    Amazing. Wonderful, very helpful review. Generally avoided Indian whiskeys though I knew there were many adventurous distillers in and around Bangalore. This brand I must try. Thank you once again for great review.

    It's funny how most Indians don't value Paul John (which costs only around 3300 Indian rupees, equivalent to $40). They'd rather buy Glenfiddich 12 (it is expensive here in India as it costs $85). I tried them both, Paul John offers more money for value.

    I love seeing pictures of the stills! Whenever I'm trying a new malt, I always look up photos of the stills from that distillery. That would be a great marketing feature, to have still shape on the bottle and point out what the shape does to flavor!

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  6 років тому

      Funny you mention that... there are a TON of bottles that base their shape off of the shape of a still. Check out Glen Moray.

    I remember seeing a PaulJohn offering at Costco but decided it was too much money at the time (I still have a lot of Scotch to try). But after this review I'd be a lot more inclined to try it. Thank you.

    Got this last month and after getting some air in the bottle and letting it settle down for a while it has interesting and unique flavors. Fun to try malt whisky from places other than Scotland picked up a Kavlan distillery select and a Nikka Coffey Malt as well, the Nikka is outstanding. Cheers

    I enjoy watching your reviews ... I have tried Paul John Brilliance as well as Select Peated ... both are awesome, completely different flavor profiles and cannot be compared .. but I loved Select Peated more ! These Whiskys are more expensive & hard to find in India than the US :)

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  6 років тому

      That's crazy to hear. Any other Indian whiskys that you suggest?

    • @amitgidh
      @amitgidh 6 років тому +2

      Yes, I would recommend Amrut Fusion! BTW - Except for Amrut, Paul John & Rampur - most of the Indian Whiskies are a blend of molasses based neutral spirits (which is Rum) + some % of scotch, malt & grain whiskies ... some cheaper ones may also add flavor & color to make it taste like Whisky :) ... so if you want to be adventurous, then you can try "Blenders Pride Reserve", "McDowells Signature" & "Rockford Reserve" ... I tried couple of these while in India & they are OK to Good :) Again, these cannot be compared with Amrut or Paul John but are still best of the 'local lot' .... BTW - I had picked up Paul John Brilliance from DC Costco a cpl weeks back and I got it only for $36 + taxes ... Paul John Classic Select was $ 65 + taxes but I didn't buy that and it sold out fast!

    • @JasonWhiskyWise
      @JasonWhiskyWise 6 років тому

      The Select Peated is great which has a harmonious balance of peat and rounded characters and so is the Classic Select Cask. Both offering rich textures and jam packed with flavour. However I find the Classic my favourite as its just so creamy for a Indian whisky. If you like peat then try the Paul John Bold!

    • @amitgidh

    The Peat now used in Paul John is actually sourced in India and not Scotland, it specifically comes from the regions of Rajasthan, Jammu, Tamil Nadu & Assam...just to take note

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  6 років тому

      That's surprising. I would think that it would be the other way around.

    • @foodquig
      @foodquig 6 років тому

      It depends where you are, I guess. The maddening thing is one store will have one expression of a single malt. Another store will have another expression, and yet another store will have a dusty bottle of another expression of malt from the same distillery... I have been pretty lucky in finding different expressions of Amrut just by hunting around. If I saw the Brilliance I would grab it on the spot because the search among forty or so stores in the area so far has given me no brilliance! Then a store that I haven't been to for a while (I typically shop at one or two a week and want to bring my purchases under control and down to a bottle a week) will get a few bottles in, and it sells out before I get there again. Wasn't it you who had a merry chase looking for J&B not that long ago?

    I think the only 2 whiskey's worthy enough to be tried are Paul John and Amrut. We got Rampur recently and that's pretty horrible.
    Apart from that, 99% of whiskey made in India are molasses (sugarcane) based. Tends more towards rum actually. Which is why we aren't allowed to brand and sell them as Whiskey outside of India.
