John, you never disappoint. As a 30-year audio engineer this build is really inspiring. I just used your Ultimate Box Joint Jig that I built a year or so ago and was reminded how amazing your channel is.
That brings back memories. When i was just out of high school I got a job in a shop that specializes in making acoustic ceilings and walls for commercial buildings. my job as the new guy was to hand sand all the wood and prepare them for finishes. I did enjoy it and it did spark a love for woodworking,
John did a great job, but a studio control room would avoid lots of hard surfaces (IE, plywood). This is more apt for a drum room where you want a to capture a room sound, whereas in a control room you want as little reverberation as possible. I'm an audio engineer and I'm loving this DIY audio stuff John is doing
Can't write it enough - Plain, Simple, Elegant, Smart, Beautiful. As most of your project. Just love the way you do things without over complication (is that a word?...)
Sound is noticeably better in my mind. Much cleaner and crisper. Love the lighting detail, makes me rethink how I typically do tray ceilings and box soffits with recessed lights.
That is f'ing awesome. I'm sitting at the kitchen table and saw the thumbnail and read the description. At first I didn't realize that it was I Build It but thought that that would be a great idea to use in the front half of my kitchen. I'm seriously going to consider it but I might not use plywood. I'm making a cabinet and pallet wall at the front of my kitchen but was thinking that I have to do something else in the rest of the kitchen. I think this ceiling idea might be it.
Love the details of adding insulation in the cavities for sound dampening, and wrapping the black cloth down the sides of the slats so that the backdrop is all black even along the perimeter.
Your craft is superb. Very well done. And I love that you have a respirator on while sanding. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen work with wood (and other materials) cut and sand away without any protection. Folks don’t know how dangerous the sawdust can be over the years.
As a hobby of mine I have quality acoustic equipment. I can tell you john that your ceiling acoustic panel is spot on no reverb and bass levels aren’t deep either. Congratulations sir and I salute you.
Love how this looks. I’m doing something similar with 1/4” plywood; mainly for installation reasons (34’ x 48’’ with a ridge line of 14’-2”). The cloth is an interesting idea. Can’t imagine how much echoing I’ll get when the carpet is removed off the floor and this is a great way to deaden the space a bit.
Looks fantastic and the sound is great. Don't know what it was like before so I can't tell you how much better but the audio on this video sounded great to me. Thanks for sharing.
I'm a relatively new subscriber and I am just loving everything you do...thank you for your detailed walkthroughs and amazing work. So many great ideas, I'll be busy for quite some time!
Wont the Brad nails sag over time? I love this treatment. And the cutouts really create the textural depth giving the room added dimension. The wall screens of the end cuts clearly are also acoustic and so grounding..beautiful job John. Thank you for sharing all the tips you add in, so helpful.🙏🙏🇦🇺
Wow! One of the sharpest looking rooms I've seen in a long time! A master's touch in easy to recognize. And that's clearly the case here. Nicely done, John!
Looks like an awesome space to spend time in. Can't remember seeing the video where you installed the side/down lights. My man cave is the exact opposite
Your house has really come along John. It's looking (and sounding) great. Who would think that a man with the angle grinder skills you have would have such good taste! ;-)
This is the first of your videos I've ever seen, so I can't do a compare and contrast. But your sound sounds great, and I'm going to save this for when I build my husband and myself a home theater. ^_^
Great solution, why i spend so much money to my new office acoustic ceiling. :) But the already finished ceiling make the room already quite comfortable
Wow that is really nice! Nice concept with the bulkheads, lighting and slates. I'm really impressed with the whole concept; truly original to me. I just went to your link for more info. Looking forward to read about the little details. Norm from Montreal, Canada.
Nice project John, thanks for taking the time to share it with us. I enjoyed watching this one all come together. Play Safe From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada.
Even if you didn't need acoustic panelling, that ceiling looks *really* nice! Almost like you're in a luxury yacht :D It fits the aesthetic of the skyline diffusers perfectly :)

Thank you for the detailed article, it answered the questions that I had
How to make the side wood wall hanging in this video?
You make plywood look elegant, well done sir.

Wow John, that room is looking like something from a home deco magazine, very nice!
Looks like a studio control room. I love it.

@@ewokjerky4508 John is indeed a genius.
You are always thinking, experimenting and improving. And not afraid to go back and change things up.
Very elegant, smart and futuristtic, and makes the room look more like a modern art gallery than an office.
Sound is noticeably better in my mind. Much cleaner and crisper. Love the lighting detail, makes me rethink how I typically do tray ceilings and box soffits with recessed lights.

Sound was better in this video for sure! I love those wall pannels.
Love the details of adding insulation in the cavities for sound dampening, and wrapping the black cloth down the sides of the slats so that the backdrop is all black even along the perimeter.
Sounds great! Nice to see a channel, especially a woodworking/construction one, go above and beyond for improved audio quality. Much appreciated!
Very cool. Also - with all that sanding looks like this was a good test of your home-built dust collection.
Only you can get results looking like a million $ with plywood . Your designing and building skills are off the charts. Beautiful room. 👍
Your craft is superb. Very well done. And I love that you have a respirator on while sanding. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve seen work with wood (and other materials) cut and sand away without any protection. Folks don’t know how dangerous the sawdust can be over the years.
That is very elegant and very effective. Good job John.
As a hobby of mine I have quality acoustic equipment. I can tell you john that your ceiling acoustic panel is spot on no reverb and bass levels aren’t deep either. Congratulations sir and I salute you.
Really nice John. I couldn't believe it was plywood until I saw the video.
The lighted bulkheads are "The Bomb". Nice touch.
Very sharp-looking! Looks, and sounds, amazing. Nice work, John!
Thanks :)

John Heiz is my favorite carpenter ever.
Well done for the crafting and the acoustic part - even driving the nails in sounds great in this room. XD
Really nice work John! That ceiling turned out awesome.
Thank you!
That's a pretty badass office
Very elegant and impossible to believe this was just rotary-cut fir plywood.
Great solution, why i spend so much money to my new office acoustic ceiling. :) But the already finished ceiling make the room already quite comfortable

Awesome!!! Looks great!
Looks good and sounds good too.
Looks good! I think it would look better if you left the same gap around the edge as you have in between each slat. I really enjoy your videos!
That ceiling would look great in the Cayman Islands.
