I could see Mandrakes being APL3, but in fairness the "regular" elves are APL2 like corsairs and hand of the archon. Harlequins are apl3 because in fluff they're ostensibly custodes, absolute best of the best in the galaxy sort of thing
About novitiates: they are insanely survibable. They have a strategic ploy that allows them to heal themselves while using faith points to reroll or upgrade their dice, and another that halves the damage from one attack but not limited to once per TP. You just use these over and over while fighting or getting shot, and the opponent needs to either roll hot or abuse as much piercing as possible in order to actually push enough damage to kill them. Faith points are also fairly easy to farm, so the engine just keeps going. While their weapons are modest-looking and usually excel at chip damage, they can do good bursts if they need to (probably not enough to take down elites, but enough to remove other strong models), and when the nuns don't die their chip damage adds up surprisingly easy. They may not kill elites easily, but are also hard to take down, and with that many bodies playing the mission, they can still outscore their opponent rather effectively.
Since this video I fully read a bunch of the teams which I didn't know, including novitiates. I will 100% have to see how they actually play on the table. I legit don't see how they're beating elites. They can only use 1 faith ability per roll, which means sure they are guarenteed a crit in every attack/defence, but that's still not ludicrous. I'll make someone fight me with them soon!
As long as it was played right against me its per roll though. So if you can survive especially in combat you just heal yourself in your turn then when someone tries to fight you back you just do the same and and heal yourself again. Come out of two combats with more health than you went in and a dead enemy op their turn. It might not be as good against marines but you only need it to work like two times and its probably won you the game. Against other teams it feels impossible to play against especially with all their other stuff especially their flamers.
still hate how they overhauled them by watering down acts of faith, all of their damage dealing and giving survivability for some reason. Enjoyed the previous edition novitiates way more
I didn't add timestamps because I didn't make a point in this video and deliberately set it up as a chilled out chat with the audience as opposed to me giving you information. However, I have put in timestamps for the optics!
I still stick with my theory on how to improve horde teams, you just lean into their spice a little bit and every balance issue isnt resolved but heavily dampened. Give death korp 20 models total, make their weapons 2/5. Pathfinders; make the drones half cost. Striking scorpions 3+ save. We've seen all the strong teams have their theme and aesthetic heavily leaned into with various rules, to awesome effect. A few teams however are still stuck to the 2e killteam standard and I truly feel giving them strong reasons to play them would offset the strength without deminishing the flavor of the various Horde teams. Also make a universal item that is essentially a heal negation effect. Unit affected cant heal, boom ez and useful while fixing the healing meta issue. Edit: Imo if we're comparing teams to see what needs changing in rules we should be comparing the KT 3 teams vs only KT 3 teams as the others will be phased out so we cant know GW's priorities on them vs the new teams
Your latter point will for sure become a power creep video, but it's VERY safe to say right now that there's no edition power creep because Vespids and Aquilons are mid to bottom tier! I agree that leaning into each team's THING is a good idea and should be the way to balance, bring out the narrative. I'm not sure I can fully back 20 models with a 2/5 attack, but it's up to the designers to do the actual balancing! Of course, the further away from the mean you get, the harder things are to balance... still, not our problem!
I was amped for the vespid when I bought the Hivestorm box (my son won't let me have my Aquilons)... then I played them... then I bought the other starter set so I could have an elite team to counter the others I've faced and stomped my son's Aquilons. I love my Death Guard.
@GlassHalfDead hhmm well, I am not a power gamer by any definition. That being said, needing 4s to hit and then a 5 up save is pure garbage and needs tweaking. If power gamers wanna power, I'll oblige them. If no one is playing s tier, I won't and will enjoy the game more.
As someone who has played Inquisition quite a bit I'd prefer if they removed all the requisition options that are from other bespoke boxes. Instead I think it would be far cooler to give them options that actually corresponds better to the different ordos. Scions are already a good general choice for inquisitorial stormtroopers, but having some sort of Deathwatch option for Xenos, Grey Knights for Malleus and Sisters of Battle for Hereticus would feel far more thematic than the current lineup. Why they picked Sisters of Silence over Sisters of Battle is still a mystery to me.
