this is seriously the best thing that i have ever watched in my entire life. i've had extensions for like 4 years and HATED putting my hair up cause i never thought of putting them in backwards, which now seems like the only logical solution lol thankyouuuu!
if you have thick hair like me, on the messy bun, before you try to put pins in GENTLY put a hair tie around the base of the bun, if it still doesnt feel secure get a piece of ribbon or different type of hair tie (like scrunchy or something random) to tighten the base. after that attempt to put bobby pins in, if your hair wont stick try spraying hairspray on the bobby pins and taking thinner sections of hair to pin, the bobby pins may not be holding, with hairspray they hold up to 50% better (this is what i do for my hair, it may not work for you, it just depends on your hair type) thinner sections of hair means you will need more bobby pins but will make the bun more secure, this can also work for any other Bun! remember next time you do the bun you can always re-use your bobby pins if you want, and also just put a fresh coat of hairspray, (not to much though, btw aerosole hairspray works best for me)
Seriously, THANK YOU! This is the most helpful tutorial I've found.. I have medium to long length hair and it's pretty thin so I wear extensions a lot, and I feel like this is the ONLY good tutorial on youtube for my type of hair. Ugh, I'm just so happy I found this.
I seriously LOVE your videos. I have very long hair but it's thin. So, I wear extensions ALL of the time! I've been searching forever to find a hair tutorial like this. Thank you!
I have really thin hair and I've noticed that I have some trouble with sock buns because you can see the "sock" through my hair and also my hair looked to smooth and not "messy" enough. What I started doing is I put my hair in a ponytail and I will use a crimping iron to crimp a few random sections of my hair (not all of it because this isn't the 80s lol). Then I tease it a few sections and use a texturing hair spray and GENTLY scrunch it a bit. Once that's done I use the sock to make the bun. It looks so much better than when I try the messy bun with my normal hair. I've received compliments on the crimped pieces. :)
Ok... so I know this video is 9 years old... BUT OHMYGOSHHHHH!!!!! IM GOING TO TRY THESE RIGHT MEOW!!!! I'm so excited! I'm not girly at all or very good at doing anything special with my hair. Trying to learn and stumbled upon your video. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for those ideas! They are great! Your beautiful! Ignore those ignorant comments from some, They are jealous! Keep on with what you are doing!
FIVE years later.. I'm 21 now, i was 16 watching this for the first time like :O SHE DID THAT. and ever since this video my hair extension life has changed. its been so amazing watching you evolve into who you are today, you were and continue to be a huge influence on not just beauty but your whole attitude. PER SER VERE. OH and you helped me dye my hair fire truck red haha
Love your tutorials! I have layers in my hair and I tried the roll down method a couple times..and it never worked :-( Can you give me any advices?? Thx xoxo
OMG Thank you so much for showing how to use a sock bun! I say this because I have JROTC and whenever I have to wear my uniform I usually do my hair in a bun or a fishtail braid and just tie the end up into a little bun and I've been wanting to see how to make a one of those hair doughnuts but I don't have a sock bun! Thank you so much! Your tutorials are great and easy to follow esp with a the notes you give!
how are you not one of the top channels for beauty and fashion? you're super enertaining and real. a lot of these gurus just make my head hurt listening to their helium voices haha. love your vids! you're freakin awesome (:
Just wanna say 1st how adorable you are! You seem so sweet & down to earth, "I can't be walking around w/ a small bun cuz I gotta big head. So I gotta have a big bun for my big head"! Girl you had me dyin laughin cuz that's my exact thought when I'm putting my hair into a bun, I gotta have a big ole bun to accommodate my big ole head! 😂😂😂 I've seen many sock bun tutorials & yours by far is my fav! I also loved & appreciated the variety of bun styles you gave so if one doesn't work out you have the option to try out another! Thanks so much gorgeous girl! ❤
This tutorial is awesome! I was going crazy trying to figure out how to do a big sock bun when you have thin hair. Thanks! Now I know exactly what to do. You rock
The second way you did it when rolling your hair Roth the donut bun I was like genius! I have long thick wavy Spanish hair and its difficulty trying I get all of my hair neatly in place. I'm definitely trying that. Love your messy bun too
I enjoy watching your hair & makeup tutorials! You also crack me up during your tutorials! They are entertaining & helpful! Keep doing what you are doing! Also your eye make in this video is pretty can you please do a tutorial?! Thanks
The hair extension trick is genius! I thought about it once but nvr tried bc I assumed it jus wouldn't work! Lol! I.like this much better than yhe pony wrap method for updo with extensions iy makes the hair as a whole look full rather than jus the ponytail! Thx Nicole!
