My 2006 Chevy 6.0 2500hd has 265,000 miles on it still running strong. no rust the paint is ok, tailgate bezel is still there. biggest problem I had with this truck was a oil pump pickup tube. I replaced that and the oil pump, Its still running like a champ even though it ran with low oil pressure for years. The 6.0 was built like a rock.
Just bought my 04 and it’s got no rust. It was never driven in winter and it’s been a beast. Definitely a gas hog but dead reliable. Put 10k on it so far. 180,000 now. Good buy for 5k

just picked up an '05 with a Fisher plow for 8 grand. This is my third pickup in 60 years of owning g pickups. Need to keep coolant topped off or the heater core doesn't get flow and you get no heat. With the Fisher plow, always turn off the power so that an inadvertent touch of the joystick won't have you dripping the plow while cruising. Body is still good but frame has some corrosion from northeast road salt in winter.
I have exactly the same truck but it is 2005 same color with 319,000 miles on it and still going strong, I used it when I was working in construction here in Los Angeles and now I have been towing my boat no big issues yet.

My 2005 silverado's only issue is the air conditioner has been replaced twice both times GM did it under warranty with less than 50k on it at the time. The truck only has 76k on it now and the air conditioner leaks still and has to be charged now and then. No rust I live in the south.
I just got a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 321000 miles for $2000 zero rust runs and drives really good I was surprised at how great it is. Doesn’t tick or rattle on cold start or nothing motor sounds great
@@austinpurdy4970 Just picked up a 99 2500 4x4 6.0 with 205k. It sat for seven years, got it running, runs perfect. Oh and I bought it for $1800 through a friend of my girlfriend. No rust and it’s clean af, just looked ugly because it was under a tree, two full days of work cleaning out the spiders, leaves and pine needles it looks like a jem! Paint is perfect. Needs a a couple ball joints and a tie rod, and a tailgate, but still drives great. Has true dual 3” exhaust with two chamber mufflers dumped before the axle, sounds awesome
I love the GMT800, I own a Suburban(would love a Duraburb). Many people love the cateye. I actually prefer the round eye look. I will likely find a cateye and convert it to the round eye style front clip.
I have an 04 Yukon 5.3 with 300,000 miles that still runs and pulls a trailer like the day it rolled off the line. There is a reason the LS platform is so popular. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I used to own a used 2006 2500 Chevy Silverado extended cab. I really liked how it handled in bad winter weather up here in Canada. It rusted out on me and I eventually gave it away 2020.
Have an 06 Sierra 2500HD 6.0 with 256k. Replaced the MAF, TAC, CTS and a few other things and she’s still running strong. A bit rusty of course but that doesn’t effect starting up and stopping every day! Just recent;y started going in “reduced power mode” but it’s probably something easy to fix like all the other things. All in all a great truck aside from the exhaust manifolds of course.
Our ranch has a farm truck with a 6.0 its a 2500 we had the trans rebuilt some 4 yrs ago we use it for burning, the gauges do not work most of the time no odo, nothing. She"s a tough old girl though. With 160000 or 170000 miles don't know though. its a 2003 vinyal WT.
she? I understand you are heterosexual but how can a truck (a work horse a work machine) be a she? It's genderless if it did have to be a gender it would be male.
My 1500 was at 345k and it was still good but I wanted a 6.2 so I swapped it with a completely refurbished one and a 80e, it has no rust and I don’t see myself selling it any time soon
Good video im looking at a truck like this one in a few days. 2004, 2500HD with 230,000 miles they're asking is 8,000. From the carfax looks like its been in CA the whole time. With 2 owners. I definitely going to be for the things you mentioned.
I have an 05 220,000 mile Z71. I don’t think it was very taken care of before I got it. Rust is bad, driver rocker is near gone. A/C did not work, it was stuck on defrost blowers only, cam went out within 2,000 miles of me owning it. (I’ve only owned it for 3k miles) brake line busted, which I hear is common. And, idk if anyone else has this issue, but my ABS and Brake light keeps coming on. Everything seems to work. But other than that. It’s a decent running truck. Can’t kill the 5.3 “knock on wood”
I just got a 99 new body GMC Sierra 2500 6.0 with almost 200k it’s black with black interior n the body n frame are perfect N the motor n trans run like new the only thing is the tail pipe fell off now so now I’m gonna get a custom exhaust
Haha this is great. Have a 2004, 154k miles. Only minor issues that you mentioned. Had to buy the bezel recently. Same ticking on mine. Exhaust manifold leak. Door switches.
