The Space Wolves are a non-Codex compliant Chapter, so they kind of just do whatever the Hell they want and do things their own way, like giving their Neophytes full Space Marine armor and throwing them into close-quarters combat as what are, effectively, Assault Marines, rather than putting them into a Scout Company like most other Chapters would. In fact, Scouts in the Space Wolves are generally older members of the Chapter that have, for whatever reason, developed an independent streak and become something of a loner, preferring to be by themselves rather than stay with a 'pack' of other Space Wolves, although in the Space Wolves it is mandated that a Neophyte first serve in the Bloodclaws as an Assault Marine before moving on to the Grey Hunters, the equivalent of a standard Tactical Marine, before they move on to other units like the Wolf Scouts or the Long Fangs, which would be the equivalent of Space Marine Devastators in another Chapter. Typically, a Neophyte starts in the Scout Company, does a stint as an Assault Marine and a Devastator to learn how to operate in both roles as either rapid assault or heavy weapons support, then they get added to the Reserve Companies as a Tactical Marine, where their varied skillset can be tested until such time as they find their specific niche within the Chapter as a dedicated specialist, which can include becoming a Tech-Marine, a Chaplain, an Apothecary, a vehicle operator or pilot, or even going back and becoming a dedicated Assault, Devastator, or Scout Marine. In that regard, the Space Wolves see the role of Assault Marines as a more fitting starting point, and that the older, wiser, and more patient a Space Wolf becomes, the more suited they are for more tactical and specialized roles. This also means that Space Wolf Neophytes who survive their time as Bloodclaws are usually much more experienced by the time they graduate to becoming Tactical Marines as part of the Grey Hunters than Neophytes in other Chapters, which the Space Wolves consider evidence that their system is more effective at weeding out the weak and producing better Battle Brothers than other Chapters that are considered Codex compliant. As a matter of fact, calling the Space Wolves a 'Chapter' at all is kind of a misnomer because the Space Wolves have essentially remained at Legion strength for their entire existence following the Horus Heresy, with the 'Chapter' being divided into the so-called 'Great Companies', each of which would be a Chapter unti itself rather than the typical 100-man formations of a regular Space Marine Chapter Company, hence why they are called 'Great Companies'. The Space Wolves are allowed to get away with this because, due to the peculiarities of their geneseed, they can't really recruit outside of their homeworld of Fenris, as only Fenrisian humans have been found to be compatible with the Space Wolves' Cainis Helix, the genetic marker that gives them their wolfish traits. As such, the Space Wolves can effectively only recruit from one planet, although they have made efforts to try and remedy this by having people from Fenris immigrate to nearby worlds and establish new populations for the Space Wolves to draw from, although this has had limited success given the relatively low population of Fenris itself and the strict requirements necessary to preserve the Cainis Helix without completely crippling the genetic diversity of the population through incidental inbreeding. As such, the Space Wolves can't be effectively broken up into Chapters because all their Successor Chapters would inevitably have to return to Fenris for new recruits anyways instead of spreading out and finding their own worlds to recruit from independently, which is why the Chapter system was established; to break the Legions up into Chapters that could operate independently all across the galaxy and, if they were ever corrupted or became renegades, would lack the power of a full Legion whereas the Imperium at large has roundabout 1,000 Chapters all across the galaxy to call on and sic on any single Chapter that goes rogue. Compare this to the Ultramarines, who at their height had 500 different planets they could recruit from and thus could easily divvy those planets up among their Successor Chapters before those Chapters likewise split off from the Ultramarines and went off into the galaxy on their own terms, as opposed to the Raven Guard and Salamanders, whose numbers were so decimated after the Horus Heresy that they were given a free pass to NOT split into Chapters. While the Raven Guard eventually recovered, the Salamanders never fully recovered due to their tendency to sacrifice themselves, and so officially the Salamanders had no Successor Chapters until the 42nd Millennium and the introduction of the Primaris Marines, although various Chapters like the Black Dragons Chapter would claim to be descended from the Salamanders, possibly as a result of the Imperium using Salamanders geneseed to found new Successor Chapters independently, although even then the Salamanders tend to deny that they're related to these Chapters even on a genetic level.