I would love to see the concept of reinforcements in Kill Team. With this mechanic you could design like 6 operative team, but one of them joins begin of TP3 or something like this.
Reinforcements exist in the narrative missions already. But I agree, the idea of delayed models coming on is cool. Oh, actually that's literally the theme of Aquilons. GW has you covered!
My number one team I’ve played is Plague Marines. Very fun and themed. Yes powerful but I love the fluff in the rules. My number one team I want to play is void dancer troupe or void scarred corsairs. I love those teams in last edition. Also I love me an Eldar I am with you on avoiding S tier. I love harlequins, but didn’t play them for most of last edition coz they were very power and most people said they are a bad time to play against and my 1 game with them very much reflected that.
I honestly feel like if you remove the S tier teams and all elite teams, the game is in a great state. Which means that really we just need to tone a few teams down!
I’ve played 10+ games of Wyrmblade, so here’s my review: they have some fun, killy new ploys, but they lost their most important one, “Meticulous Plan”, from last edition (that was the “mission actions for free” for concealed neophytes one). Without that, it feels like they can’t compete for the mission. Using Implant against elites, you can max your Tac Op every game, you’ll score a couple on the Kill Op, and you’ll get stomped on the Crit Op.
I’m the same in regards to tier lists. I don’t like playing the strongest things, I like trying to win with under powered. Feels more rewarding for me. Been that way for me even in TCG’s. Was all mono-earth in final fantasy tcg.
Ha, yes, I take tier lists as being just for fun and not something to take seriously BUT ALSO something to take as the word of god so I don't play an S tier faction xD
I still haven’t played my Kroot this edition. I’m scared because they struggled to kill models last edition. And this edition put the Kill back in Killteam.

Drakemen! How are you finding them into elites? Pulled out any wins? If so, how? I find them great into Phobos, and as those were some of my early games, it has skewed my view of phobos and mandrakes, perhaps!
@ Hey dude 🙏 This edition I’ve managed to beat Phobos and AoD Lost by a point to nemesis claw, and a draw vs plague(but we only got half way thru and were neck n neck so just called it a draw-so doesn’t really count.) Looking forward to finishing my hivestorm box. Thank you for your take on the box teams. The tierlists made them seem pretty irrelevant. Glad to hear people still enjoying playing them
They're weird teams, both one trick ponies, and if the opponent knows what you're going to do, then you don't have the resilience to do anything else. And, you know, turns out the two best teams in the game both ignore piercing 1, so although Vespid will always be swingy due to their 4+ hit, they are currently being hard countered, basically. One day!
Despite taking Blades of Khaine, I played Kasrkin the most this edition. The problem is that Plasmaguns are pretty bad now, and you take 2 of them, so you actually don't hit that hard. Your offensive buffs are basically just Balanced and a Purity Seal (their access to Severe is garbage, you have to give up +1" move and it only affects Ready enemies). The team has no tricks or identity, besides the Strat Ploy Dash, and they just don't have the muscle to kill Marines.
Yeah, I can't lie, their team has been decimated this edition. I really didn't like elite points, they felt terrible, but their new orders are pretty dull. Which, you know, isn't the worst, we need a "basic" team that people can learn the game with (that aren't just marines, not everyone loves marines) and Kasrkin are great for that right now
I've only had the chance to play 3 games so far, Vespid were fun and i completely screwed up with my Exaction Squad but i want to play more with both. And try out a few more teams too.
I might try and do a bit more with vespid and aquilons, I think the Hivestorm teams are good but not very beginner friendly as they both have very skewed rules
if you wanted clicks, the ol' "heres why your team is bad" works a treat i too like the D tier teams. they tend to be more fun, especially if your opponent also plays lower tier
Oh sure, I could just lie in the title, but I really try my best to not clickbait! Of course this means I'll now have to make a video where I talk about why your team sucks. Remoe the S tier and all the elites and honestly the game is pretty great!
I just love scouts. They're really fun. I'll continue playing them until they are good, am good or I get bored. I also play Nemesis Claw and Kommandos since 2nd edition. I just found them very fun teams to play.