Love these trucks!! My 06 1500 HD crew cab still runs strong.. no rust issues as I live in AZ .. Paid 24 K brand new and just cant afford a new one with 2 college students
I have a 2002 HD 6.0 4L80 that truck is a champ plowed like nothing ive ever plowed with! And before drive by cable vs wire its much faster thsn one would think! Interior has stood up its loaded. Mpg honestly it needs super it helps alot! Ive pulled mini excavator’s skid steers cars etc never a problem. In 01 02 have a different cluster so has no issues! Rust is a pain but oil and fluid film help them a great deal . I got a newer 6.0 3013 love it ! But those early years were just the shit!
A note about 2000 era design, I own a 02 Buick with similar rain issues on the driver side controls for windows and also a 2013 f250 that literally dumps water into the cab. I occasionally drive a an 05 explorer that sends windshield washer fluid into my dashboard too.
Just bought 05 2500 with 85k miles 0 rust. I paid up for it, but I know it will out live this new junk for tenth of the price. Took me a while to find a cherry older 2500 but they are still out there.
I got a 2001 2500HD love my truck. It's a tough old girl. Only issues I have had is the Exhaust manifolds, water pump leak, and after 190k miles the power steering pump finally gave up the ghost. Other then that she's been sweet.
My o5 is awsome but I don’t get tickets cuz I’m gentle on the pedal just let it roll. Strongest towing truck I’ve ever driven. They really are designed to tow bull dozers!
The gmt800s are pretty reliable I own a 05 tahoe with the original engine and original 4l60e with over 300,000 miles on it and it has towed way more than what the legal towing limit is I tow 9,000 pounds with it and all I did was just change fluids and put it into 3 when towing as gm instructs with the generation before the gmt800
I have a 2015 4x4 crew cab LT 6.0. 220,000 miles. Runs great. Been well maintained and taken care of. Service stabilitrac light comes on, goes off. Check airbag light stays on. Had issues with right side high beam headlight burning out. Two shops worked on it & got nowhere. Finally a third got it right. No leaks. No major repairs to date. I no longer need a 3/4 ton. However the things paid for. I expect many more miles. Reliable.
Just bought a 99 silverado 2500 for $2000 CDN with a 6.0l and 319k km. Just needed a front wheel bearing, drives great, extended cab with 8 foot bed. Wanted to flip it, but after driving it and using it to move, I fell in love
The transfer cases on these often have a pinhole leak, worn from the inside. Your oil leaks out slowly and only when you are driving. I found that out the hard way and was left stranded.
I had that issue it comes from the internal pump rub it's a pin hole on the outside but the size of a dime on the inside about to blow out any day. That was my only issue I had with my 2003 chevy great truck.
🤔 Pennsylvania...salted roads. Rust issues expected. I live in Georgia and my 2003 GMC 2500HD (bought it new) is solid as a rock! 272,000 miles. I did replace the cluster few years ago.
Mine hit 250k only parts that broke was o2 sensors and oil sending unit the truck got wrecked at 220k and the guy drove it home with no fluids burned the trans up did a swap with a 4l80e with 300k miles and a 1800 stall torque converter and still going on strong
Glad we don't have to worry about rust in louisiana. I had a Ford taures from Iowa and brought it to louisiana and its still going but when you hit a puddle water comes in thru the floorboards lmao
I love all chevy products they are reliable they are there when you need them we have 2 Chevys one is 2011 avalanche LTZ with 150,000 miles and a 2013 2500 HD z71 silverado 6.0 regular cap with around 113,000 miles we really love them and btw, i am from Saudi Arabia and here it's not like the US GM and chevy is in the top then ford so, you see tahoe, silverados and GMC Yukon, sierra allot in towns much more than the Toyota land cruiser 🤣👍 good luck and have a nice day for this great video
Any chevrolet or gmc full size is a good buy as long as you believe it's the right truck the 6.0 litre in these 3/4 ton units is by far the most reliable and durable engine of any US or overseas brand...and if you can do better go get it good video
I just bought a 2000 2500 6.0 with 244k miles 4x4 for 2k dollars cash. Runs really good. Body isn’t bad some dents interior isn’t bad leaks oil. I think i got a good damn deal
Great review buddy! Really thorough and to the point. Not biased, talk clearly, and even included how it drove. I have an 04 2500hd 6.0 myself, and I can say the dash cluster lights are a total pain lol. Again loved the review, really hope to see some more from you :)
Blower fan and EVAP sensor or whatever, had an 06 Chevy 1500 brand new to 240,000 miles and counting and an 06 GMC Sierra 2500hd 125,000 miles and counting and he nailed it and can say both mechanically we're reliable and work horses.
