if im being honest, smith machines are made for hypertrophy for advanced bodybuilders. might be a hottake but especially lifting alone you can build more muscle and push to failure much more safely and effectively on a smith bench than barbell. yes you lose some stability but overall beginner lifters NEED to start with barbell movement, so they build muscle and stability.
Hell I use the smith machine for inclines and bench pressing because I go by myself all the time. In addition, I don’t ask for a spotter but I mean I think for being 110 lifting 145 isn’t to shabby. 5,4
always training to failure only works for beginners, and you need to keep a training log otherwise you will never know when you plateau nor will you be able to manipulate the intensity, volume and difficulty of your training, those things are absolutely necessary to maintain progressive overload
I know I'm doing the exact same thing you said I shouldn't do, but Imma do it anyways. Training every day is fine as long as you get to rest the muscles you are training and doing every set to failure is great. But for those unaware if you train regularly it won't matter if you don't do every set to failure, it's ok to do some only two reps from failure because it doesn't make much of a difference

But there are other factors like it was my first time and at the time i was rocking a fat build at 6'3 with really long legs so it was a lot of ROM. But it doesn't really matter where i started since I consider myself a world class lifter now.
