I just wanted to thank you for this amazing video. I am a beginner at this it will be most helpful in my work. Your time and effort is most appreciated.
Very helpful! Thank you for making this video! I know this is 2 years after you made it, but it is very helpful for me. I paint in oils but am trying to also get adjusted to painting in acrylics as a way to learn another medium, but boy it's hard. I've been using paint by numbers as a learning aid, but hate the way even the most detailed paintings look when done. Going to try your method, it looks like a great way to start. Thank you again.
just found your channel...bought my grands some PBN's....loe this blending...when I was in the NAVY I use to get PBN's, and with blending or using other colors created my own paintings....and sold them to other mates at $10 a piece....I have done traditional paintings as well....its a fun way to paint....awesome tutorials, binging on them today...
This was super useful and it looks highly achievable. I'm working on a custom of my niece and nephew and their faces are going to need exactly this. Now I'm armed with some knowledge I'm going to give it a go! Thanks Melanie
I’m launching my skin-blending video in the next few days, where I use a different technique, and I also use the one-stroke blending method. It works fabulously!
I find it much easier to mix the two colors together then apply. This allows you to be able to blend in a much smaller space without losing your contours. If the two colors are very different it's often helpful to apply a single stroke directly to the line of demarcation, let it dry, then blend out with additional paint if needed. A thin palette knife is very handy for measuring paint, you can dip the tip in the same amount for each, if you need only a tiny amount simply scrape one side back into the pot. It's also perfect for mixing paint in the pot, the flat edges get all the way to the sides and bottom and you can scrape the paint back into the pot cleanly. For very small amounts I usually just use my brush to mix, just be sure to wipe the first color onto your palette before dipping into the second to avoid contaminating the other paint pot (put the bristles down and give the brush a little spin, 90% comes off in a small space).. I also try to go into my lighter color first.
I do not use my palette knives, because either side of the small metal tool works better to get out very little paint. I still have a lot of painting to do on this piece, and I’m going to be very careful to use the least amount of paint possible. The reason I don’t mix the colors together to create only one color is because that is only one gradation of what I need. I get an unlimited number of values by using the two methods I demonstrate in this video. Everyone has their own way, and as I’ve said in about 30 videos, I teach my way and recommended that you do what works for you. 😉
OMG! The long-awaited skin blending video! And here I am with a strict work deadline having to postpone watching it until I‘ve delivered. For the shaky camera I’m thinking a sturdier camera rig and maybe place wedges on your desk’s legs? It is probably that your camera is too heavy for the rig or the table.
I hope it is worth the wait! It’s a brand new, fabulous mount, and I got a new desk, BUT the desk is what is shaky. I have a plan for future videos. Crossing my fingers!
This was fascinating to watch. I just discovered your channel today and have been steadily making my way through all of your videos. I love them!! I have always loved drawing and painting but never had true training. Thank you for making such helpful videos!I am waiting for my paint by numbers to come in the mail
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! I’m ask by friends and family when I tell them I teach paint by numbers. They think “shouldn’t that be self-explanatory?” You would think so, wouldn’t you? But there has been so much information I’ve discovered and wanted to share along the way. Your positive feedback keeps me wanting to keep doing what I love. 🥰
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio I have purchased this adorable bee paint by number today because of amazons prime deals and one of the complaints in the reviews was that the paint was too thin. I instantly thought, I will use Gesso and white sharpie acrylic markers, so that won't be a problem! lol. Do you happen to have a video on how to tell if paints are opaque, semi-opaque, etc??
I usually look at the original photo on the website to determine that. I also have an exclusive video at PaintPlot.com that may help! paintplot.com/blogs/news/paint-by-number-blending-made-easy-with-paint-plot
I looked it up and it basically is a liquid in a bottle made specifically to allow paint to stay wet longer..it prevents it from drying quickly so you can have time to blend
Just remember it’s just paint. You can test the technique first on another sample surface. Then test it on a very small area of your painting. Let it dry to see the results. Don’t overwhelm yourself and check the results to give yourself the confidence you need to keep working on it! You’ll do great…I just know it!!
Good morning, boo!!! Im gonna need a bigger container of *clear* gesso. Do u know of a brand that sells a big container of it? I could find 32oz white but not clear
Hi I just want to know something. I'm getting my pbn soon. My question is if I'm not finish with my work. Can this canvas rolled up and do the following day work on canvas. Any advice please this is my first time try
Yes ma’am, for sure! I have 6-8 videos on mounting. I have been trying to reorganize my videos to make them easier to find, but it is taking a while. In the meantime, I’ll post a few of those here for you. This has been very helpful so now i need to try what you taught me! Thank you
The hardest part is just going for it, but you can try it on a separate piece of cardstock or your palette before you start on your canvas. 😊

So is better to wait until I finished the face to start blending? I love your channel I m learning a lot thank you
I always wait in case I don’t need to blend, and so I won’t run out of paint.
Hi Melanie do u have any video’s on how to know where u should blend ?
I usually look at the original photo on the website to determine that. I also have an exclusive video at PaintPlot.com that may help! paintplot.com/blogs/news/paint-by-number-blending-made-easy-with-paint-plot
Hi Melanie, thankyou for these videos, I’m yet to start my first painting. So I’m wondering what is extender? Is it the acrylic flow medium?
She likes your comment but doesn’t reply? Melanie, please reply!

Hi Melanie 👋
I have a custom made PBN of my 3 grandchildren...
I am petrified of trying to blend their faces as I'm scared incase I ruin it xx

@@luvsytycd62 thanks sooooo much. I have so many pnb. The 8oz aint gonna cut it.

Yes, you can do that. I usually store my paintings flat, so the paint can dry completely. As long as the paint is dry, that should be fine.
@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio Thank you so much Melanie
Can the canvas be mounted to something to make it easier to paint?

Where do you get your outline
Yes what is “extender”?
It’s a liquid in a bottle made specifically to allow paint to stay wet longer..it prevents it from drying quickly so you can have time to blend
Is liquid extender different from floaide?
Yes, I did a video on Additives to explain the difference. 😊 ua-cam.com/video/TuLuT1GtSmE/v-deo.html

I'd love to see the before and after side by side. There's one at the beginning, but it shows it too quickly. Thank you.
47:47 and 48:09 you changed brushes, but they look the same width..why was that?