I would say anyone looking at a 1st gen silverado with a 6.0 and its in good shape buy it. Not not a fast truck but they are great. The do have issues but i love them. You could get a duramax, cummins, or powestroke but the are 3x more to fix. Throw a turbo on a 6.0 and ypu can make that power easy.
Also just to be honest I dont really tow. More so will be picking up stuff from lowes and I do need to tow a trailer with a motorcylce from NC to PA and honestly just want a truck so I dont need to rely on anyone for one myself.
I just picked up a super clean 2004 Silverado 2500 6.0 crew cab RWD that’s 100% rust free and only 141k miles for $8700. I sold my 22 F150 crew cab Ecoboost a few months ago and decided I didn’t want a newer vehicle with expensive payments anymore.
Just bought 1 and while driving back home check engine came on. Scanned it and vacuum leak and Bank 1 and bank 2 lower 02 sensors are going bad. 117k miles and spent 11k on it. Guess I got sucker.
When he says price a bug flew by camera so close that it made me think it was real and landing on me. I replayed it and still jumped lmao not ready for late spring/ summer bugs yet. Lol
I have the same truck minus the hd, and I'm having problems with an intermittent shift I have the 4L80E transmission, after a long run I come to a red light let's just say after I get off the interstate and I get a super hard shift. I can pull over and turn the truck off for just a few minutes and be on my way shifting fine again any help would be appreciated
I have a 05 gmc 6.0 hd an frame an body and worse part front diff mounts are about gone an i have also a 05 1500 4*4 gmc an body is getting a little rusty but frame is rust free,,, both trucks same gmc sierra,,both same month an yr make,,both black,,, but 1rusty 1not the 1500 has the super short bed 5ft 6. Kinda funny really,im goin take a look at the plant manufacturerd at,wonder if that a issue,,,the first thing that quite working was the transmission temp gauge on my hd,,,u really liked that an i miss it. Wanna make your high dollar automatic transmission to last a good long time get a transmission temp gauge . My fix is goin to be a piller gauge an put water temp gauge in pan,,,my understanding the problem lies in valve body unit temp sensor,,,not cheap but definitely not worth tearing into a perfect working 4l80
My grandpa has had a 2500 single cab gmc Sierra with the 6.0 he has had it at least 5 years prob more I started learning how to drive in it. And this truck has been beat to shit my grandpa is hard on his trucks it has big ads dents in the doors scratches has hit water gaps to hard been joy ride got muddy and only prob u remember it having is the blower motor went out tho I dont believe he got it Completely stock
that tick from the motor isnt exhaust bolts, its piston slap...there is a TSB for it. Goes away some what when engine gets hot...my 4L80 went out at 91k.. meh.
One of my buddys got an 03 2500 6.0 gasser and it feels way to slow it's on 35s but it will barely even spin tires on gravel there is no reduced power or engine light on does anyone have any ideas why it just feels like it has no power
If it seems like it's running fine otherwise I'd try a new gas pedal/sensor. I've seen them go out pretty frequently and it will seem like the truck is down on power, only takes about 5 minutes to switch out.
35's on a stock gas powered truck would make it a dog. Those trucks had 30.5 inch tires stock. You need to change your axle ratios to 4.56's to get back your performance.
Lucky. I just paid $16k for an SLE with 125k miles but I've been looking for months and that was the best deal I could find with those miles and the condition it was in
What do you think is the best used truck option?
Anything ford
Toyota, Chevy and then ford.
Ford is last place. Hard to fix and tons or problems. I have a 07 5.4 F250. Engine has plenty of problems at 70k miles.

Its almost impossible to find rust free here unfortunately.
TopLineRacer that’s terrible. Is it from the salting of the roads? So many classic and timeless designs horrible to see them ate up with cancer.
