Sam (that's me!) made a misplay when overloading Mizzix's Mastery. He tapped 1URR when he needed 1RRR. It didn't affect the rest of my turn, but still... Whoops!
4:21 I am a little surprised by the turn sequence of casting Muldrifter before Roon. Roon has a 2cmc activation cost and summoning sickness. He could have cast Roon first, then evoked Muldrifter and flickered it to draw 4 cards instead of two and would still have a flying blocker. If he needed Muldrifter to draw land, then I get it, but I always ramp into Roon first, then cast the cards I want to flicker.
It's kind of worth noting that with Mizzix's Mastery you cast all the copies at once. So you would have known the targets for the Mystic Confluence before he had re-cantripped and used Firemind's Foresight, even tho the Misdirection wouldn't have worked. Still a great game. The early aggro from Kevin had me hoping for a spiky Triumph of the Hordes to knock 2 (or everyone) out.
8:38 - Sam cast Firemind's Foresight and then takes the long way around to winning the game by eventually bouncing everything with Storm instead of just going for the Reiterate combo: Firemind's Foresight > Reiterate @3 > any 2cmc ritual such as Reality Spasm or Desperate Ritual > Lightning Bolt or other damage spell at 1cmc. Cast the ritual, then Reiterate for infinite storm and Mana and then win off of pretty much any spell, including the Bolt.
This was a super budget build at the time (around $50 or less), so didn''t have the reiterate combo. Temporal fissure was probably the most efficient win-by-salt victory the deck had. I always liked the art on Griffin canyon nice to see it in your mistform deck would be nice if they would make a good griffin commander and some good griffins so it could be a tribe
When I first started to play Commander with my group of friends, we had a Mizzik player. As you mentionned, we quickly learned that Mizzek must not stay on the battlefield. This resulted in my friend playing Mizzek not doing much anymore since we were killing his commander on the spot each time. Mizzek is now part of the 99 and he swapped for a different commander.
The last game I played with Mizzix had it being destroyed once, then recast again on the turn that I won. Managed to get off a Mana Drain for 7 on a Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts. Was able to cast Firemind's Foresight for actual combo pieces on end stepp, Mizzix on turn, cast a number of spells to get the rest of the counters I needed, then do the Reiterate, Desperate Ritual, Lightning bolt combo. Then I turned the deck into a combo of "budget" Melek and Nin, the Pain Artist, taking out the expensive counters and mana rocks.
I take it this was before the change to proliferate (and thus before the release of War of the Spark), since Sam didn't proliferate all counters on selected players/objects (poison + experience). Of course, it could have just been habit of using card text as opposed to Oracle.
7:03 Depending on whether this was before the rule change or not, the proliferate would have also increased Sam's poison counters as you can no longer choose which counters on a permanent or player to proliferate, it's all or none. Though it wouldn't have made a difference.
Tezzeret's Gambit doesn't copy specific counters, but specific entities for which the counters are added, so when Sam proliferated himself he should have also gotten a poison counter
[Pikachu face.jpeg] Good catch. I've been proliferating wrong for years, whoops. EDIT: Apparently this rule changed in 2019. It was still correct at the time of filming (2018). ...Wasn't aware of the rule change until you pointed it out, though. Thanks!
So it wasn't relevant, but you can't Misdirect Mystic Confluence cast in this way, as Misdirection only works on spells with a single target, and Mystic Confluence had 3 targets.
8:17 am I missing something or did Sam pay for an overloaded mizzix mastery with 3 islands and a mountain? I know the cost of generic mana is reduced by Mizzix and electromancer, but what about those 3 red mana?

I love Mizzix though. Some nuts stuff. Playing Melek a week ago, I cast Mana Geyser off the top to copy it, make 22 mana, cast a Jaya's Immolating Inferno from my hand using Primal Wellspring to copy that while adding another 4 mana in rocks and lands, blasting the table for 50-something. I don't think I'd end up scooping to bouncing my permanents though. His graveyard was exiled and though he had all the cards in the world, you can still do a decent amount of stuff over the next couple turns. I understand the casual nature though, if they're playing what they call budget, they might not put as much into it. Just a fun game.
I would just like to say, after seeing the commander close ups in the video thumbnail--MIZZIX IS A GIRL??? I'm also now thinking about how goblins are apparently hairless mammals, so what are they, really?
Sam, as much as I like the Mizzix-Deck (Building one of my own atm), I gotta say: You forgot to add a poison-counter on you everytime you proliferated. :/
Yeah? Nothing looked overly crazy. You don't play Mizzix without a Cyclonic Rift, really, and it doesn't necessarily need to take the deck all that high.
Mizzix's Mastery is less than $5 and the mystery boostery printing is less than $3. I suppose it was at $15 at it's highest. It was also in the Mizzix precon. Rift though, sure? But I would say a budget could easily be $50-100 for a lot of people. I might call budget $50-75. This seems to fit into that with no problem though.