As you say, it seems they're in a great place for flavour, they just need to... make about two dozen changes of lowering numbers by 1 or 2 and they'll be sweet.
I've read their rules and can definitely see how they're tough for a lot of teams to handle. I'm still not really understanding how they're handling elites, but clearly they are!
The nice thing about the Corsair is that you have different roles against different teams. Against teams with low wounds you swoop in and hit them like a truck with your power sword, against strong melee teams you just keep running away and taking shots of opportunity.
@BlommaBaumbart Is this from personal experience or something you've seen in other people's games? I've been learning with the starter set and hive storm. All teams I've enjoyed playing but they all seem to sort of stick to only one game plan.
@@jobiy1999 This is from personal experience but mostly in 2nd edition. I don't find they have changed much, though. As for current edition: Killing the Death Korps Watchmaster by throwing a parrot into his face is a special kind of satisfying.
What a coincidence, just today I talked about how I have no main team. I play 8 teams (with Legionary models and Fellgor doubling as Warp Coven) and play them all equally. Usually I let my opponent pick both teams for the matchup. I always had a special sympathy for the Corsair, Warp Coven and Fellgor, but despite being apparently stronger this edition, the Warp Coven seems less appealing now as it seems to have lost many of its fun tricks. I especially miss Capricious Plan.
I think GW has packed most of the teams with flavour this edition, for sure. I'm not sure they remembered to then go back over those teams and actually balance them though :/
I like starstriders, it is exactly that team where you need to come up with something every time, and mostly you have the tools to do so, but against a good oponent, it is very hard. I think some talk could be also about the competitiveness of the game. Because there is a lot of talk about tier-lists and OP teams and balancing etc. ( sure if the game was well balanced, you wouldnt have to consider it at any point ) But ultimately it is about the players and your group - are you playing for fun - picking teams that are at a similar level to have an even game, or are other players competitive and just playing to win the most. Everybody likes to win, not everyone is able to lose and have fun. What are people expecting from kill team. casual wargame or are your games just training for tournaments. Recently played against WP and it wasn't fun, cant outshoot them, cant fight them, cant hide because of seek etc...
I play Intercession->Angels because that's what I had models painted for. I have since painted Exaction (I am building a full Agents army for 40K) and hope to get some games in with them soon. I like the way they seem to play similarly in KT and 40K (tie up the opponent in melee with Subductors and make their life miserable). Also have Phobos built but not painted.
You see, Agents are too big brain for me. Too much going on! That's why I don't have much interest. I just REALLY hope that their auxiliary teams get buffs and they get nerfs. SO FAR gw hasn't proven they are capable of balancing out these 5 teams :/
I think they only nerf they really need to do to Chaos elite teams (to start) is just give them back their old HP of 12 and 13. Start there and then lets see how things go from there.
Not playing yet, still modelling/painting. Doesn't help my regular opponents are over 1000km away either. But am building Plague Marines (as I have the Heroes boxes), Exaction squad (the thin black line of the Emperor), Archon (as came with Arbites) and Legionary. Then will do an Angels of Death (Deathwatch) team. Oh, and Starstriders, Inquisitorial and Blooded (using my Blackstone Fortress figures). Then will see what else I can build out of my miscellaneous collection. My favourite 40K factions are probably Adeptus Arbites and Rogue Traders.
Started with Death Korps and I got stomped by my friend (who also started with me) with Warp Coven. Suffice it to say, we both agreed to only only play S tier units if the opponent is playing at minimum an A tier team. Otherwise, thematically, I enjoy the Death Korp, Breachers and Heirotek.
Ive played about three or four matches per week with a mate since release. Didnt know i was a pro! Ive played several teams a couple times each but i really dont feel like thats enough to make a call on them as teams. Theres so much that can swing how a team feels for good or for bad thats out of your control, like dice and the opponent most notably lol
I'll be playing first game on Monday with Nemesis Claw. Literally have no idea how game works, and will be playing against Harlequin (I assume they are team for skilled veterans) that already won few games. So... yeah. My combo will be Leader with Bolt Pistol + Fist, 4 NL branded specialists and Missile Launcher guy. I do own few other teams, I think Gellerpox are one of more fun ones!
