How do you define value in a smartphone? 🤔
Ability to run Gemini nano
1) Small screen (most important)
2) Large RAM
3) Pure Android
My favorite phone would be a REALLY small Pixel Pro.
With 16GB of RAM. (32GB in the future?)
Please make it happen Google!
(But PLEASE DON'T sell it as a fold.

Camera: unimportant.
Processor speed: unimportant.
AI: unimportant.
I just open lots of chrome tabs and apps at the same time, switching back n fourth all the time - that's why all I want is RAM basically...
Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot support. That was the reason I ordered an 8 last week... But I'd switch if they built a small Pro with RAM 😉
Ergonomics and technical competency. Elite is not hurting my hand and sucking at nothing. That's elite.
Pixel 5 was elite.
The display on pixel 8 pro is elite in accuracy, but it's too big and hurts my hand to hold it so it fails the elite check for ergonomics. So pixel 8 pro isn't elite. That's basically it for me.
Pixel 9 Pro (the small one) has the potential to be elite if it can beat the iphone 15 battery life. That phone might just be the best phone ever made if it's good. If they can put the Pixel 8 Pro display and cameras into the form factor of the pixel 8 🔥.
All round quality, reliability and bang for buck!
I am very happy with my Pixel 8. Got mine here in the Philippines for just around $540 brand new Japan version. Not bothered with that camera sounds.. so it is a great value!

As to value, depends as you already mentioned and differs to everyone's taste/situation. For me it's not worth the 300€ price gap, still rocking the P6a.
What's your take on Gemini Nano not being available to the pixel 8? And what that may indicate for future software releases for the P8 or lack there of.

Being honest whenever im looking at what i want in a phone its mainly software support & cameras and great freaking haptics. I am a haptic snob. I don't know why it's just who I am.

Don't see the point in this phone especially since Google is gimping it by denying features the Pro will get. The Galaxy S series is a better buy this year.

@@whysoserious4464 love it, i already miss all the gemini nano supported apps... oh there arent any real apps that call the gemini nano api yet... so nobody knows if its actually useful or not. like i remember when people complained about video boost, that it will be only for the pro model & when it came out. now barely anyone is using it or only in specific use cases. same thing with the 50mp camera mode only for the pro model - everyone uses 12mp anyway since the 50mp mode `(on any phone) has issues and need very good lightning for a minimal better picture u gonna crop later on anyway + takes a bit to capture

S24 series here in India basically is a mess.
S24 Exynos not much upgrade over S23.
S24+ is hot garbage for the price
S24U is priced so high and have meh cameras, display grain issues, panel gaps and so on and so forth that iPhone 15 Pro Max, Vivo X100 Pro, Xiaomi 14 Ultra and the Pixel 8 Pro is the better deal
Agree with nearly every point you stated here with just a couple things that need to be mentioned! First, you neglected to add one kind of important feature in the Pixel 8 Pro which is not included in the standard Pixel 8, which are a few "extra" camera enhancements plus a telephoto lens (both are features I personally don't utilize and probably most others don't) - again, not worth an extra $300.00 in my opinion. Regarding the Tensor 3 chip, it's a great chip for what Google intended it to be. Pixel phones were not meant to be gaming devices and those who purchase them don't prioritize gaming! The other is Google's decision to not provide the Pixel 8 with the new Gemini Nano (the new AI model for on-device tasks), a decision Google claims is due to the standard Pixel 8's hardware 'limitations', which I believe is totally bogus! All of us Pixel 8 owners are hoping that Google will reverse that decision and provide the Pixel 8 with Gemini Nano. If not, that would be a terrible travesty because the Pixel 8 is one excellent device in nearly every aspect!!

Gonna admit I settled for my Pixel 8. While I'm loving it so far I've been searching for a white whale device for some time, and I end up getting a new phone within a few months.
So since the Pixel 8 is getting 7 years of updates and (Supposedly) easier to repair than others, I went with the 256 GB model. I do miss the SD card slot that Android used to have, but I can get past that with my Tab S9 and maybe another gaming device from Anbernic. (They make some badass metal android powered handhelds) Since it was on a sale I grabbed mine for $540 and it's been nice.

Just so everybody knows, these phones ARE on sale now. Not sure for how long. 8 Pro the lowest is 749, the 8 is at 559 although I saw some places 499.

In my opinion I feel the same way but everyone keeps telling me because the pixel 8's not getting some new Gemini AI feature. They call it a dud now but I don't think so but hopefully Google reverses their decision so they're smaller. Phone gets it as well
So far I have enjoyed the pixel 8 coming from a OP6T smaller phone but it's ok

I think I'mma go with the 8 Pro. It's a device that I'm gonna use 2-4 hours every day probably for 2-3 years. So I might as well just get the bigger, brighter display with better battery life and the slightly better camera. And I mean, the $260 difference isn't that big.

I love my Pixel 8. I did nintendo switch emulation, and that was meh-average.
The pixel 8 gets VERY hot VERY fast…just watching UA-cam already makes it hot to hold
the 8 pro doesnt has the problem, gets a bit warm but thats with every phone when just holding in ur hands, i gonna beleive they used the good binned chips in the pro model while the non pro got worse chips that require more voltage/wattage internally to run stable but gets hotter as the result
I bought an S24+ last week and got a Pixel 8 Pro on Swappa. I thought the P8P would win by a lot because the camera was so much better, but I'm finding the more that I hold both cameras and take the exact same pictures, the Galaxy phone is VERY close to it, and offers much better video, customization, a monster chip, and better battery. I may be converted.

Yeah I would give the edge to the pixel and the camera department but everything else the s24 plus is a better phone from everything else modem processor everything so yeah I agree
The battery of the Google pixel 8 phone is very weak compared to the battery of the Sony company. Google is probably trying to eliminate from the software, users who deal with gaming. The google phone is for business people and not for those who do not work but received this device as a Pixel gift from somewhere. In general, a phone given as a gift is like a gun given to a person without a gun permit. Any company must understand this matter and stop contracts with companies that offer phones to people who cannot afford them either financially or psychologically.

Hey thank you for reviewing the Pixel 8 and week or so ago I would agreed with you but after Google has let the cat have the bag and a matter of speaking that the regular pixel 8 won't be getting nano Gemini or maybe it's the other where other way Gemini nano I'm not sure because of hardware limitations it speaks to the pixelate being nerfed 5 months after it came out and so what's it going to be like in a year. I really like the pixel 8 but I buy pixels for the software not for the hardware because the Galaxy s23 and the Galaxy s24 are much better phones and every way processor modem connectivity bill quality everything The pixel probably might beat him on camera but then again it only has two and the s23 and the s24 also have a telephoto lens so I'm not sure about that anyway I won't be buying any regular Pixel phones anymore as Google has made it clear they're going to restrict some core IA features from the regular phone.
This phone should be sold for 99$ and google should kiss you one the foot for buying this trash

No, that's one of the features that Google thought should be kept to the Pro to justify the extra $300. Tbh, I have a Pixel 8 and I don't mind - the camera is great regardless