I was expectical about using any buns due to my thin, fine hair but the first bun demonstration was GREAT on me...thanks so much for making me do more buns...LOL
Those donuts are also great to put on your wrist when you're doing your makeup. You can just take your eyeshadow brush across that and it's clean and ready for a lighter color even! I buy them at Dollar Tree every time I go. I'll buy two or three because they do wear out fairly quickly. There two or three dollars at Walmart for a drug store so that's why I like to get them at Dollar Tree! Another thing that's fun to use like that is the hairy scrunchies! I lost half of my hair! Once it started to grow back I had hair that was 12 to 14 in Long, and half my hair was 224 in Long! The only way I could wear it without wearing a wig was in a bun, but my ponytail wasn't much bigger than my pinky finger. I would pull my hair up in a high pony, and then wrap one of those scrunchie hairy bun things just like the donut only I found it around one more time then I sprouted my hair around like you did, and opened and elastic real big and went over that hair. I took short little bobby pins and started wrapping the ends around and putting them in. I had a bun no bigger than a golf ball, all the sudden turn into the size of a baseball. It's a Wonderful way to do it if you have very very very thin hair or hair loss. I would use some brown eyeshadow if I had thin spots that were showing. I would just put it on big fluffy eyeshadow brush, and Buffett into my scalp where the light spots were! Also if the hair loss or just thin hair effect short hair line, I use wunderbrow and paint on a hairline. Just before it dries I take a spoolie or a very narrow brush and drag it toward my hair so it looks like real hairs. You absolutely cannot tell! If you really look at it and concentrate you can figure it out but...
Thank you this was so hopeful! And also I'm not saying this to be rude but I've seen a video of you without makeup and you look so much better! Like honestly you don't need all of that stuff on your face...you're beautiful naturally!
hey girl! you just saved my life and my B-party with the second one! i put a big flower beside it and it was adorable! it stayed still all night long!thanks for sharing:)
Ahh I am so glad you did this video, I always struggle to do upstyles with my hair extensions coz they always stuck out until I saw this cool trick love it!!
This video is amazing! I recently got a donut so I've been watching this over and over practicing. But I don't have extensions or thick hair so it looks so crappie! 😢So I was wondering if you could possibly do a update video of tjis without any extensions. Please and thank you! Xoxo 💕
for the messy bun if you have thick hair instead of pinning the hair just grab one of those elastic hair band( not the small tie) and tie the hair with it loosely than pin where its needed this is what I do :) thank you so much for the video !!
works a dream! love the roll technique, I'd never thought of that, I always just wrapped before but the roll is easier and gives a neater finish so thank you very much x
wow... very useful tutorial .. u r just amazing .... !! i already have this bun band but i couldn't do this wonderful bun before watch ur vdo .. thank u .. love u .. muaahhh
I remembered how you put your bun in with extentions. you showed us in another video! See I love watching all your videos! Your my favorite makeup youtuber!!
Love your tutorials I'm a new fan!! Tried the 2nd look in this video with the donut and it was so easy even with my mid-length silky hair. Love your work!
The third one is similar to what I do, expect when she starts pinning and is still holding it...I use a hair time at that point and then start pinning. This helps to hold it in place regardless of hair extensions or thickness.
I don't know why but I cracked up at the way you smiled right after you said "take it, flip it, and clip it". Lol you looked like you were thinking like "yea I just made that shit up...I did that" Lmao love you girl and thank you so much for this tutorial, you make it look so easy!! ♥
BTWWWWWWWWW ur hair looks SOO healthy knowing uve bleached and dyed it many times ugh luckyy! How about a video giving tips on how to repair damaged hair?
I can do all 3 but your r amazin and soo pretty .I SUBSCRIBED! This is my dream video I have been looking for more big messy bun and always wondered how 2 roll hair into doughnut ! Thank you !! x
Thank you! I didn't understand how to put in the sock bun correctly i just tucked the excess hair under my bun instead of wrapping it around like you did .thank you :D
Been watching you for about a year now when I found this lil nugget...you're the same...genuine and that's awesome. Don't you hate it when hair decides it wants to be stuck in your lip gloss??
oh my lannntaaaaa!!! F I N A L L Y a perfect how to & walk thru of the perfect bun!!

You gave me a great idea with the extension to get a fuller bun or pony tail, because i avoid using extensions in the classic way.
I love all three! These are perfect for my work as it adds a bit more.. glamour to a boring uniform than a pony tail (:
the sock bun is diffinitely the cutest one !
Thank you this was so hopeful! And also I'm not saying this to be rude but I've seen a video of you without makeup and you look so much better! Like honestly you don't need all of that stuff on your face...you're beautiful naturally!