I wanted to main Yeagers this edition, unfortunately every game I've played has been into Legionary, Warp Coven and Angels....so I'm painting up my Plaque Marines for until things change. I already shelved my Felgore due to all the hate...
So, I'm anti all reiver phobos as a concept, because phobos are the shooting marines, right? But honestly, when you realise the warriors all become APL4... it's not that crazy!
New to Kill Team. I searched so I think I know the answer but I can't believe it so I'm going to ask here. Is there a Tyranid Kill Team set for sale? They seem like a popular faction with players and they feature heavily in recent lore so I thought for sure they'd have a set.
@@MidnightHozz it is absolutely insane, but no gw doesn't have a Tyranid kill team. We all agree it's mad. Your best bet if to proxy Tyranids as another team :(
@@GlassHalfDead Appreciate the response. My grandson collects Pokemon and I am trying to move him to something a little...meatier. I am very keen on the setting/lore/IP, but have never played any tabletop 40K. We went over all of the major factions and he liked the Tyranids the most.
Hey Andy, torn between Hearthkyn and Scouts as my favs. used to be Vet gaurd but no overcharge lasguns and take aim change kinda ruined them for me. I would love to see marines become 5 operatives, maybe 1-2 more wounds in exchange
Kasrkins ploys and skill at arms need to be reworked/buffed the data sheets are mostly fine. They feel bad because the skill at arms and the ploys are to situational to be useful and the timing on sieze the initiative means you waste alot of cp using it.
Greetings for greece ! Thank you for your content , especially your short videos testing our knowledge on the rules . I am currently playing with kommandos. I love angels of death ( imperial fists ) And I want to play Vespids Plague Marines Kroot
I've had 21 games of 3rd edition so far. But I am also a degenerate with time on my hand and I (and my group) have prepped for and played one tournament so far.
My number 1 team I like and want to be playing is Warp Coven, so I'd love for them to be brought back in line with balance so my opponents can stop crying blood whenever we play.
If you dropped all the Marine-based KTs from 6 to 5 models (which would probably make a large majority of competitive players riot LOL) AND basically restrict who/what the Inquisitorial Agents can take as support (maybe reduce the number, like you could take more Vet Guard {sorry never going to call then just Death Korps...} than you could take Kasrkin? Or ONLY be allow to take specific support models like basic Troopers?) this would (IMNSHO) go a long way towards balancing the game again. The biggest problem, in my eyes, as to WHY this version still needs balancing again was the change from 6 to 3 objective markers AND the ways (like Kill Ops) that you can rack up VPs while not actually having to complete the Mission now. As for my KTs, the majority of the things on my workbench are old OOP metal (w/ a few plastic) Citadel 40K models that are being kitbashed (mainly minor equipment, rebasing, larger bases, and base height spacers) to turn them into "valid" KT24/3.0 models to use, including: Scout Squad, Kasrkin, and Blades of Khaine -- all of which kind of (unfortunately) suck in the meta current because of the problems with the elites mentioned above.
Surprised to see Wyrmblade up there but pleasantly so as I am finishing off some extra icon bearer and warriors with shotguns. Hoping to get some games with them this weekend with my friend and next weekend at the LGS as there will be a learn and play event. Not happy about the Hunter Clade situation. Hope they fix it before the team gets retired.
I'm loving playing Vespids even though they're so low on the list. Stacking all of the buffs and the movement shenanigans they can do with fly feels so fun! I also think Legionaries are a bit too high on the list, I've played a few games as them and they don't feel that strong to be almost the be all end all.
Specifically with Vespid, how on earth do you beat Legionary though? With every Vespid gun having Penetration, and Nurgle turning that off... Seems harsh!
Playing: Legionaries (got then 80% painted just before the new edition landed, so i could take them on my hols - don't worry I'm terrible at them), Desiring: finally to build paint play Wyrmblade.