Come up to Ohio and all you see are rust buckets
Fill every nook and cranny with fluid film. Cab corners, rockers, wash out the bed sides and fill those too. Don’t forget to fill the tail gate
That's a solid idea. Thanks for watching!
With what? Sorry. Just something to protect from rust?
If you have issues with windows, pop the control panel off and clean the contacts with contact cleaner and a q-tip. Worked for me.

A note about 2000 era design, I own a 02 Buick with similar rain issues on the driver side controls for windows and also a 2013 f250 that literally dumps water into the cab. I occasionally drive a an 05 explorer that sends windshield washer fluid into my dashboard too.
Just bought a 2005 gmc 2500hd standard 5 speed with only 89,000 miles !!! Mine is gas burner
Isn’t the HD the deisel?
@@tsharko04 no just means heavy duty
@@dajeep2672 okay thanks
How does it tow?
Just bought 05 2500 with 85k miles 0 rust. I paid up for it, but I know it will out live this new junk for tenth of the price. Took me a while to find a cherry older 2500 but they are still out there.
My 03 GMC 1500 has 160 k miles and runs like a top.Florida truck babied by an old man no rust at all.Love this truck.
Great video! Looking to get one but prices nowadays are outrageous
I got a 2001 2500HD love my truck. It's a tough old girl. Only issues I have had is the Exhaust manifolds, water pump leak, and after 190k miles the power steering pump finally gave up the ghost. Other then that she's been sweet.
Awesome! They're great trucks!
Reliable.
Thats awesome. They'll pretty much run forever if you take care of them. Thanks for watching!
Just bought a 99 silverado 2500 for $2000 CDN with a 6.0l and 319k km. Just needed a front wheel bearing, drives great, extended cab with 8 foot bed. Wanted to flip it, but after driving it and using it to move, I fell in love
Awesome buy!
01 Silverado 1500hd, 6.0 vortec with 322k and counting.. all original engine and trans... minor part swap fixes no issues
That's awesome, I used to have an 03 1500hd a few years ago.
The transfer cases on these often have a pinhole leak, worn from the inside. Your oil leaks out slowly and only when you are driving. I found that out the hard way and was left stranded.
I have heard of that. Thanks for mentioning it!
I had that issue it comes from the internal pump rub it's a pin hole on the outside but the size of a dime on the inside about to blow out any day. That was my only issue I had with my 2003 chevy great truck.
That things barely broken in! Haha great video!
🤔 Pennsylvania...salted roads. Rust issues expected. I live in Georgia and my 2003 GMC 2500HD (bought it new) is solid as a rock! 272,000 miles. I did replace the cluster few years ago.
Great review, literally all of the commons problems you mention Ive seen often. That 6.0 was a gas hog but solid, Id buy it too
Thanks so much! I hope it was a helpful review!
Mine hit 250k only parts that broke was o2 sensors and oil sending unit the truck got wrecked at 220k and the guy drove it home with no fluids burned the trans up did a swap with a 4l80e with 300k miles and a 1800 stall torque converter and still going on strong
Getting an 06 with 70k on it this weekend👍👍. Great vid
That's awesome man! They are a sweet truck.
You provided a lot of valuable information in this video. Thank you so much.
I just bought a 2000 2500 6.0 with 244k miles 4x4 for 2k dollars cash. Runs really good. Body isn’t bad some dents interior isn’t bad leaks oil. I think i got a good damn deal
Have the same truck. Bought it in 2015. Now has over 433k miles. Great truck! Glad you got a good deal on yours too.
That's awesome! They are really solid trucks, especially if you can find one with minimal rust.
I'm looking at a 05 4wd exstended cab for 3k
I am looking at a 04 2500hd single cab short box tomorrow, wish me luck, thank you for a video 👍
Good review. I have a 04 with 225K. Couldn't be happier.
Looking to buy a truck identical to this tomorrow but with 111,000 and one owner.
Thanks for the video!
Nice review brother great and informative I'm looking forward for more high mileage review content 👌✌👍
Thank you! I got a few more reviews coming!
Nice truck. I have an 06 with the 6.0 and i have 243K. All original. Runs absolutely perfect. And it has been used like a truck!