22:36 thats a dark angle. I know, they both wear green. The difference is in the shade and the shoulder armor (dark angles usually have all green armor while the salamanders have fire prints on their shoulders)
To answer your question, being made into a Chaplain was actually a punishment for Leandros. While his vigilance against corruption was commendable, the fact he contacted the Inquisition himself and didn't consult anyone in a position to handle a potentially Chaos-corrupred Space Marine Captain was a betrayal. Ordinarily, something like that would have probably got him sent to the Deathwatch, but Calgar decided that 'volunteering' Leamdros for the Chaplaincy was a more fitting punishment because it means he technically doesn't have a rank in the Chapter anymore since Chaplains aren't part of the Company command structure, and the only way to be promoted as a Chaplain is either by being recognized by your superiors or outliving them, and considering everyone knows Leandros is a snitch that sold a loyal brother and superior out to the Inquisition, and to an Inquisitor that turned out to be a Traitor no less, his ass isn't getting promoted anytime soon. Moreover, as a Chaplain, Leandros is supposed to keep an eye out for the corruption of Chaos, so if he fucks up and declares someone corrupted when they aren't or, even worse, allows somebody to get corrupted under his watch, hiss ass is on the chopping block for not doing his job. Moreover, Chaplains are expected to regularly demonstrate their own spiritual purity by facing Chaos directly and rallying their Battle Brothers to do the same, so he's regularly being forced to confront Chaos and the power of the Warp and not get corrupted or allow others to be corrupted, which is the exact thing he said Titus couldn't to. Granted, what Titus experienced was the equivalent of walking into a nuclear reactor and walking out without glowing like the sun or sprouting a third arm or something, whereas Leandros is expected to be within the general vicinity of the reactor and hope to the God-Emperor that it doesn't leak while he's there, but the fact remains that he has to regularly confront the reality that he was *WRONG AS HELL* about Titus. Oh, and the best part? Once you go into the Chaplaincy, you don't come back out. You're stuck there, so Leandros has no way of working his way up the ladder to becoming a Lieutenant, Captain, or Chapter Master. And for somebody like Leandros who was obsessed with following the Codex and being a boy scout that followed the rules, that sucks because now that attitude will earn him nothing as a Chaplain and instead it's only his devotion to the Chapter and the Emperor that will see him achieve any kind recognition. I would compare the situation to someone snitching on you to the IRS, and then rather being sent to jail, he's forced to be an accountant and help people, including you, with dealing with their taxes.
In the first game Titus is the Captain of the 2nd Company. After being backstabbed and taken by the inquisitor his position was filled by Cato Sicarius I believe. Cato became an honor guard or something to Guilliman so the current Captain was promoted. After being rescued and reinstated to the Ultramarines they couldn’t give him back his old rank since someone else had it, so they instead gave him the rank of lieutenant just under that of a Captain
22:37 (facepalm) sorry to disappoint you but that's not a Salamander, that's a Dark Angel. Look at the symbol on his chest Dark Angels Symbol is a sword with two angel wings. Salamanders Symbol is a dragon head.
Titus was captain of the 2nd Company in SM1. Then he got sent to the Deathwatch for a hundred years. When he came back at SM2 they made him Lieutenant if the 2nd Company because when he was away someone else took his place and it would be bullshit to remove the new cap from his rank.
Calgar aka Lord Calgary is the Chapter Master, he's the big guy on top for the ultramarines. Guilliman's back so he's technically the REAL big guy up top but he's kinda busy rn so Calgar still is the "mini big papa" for everybody in Ultramarines. Captains, regular marines, lieutenants, the special guys, everyone
Unless you're Vulkan, you are never becoming Primarch of the Salamanders, and considering Vulkan's history of dying in horribly painful ways, including suiciding himself into an Ork reactor filled with WAAAGH!!! energy, I wouldn't wish that on anybody. I mean when you've been nuked multiple times, burned alive, shot, stabbed, decapitated, dismembered, crushed, beaten to death, poisoned, suffocated, frozen, subjected to the vacuum of space, burnt up on reentry and crashed into the surface of a planet as a human meteor, can you really say you want to keep coming back to do it all again? I mean I'm absolutely insane and I relish the idea of immortality despite the horrors it'd bring, but I'm pretty sure most people would give up after the first few deaths, let alone the first few dozen.
He's pretty much very new to the franchise and forming his own Head Cannon like how some people see Star Wars for the first time and immediately want to be a Master Jedi. I just hope he's receptive to criticism that comes with being a fandom tourist spouting stuff that most people in the fandom know a lot about.
@revorealm2259 I'm aware of how new he is. I'm also aware that he's not totally ignorant and he's doing a bit for a laugh, and I'm ribbing him for a lark myself while also giving more lore and context for what exactly he's getting into. It's all in good fun, I assure you.
I respect your dedication to the Salamanders since day 1, and I enjoy this unusual path your carving through the lore. I would want to be a Rogue Trader. I would appreciate a video on either Rogue Traders or Eldar Harlequins. Sorry to tell you but that was not a Salamander you met. Sword with wings on the chest is the Dark Angels. Lion El'Johnsons bois.
It's a little dry, to the point of calling itself a documentary, but I can't help but recommend a two-part series called 'The True Size of a Space Marine Chapter' by Invicta. It goes through the standard organization of a Codex compliant Space Marine Chapter with a lore accurate depiction of the units in said Chapter, including their various vehicles and what have you, rendered as the video progresses to give you a proper sense of how big a Space Marine Chapter really is. Titus was a captain before he was demoted to lieutenant
Such s big Salamanders fan, you don't know their emblem. That Dark Angel appreciates your glazing.
3:59 the only exception to this are the salamanders. But every other legion, they never see their family again
didn't thousand sons pre heresy also could have seen their families? i remember major kill said something along those lines
@@sinabx4325If that was true it certainly isn't the case anymore.