I’ve played kasrkin and they are great. The only reason they are not doing well, is because they are just better as inquisition. I think inquisition should be locked to scions & sisters of silence. Job done
I play Nemesis claw and Legionary Night Lords, from a miniature perspective the legionaries and claw have models that are similar enough. Gonna miss the Kommandos when they rotate out.. thank God for casual gaming tho.
No.1 team, Gellerpox! Until Hive Storm, obviously. I still play them in KT21 occasionally. KT24 it's short kings all the way, got my Yaegirs and I'm building Salvagers.
no matter what I do, I can't win with kommandos. Any other team i have, i can win somehow. i know i'm supposed to play objective and not kill op with kommando but holy fuck. i just get murdered.
Accurate 2 hello! I like Nemesis Claw & Necrons. I recently got into a gaming club & play 1-2 games about once a week. I’ve been utterly trounced by Warpcoven & Legionaries. So I know how OP they are. I’ve dipped my toe into Corsairs & Salvagers. They are interesting & are very different playstyles.

I grieve the loss of Elite Points, I loved that rule.
I might try and do a bit more with vespid and aquilons, I think the Hivestorm teams are good but not very beginner friendly as they both have very skewed rules
if you wanted clicks, the ol' "heres why your team is bad" works a treat
i too like the D tier teams. they tend to be more fun, especially if your opponent also plays lower tier
Oh well we know for sure scouts are getting buffed in some way, so learn them now and soon you'll be unstoppable!
Finally, my Warpcoven are fun to play. I hope they will be nerfed without robbing their strong psy attacks and then I will proudly stick with them
As you say, it seems they're in a great place for flavour, they just need to... make about two dozen changes of lowering numbers by 1 or 2 and they'll be sweet.
@@GlassHalfDead they have also to many tools to deny their opponent shooting back. That's not necessary for such a durable team.
I have a theory that chaos cultist are a sleeping giant. The mutate/heal mechanic is a big opportunity
So far, all the teams with heals are top tier, so maybe you're right!
Angels of Death. The classic boys. I love it. Right now they’re strong and thematic and fun.
Perfect video to listen to while painting. Cool
Exactly what I was shooting for. I'm a glorified solo podcast on a ramble!
Damn that double hello was so wholesome
Wholesome AF as foretold
I love Kasrkin. Lore wise and aesthetics. I really want to main them.
Do it! They'll for sure be buffed "soon"!
I've only played a few games but novitiates seemed really strong from my 1 game against them. They just didn't want to die.
I've read their rules and can definitely see how they're tough for a lot of teams to handle. I'm still not really understanding how they're handling elites, but clearly they are!
I really like the aesthetic of aeldari corsairs. But I also have never seen how they work IRL.
@@BlommaBaumbart I could see myself getting them just for the parrot honestly
@@jobiy1999 Get some nice bright colours for it too. Box art always paints it as a hawk or something. Which is cool, just not the same kind of cool.
I didn' had the opportunity to play Dark Eldar in KT24, but they where my main team in KT21. I love shooting.
I really need to grind out a bunch of games with shooting only teams. I just don't know how to handle melee teams on volkus when I can't melee them.
@@GlassHalfDead finally the 1 AP fall back comes into play :D
What a coincidence, just today I talked about how I have no main team. I play 8 teams (with Legionary models and Fellgor doubling as Warp Coven) and play them all equally. Usually I let my opponent pick both teams for the matchup.
I always had a special sympathy for the Corsair, Warp Coven and Fellgor, but despite being apparently stronger this edition, the Warp Coven seems less appealing now as it seems to have lost many of its fun tricks. I especially miss Capricious Plan.
Excited to get games in with my Blooded before they get retired but also... the Plague Marines have so much flavor and incredible models
Warp Coven is my number one team. I wish I could play BoK though
My out of the box idea on how to nerf marines, just give plasma piercing 2 on overcharge again
Then teams have the tools to deal with marines again
Brood brothers is my number 1, it's basically amped up krieg (my second favorite) with 3 play styles!
