Sweet
In 1980 while the Urban cowboy and outlaw movement got air play on the radio so did old country music. It wasn't till about 15.to 20 years later the radio stations stopped playing the traditional artists like Haggard Jones Lefty and Patsy Cline to name a few

What turned me on to country was the movie COAL MINER 'S DAUGHTER in the early 80's. I was a fan of classic country artists like Loretta Lynn (of course), Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Barbara Mandrel. Anne Murray, Emmy Lou Harris Dolly Parton and others that had a simple and laid back blues sound much better than the country sound today.

Might not have been classic country, but it was mostly good music..We survived Islands in the Stream crap. But not sure we can survive Bro Country.
True
I think classic country music was gone before this movie even came out

To me, a country song is like a bottle of wine. The more it ages, the better it tastes when you open the bottle.
Interesting perspective. Thanks for sharing it

In some ways, I guess
As it may have drawn more people to the.tradional sound.
Just like the outlaw movement had
It did kill it, Kenny Rogers wasn’t country music, neither was Ann Murray. There is still good country music being written and preformed today, you just won’t hear it on the radio.
