent. Really happy with the tent, can't believe it's priced as low as it is.
August 2024 Added twin air mattress. Works well. Still little space left. When camping in the woods. A firearm is a must. The world we live in.. Check your state for CCW permit and camping regulations. Thank you
Great video man I really appreciate it you went over everything I’ve had concerns about after only seeing it online You made a fan keep up the great work!
Upgrade it. Metal poles, better pegs, silicone spray, ect.. I got for bikepacking, it's lasted for 2yrs now, but I did do upgrades to it, that's why it held up.
I’ve had this tent for several years. It’s more of a 1.5 person tent… plenty of room for 1 + gear. I upgraded to aluminum poles from a previous tent that was toast. Those plastic tabs won’t break & you can’t beat it for under $30.
I have the same one plus the 7 person teepee tent. Both have worked well for me. The 1 person , i cover with a tarp. The teepee i seam sealed , and sprayed with waterproofing.
I just bought one to try it out. I have the same Brand in a 3 man tent. The material is good. I have spent 90 days sleeping in them. They survived 5-20 mph wind. Torrential rain storm 10/F temps. A couple of inches of snow will crush them. They will work in 4 seasons. My 90 days was between November through January . You need the right sleeping gear. One other thing is to buy a small tarp for 15.00 to set the tent on. This protects the bottom from getting scraped up or getting puncture hole from a stick or rocks.
Where I live, this exact tent does its job and then some. Endured a thunderstorm and high winds with it. It’s getting old and I need a cold weather tent and it’s not bad for what you paid.
I buy the smallest insulation pipe cover and cut small to fit wide disk on poles then place extra rain fly or top over that. Helps insulate rain proof. The clips if break ( dollar tree, auto zone, electronic and sewing center, camp gear.. Velcro or stick together works. The fabric I would recommend spray treatment will make it last longer. In real damp areas a foot print pad and that extra treatment will help it last.
I have the six person version of the tent and I'm using it right now. Since I have been at the current campsite, it has poured rain two nights and then today the wind is just unbelievable. It stayed totally dry in the tent but I had to prop one side of the tent to withstand the wind. It's definitely not a Four season tent because it's mostly mesh. A true Four Season tent is not going to be mesh. In testing it out I found that it does not keep the cold out very well at all, especially when it's windy. I would take a canvas tent over this in the winter, but for the spring through the fall this is a really nice tent. Even though they say mine is a 6 person tent, with my cot there's only room for me and my dog, and even then it's a little cramped. For the price, you definitely can't beat it in my opinion.
@@BluegrassAdventurer I have a White Duck Prota, 10x10, that's my normal tent. Since the Ozark was cheap, I was curious to try it out. There's a lot of $300 & $400 tents that aren't as rainproof as this. The 6 person is over 6' tall so the wind affects it more. The info says 6' but I'm 6' and it towers over me in the center. That's one thing I like about my White Duck...it's 6'6" all over. Don't have to be in the middle to stand up. But it was $500 more than the Ozark...yea, dumb purchase but I do love the tent.
I've seen many of tents across many brands use the plastic tent pole clips and have never witnessed one break. Not saying it's not possible, but just because something is plastic doesn't mean it's not durable for its intended purpose. Those clips are usually pretty tough. If one did break, just pop a carabiner clip in the little fabric loop and use that to clip to the pole, like on other parts of the tent. It would be much easier than trying to run the pole through that little piece of a loop.
Thank you for the video. I agree that brown or green would have been better than red, but at the price point, I suppose it's worth it, Aloha from Maui 🤙
Oooh, allow me to get my gear nerd on...this design is actually from a brand called Wenzel, they make camping and backpacking gear...bought this tent branded under Wenzel in 2010...it was a great tent for years. A few years ago I saw this on Walmart's website and recognized the design from my Wenzel tent. Bought 3 of them as I take others out camping and backpacking and they were $25/ea then. Noticed the warranty contact was Wenzel and Customer service was too. The only issue I have had with these tents is that the fiberglass poles tend to shatter. I have had all 3 tents needing replacement poles. Thankfully they were all still under warranty. Otherwise, it really is a great budget tent!