@@mikeymidnite7685 for me 4 games is the number I'd need to say I know the team. Not a pro at them of course, but I'll know their shenanigans by then
Genuinely love the way Vespid work. Could just do with a boost to communion points, and maybe a nerf to other teams abilities that negate piercing.
So far I've played Mandrakes, Pathfinders and DKoK (or at least my Pretorian proxies for DKoK). Tonight I'll play either Void Dancers or Novis.
I already shelved my Felgore due to all the hate...
my favourite is phobos all reiver as its low on brain power lol
So, I'm anti all reiver phobos as a concept, because phobos are the shooting marines, right? But honestly, when you realise the warriors all become APL4... it's not that crazy!
@@GlassHalfDead i try take 1 or 2 ranged reivers for a little range, but reivers have such a bad rep in 40k people scoff at them in KT
Man, killteam right now is just broken. Im gonna take this break to get really into Infinity... Ive done 6 teaching games so far and its amazing!
What about hydration? Which team is best there?
Kasrkins ploys and skill at arms need to be reworked/buffed the data sheets are mostly fine. They feel bad because the skill at arms and the ploys are to situational to be useful and the timing on sieze the initiative means you waste alot of cp using it.
Greetings for greece !
Thank you for your content , especially your short videos testing our knowledge on the rules .
I am currently playing with kommandos.
I love angels of death ( imperial fists )
And I want to play
Vespids
Plague Marines
Kroot
Kasrkin
Surprised to see Wyrmblade up there but pleasantly so as I am finishing off some extra icon bearer and warriors with shotguns. Hoping to get some games with them this weekend with my friend and next weekend at the LGS as there will be a learn and play event. Not happy about the Hunter Clade situation. Hope they fix it before the team gets retired.
The Nemesis Claw are the new mains. Need to get better at painting tho
40 minutes and all I got out of it is that you like looking at the D's.... in tier list of course 🤣
In the tier list... yes, right, of course!
Nooo I like the intro
I’ve played kasrkin and they are great. The only reason they are not doing well, is because they are just better as inquisition.
I think inquisition should be locked to scions & sisters of silence. Job done
Love the hipster - i hate S tier thing, totally the same for me :D
Brood brothers I play and love. Lore horde everything 🤘👌👍🤙
Nice video, thanks dude
I play Nemesis claw and Legionary Night Lords, from a miniature perspective the legionaries and claw have models that are similar enough. Gonna miss the Kommandos when they rotate out.. thank God for casual gaming tho.
I’m playing Brood Brothers! I was between them and Wyrmblade but I like the Brood’s vibe more🤔
I am having a blast with hierotek circle. But imma give my ork Bois a try soon!
No.1 team, Gellerpox! Until Hive Storm, obviously. I still play them in KT21 occasionally. KT24 it's short kings all the way, got my Yaegirs and I'm building Salvagers.
I also don't like playing top teams. I avoid top tiers in everything I play, video games included. I want to know I've earned my wins haha
If you have 10 games your one of the top.
Me with 20.
Before watching the vid ima say I play yager, salvagers, and heirotech
How much of the meta is ignored by GW due to the Classified system? After a year they don't have to worry about them (ie legionaries).
not playing anything right now. waiting to see new teams. and I don't want to invest in any year 1 teams.
As a totaly new player, looking for more info on solo and coop mode
Main kasrkin right now, want to switch to Corsairs as soon as i finish painting them
Kinband is my accidental main I think AOD should be five mins but can take heavy gunner and sniper
Add a comment...
I only have Phobos, Angel's and Warpcoven. Enjoy and prefer Warpcoven KT.
Exaction Squad or Kasrkin is my go to now. I don't own Inquisitorial Agents tho lol
no matter what I do, I can't win with kommandos. Any other team i have, i can win somehow. i know i'm supposed to play objective and not kill op with kommando but holy fuck. i just get murdered.
I like Dwarves, I play as Dwarves.
Playing Nemesis Claw, want to play Talons
Annoyingly I’m a marine fan boy and yes they are broken. However I guarantee they’ll be nurffed before my first tournament
Been playing plague Marines and kroot.
⚪️Hello
Necrons way to strong too
Accurate 2 hello!
Maybe too many human teams?