Great review buddy! Really thorough and to the point. Not biased, talk clearly, and even included how it drove. I have an 04 2500hd 6.0 myself, and I can say the dash cluster lights are a total pain lol. Again loved the review, really hope to see some more from you :)
Thanks man! I definitely am biased (I'm a Chevy guy) but I try to see the good and bad in all the brands. Thanks for watching!
How do you fix the lightz
I’ve honestly been thinking of buying one exactly like this and do a full 1500 conversion
Saw a 2008 2500hd beautiful no rust no scratches gorgeous 350k miles asking 4400 buy or bust, guys?
Blower fan and EVAP sensor or whatever, had an 06 Chevy 1500 brand new to 240,000 miles and counting and an 06 GMC Sierra 2500hd 125,000 miles and counting and he nailed it and can say both mechanically we're reliable and work horses.
My '16 6.0 just turned 217k like new yet, hope the 6.6 is as good.
Absolutely agree! Thanks for watching!
Looking at an 2003 chevy silverado 2500 single cab w/ 125k miles anything I should look for when I go?
Also just to be honest I dont really tow. More so will be picking up stuff from lowes and I do need to tow a trailer with a motorcylce from NC to PA and honestly just want a truck so I dont need to rely on anyone for one myself.
$8k ... on pre-covid pricing. Same truck is $15k+ now
You can find them cheap you just have to look. Paid 6500$ for mine today
The 4L60E trans is honestly a lot stronger than I thought it was
🤣
They’re really hit or miss mine was at 345k and I had to fix 2nd and 3rd at 275k. It’s not a 60e anymore though
I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500hd 6.0L & going to my 3rd year with it & hit 200k on it & still runs good 👍🏽
Also to add it to it, I bought it for $7k :)
Might want to specify the rust issue. Here in the Pacific NW our cat eye silverados dont rust. A definite buy for a 2WD to each there own.
GM pump rub is a big one in the 4 wheel drive
I thought you said high miles. My 6.0L 2500HD has 296k. Runs like a top. Bit Rusty.
They're awesome trucks!
Just bought 1 and while driving back home check engine came on. Scanned it and vacuum leak and Bank 1 and bank 2 lower 02 sensors are going bad. 117k miles and spent 11k on it. Guess I got sucker.
Should be easy fixes though.
When he says price a bug flew by camera so close that it made me think it was real and landing on me. I replayed it and still jumped lmao not ready for late spring/ summer bugs yet. Lol
Me too!! 😂😂😂
I'm confused? Most of the 1999-2006 Chevy trucks that are for sale in my area are running and have 360,000 miles.
I just grabbed one with a 6.0 with 380k on the dash. Drove it an hour home for $1000
My grandpa has had a 2500 single cab gmc Sierra with the 6.0 he has had it at least 5 years prob more I started learning how to drive in it. And this truck has been beat to shit my grandpa is hard on his trucks it has big ads dents in the doors scratches has hit water gaps to hard been joy ride got muddy and only prob u remember it having is the blower motor went out tho I dont believe he got it Completely stock
165,000 ??? Mine is closing 300,000 and is still running strong. And before I go it, it led a hard life as a work truck for Sask Energy.
How many miles do you think these trucks can last since they already have so much miles
that tick from the motor isnt exhaust bolts, its piston slap...there is a TSB for it. Goes away some what when engine gets hot...my 4L80 went out at 91k.. meh.
what do you think about 2006 year 2500 model with a manual transmission?
I found an '04 2500 work truck with a plow, barely rust with 74k miles for about $6k
@@TopLineRacer thank you
35's on a stock gas powered truck would make it a dog. Those trucks had 30.5 inch tires stock. You need to change your axle ratios to 4.56's to get back your performance.
I gonna go buy a truck like this one tomorrow for 4500 same miles hope it go good
As far as gas engines go, these LS platforms are unbeatable. Truck should serve you well. 👍
Found a 01’ 2500HD 6.0 with 115k miles for 10k. It’s the super cab. Is that a good buy?
Im buying a 06 2500 with 76k original miles it has the 6.0 it was garage kept fully loaded including leather for $8k from a family friend.
Lucky. I just paid $16k for an SLE with 125k miles but I've been looking for months and that was the best deal I could find with those miles and the condition it was in
What about towing a 04 Chevy Silverado single cab you thick it can pull that
Just overpayed for a real gem. Glad to have it. 6.0!
99 to 2006 best years of the Silverado
When will you do the high mile review ???
