- This time on STW, El and Keyper set off on a day hike and demonstrate how to build shelter to spend the night in the wild with only a basic survival kit. Also see El Director attempt to make fire by rubbing sticks together. Our first multi camera episode!
Survival Kit:
Space Blanket, Matches, Lighter, Cotton Balls, Signal Mirror, 550 Cord Bracelet, Fish Hooks, Six Bullets, Three Feet of Duct Tape, Two Water Bottles, a .44 Mag Revolver, a few Knives.

I grew up in Washington, call Montana home now, but live in Idaho, so I have a bit of experience with three of them. If you can handle the winters, I prefer Northwest Montana (near Glacier). It's beautiful, majestic, and has all you need to live off the grid. Firearm laws are also less strict, and there is no sales tax. Idaho would be my number two choice, followed by WA, then Utah. Scenery plays a large part in my choice.

Mad Hatman The Quran is perfect and always has been for 1500 years. If you read it you will find your scientific answers. One verse talks about the Big Bang "doesn't the disbelievers see that the Heavens and the Earth was joined together and we clove them asunder" this was said 1500 years ago. "The universe is expanding" also told in the Quran. Please read it don't just assume things. ;)
Mad Hatman you was attacking. You said my book is just as bad as the bible. We don't believe everything in the bible. We believe in few statements that's correct with the Quran. The bible said earth is flat however the Quran doesn't state that, rather it states that the earth is spherical like a shape of an ostrich egg. And that was said 1500 yrs ago and now science has discovered that it is not actually round rather spherical. Our prophet noted that down on the Quran while he was in a desert middle of nowhere no technology. Because God spoke to him through angel jibrael because when Moses asked god to reveal himself god said you won't comprehend what your mind will see so rather god told him I will show a glimpse of myself to the mountain and the mountain came crushing down. So that is why we're are not ready to see him but he is near with his knowledge. And soon we will all return to him.

@@ChrisTempel it's not about hating or negativity. this is just camping. surviving the wild is getting everything from nature and not bringing all the things from the city. Only spoiled peoples can call this surviving, BECAUSE YOU FROM THE CITY, being in the forest, is called surviving.. lol...If you call this surviving the wild, how will you call africans bushmen? they don't even know about flint, they don't know what is parachute cord, they don't have 4 knives with a revolver, they use a stone to cut wood, not a saw, they don't feed their dog with pedigree, but they hunt, they look at the sun position for GPS... I sat behind my screen because i missed the wild. am african and very far from my continent.....the video is good but not surviving

His own water too, if we aren't going near rivers/lakes. (just a tip)
I'm not sure many people come to realize they are lost in the middle of the afternoon, though. Most would try to find their way, and keep trying until it's dusk.
Have you ever tried praying for a burning bush? Could save on calories...

I liked this. It was honest and genuine based on your experience. Some did not understand the squirrel comment. I would guess you are an Adventist maybe. It is always pleasant to leave the world of man behind awhile and enter the solitude of God's sanctuary.I have found that this is a Great way to be still and Know that the Father is with us. Great video. I was glad to see you was praying and reading your Bible takes guts to put that out there nowadays and I commend you for that. I take my Bible with me in my pack too, I think God is the most important "piece of kit" a person can take with them anywhere. I made a point to memorize Joshua 1:9 Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Definitely helps keep the mind clear knowing He's watching out for you even in the middle of nowhere.
Honest question, why would you take a Bible in your survival kit over something useful like an SAS survival guide? What do you do with it?
love your videos. I am a country boy from the dominican republic and came to the U.S. when I was seven years old. We use to go into the woods on the weekends my friends and I and had a blast. It is quite vivid in my my mind. Love it. great job. Also nice that you are close to the lord # 1 :)
I'm a staunch atheist and I used to be Seventh Day Adventist. I can tell you that squirrels are not considered clean meat. I'm sorry for the people who are hating on you for talking about your bible. From a former PK, keep up the good work!

You had enough paracord you could make a bow, use the bow (cord twisted one time around the stick) to work the 2 stick method, holding the top of the vertical stick with a small stone (might have to notch out a hole to keep things in place in the stone) You can not only do it faster, but much longer as well. (without rubbing blisters)

Surviving the wild? No. With a cell phone, gps, three knives, saw and a gun you are not surviving. You are camping.

Unless he put on the title "surviving the wild with primitive technology". Your life is now at survival mode. Survival of the fittest. All of us is in survival.

One thing bothers me.. You simulate this scenario in a way that a hiker knows they are lost very early on - which means they would really use time to find their way back. Normally hikers realize they are lost when its too late and almost dark, which means going back isn't an option.
+Miklas Kuoppala first time i was lost was for 2 1/2 days lol toke a left instead of a right... fucking dumb move... called my mother and was like yeah i am lost (carrying all my hiking gear just in case of this) said spending the night i guess woke up got even more lost till i found a logging road with a trucker who nicely enough drove me home and told me where i was, 25.7km off my suppose to be trail/hike lol

Cool tip! Sometimes I do carry some dill or salt/pepper, just depends on the outing. I think that mistakes are an important part of the learning process, so it's important to show them.

You can make quick release versions of those paracord bracelets. 15 seconds from bracelet to cordage instead of 5 minutes untying all those knots. Kenton at the ReWild University channel has a great video on how to make them.

Hey El Director I hope you do read this..I just happened upon your site. I tell you..It is amazing how many tards want to try and find something negative to say about this video when you are sharing your point of views and opinions and that is clearly what you stated..."this is your opinions on survival techniques." Anywho thanks for taking the time to share this video I learned a lot. Most of all I appreciated your comments on.."taking the time to practice these techniques." I never thought of throwing myself in a "controlled environment" and see how I do. I realize it doesn't do me any good to have book knowledge, I need to practice my survival techniques and be prepared. And hey any time you put yourself out there for the public be prepared for the tards. LOL Thanks for the video.

When you said hammock, I figured you would have gotten yourself up off the ground. That is a good tip for surviving in the woods...the ground can chill your body really fast. Ferns would never suffice. I would have tried to lay some decent sticks/logs across those large logs to make a bench of sorts to sleep on. Then you can pile up some evergreen branches on top. Hmmmmm unusually quiet for it to be morning in the forest. No birds chirping at all? Those are always the first things that wake me up when I'm out. I'm not buying you spent the night there. ;)

Fun video; well done. One small point: the "flint" that you used to start your fire with is not a flint, it's a ferro rod. Big difference.
nice try on the friction fire attempt. i am pretty good at building them. but always with a bow....never tried with bare hands, but have made with bows made from long grass and improvised materials. good luck in your journeys.
