    Are you sure that the dimensions are correct? (14:21)

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 років тому +8

      They're absolutely not all correct, and UA-cam has taken away any real method to add a correction on screen or fix it. They should read: Head: 1.03 in (2.61 cm), length 3.17 (8.05cm). Everything else is correct.

    • @jenda386
      @jenda386 7 років тому +1

      Yeah, I was thinking that 8 cm head would not fit into most pockets well at all. I enjoyed the review very much.

    The reptile overlords told me to like, comment and share. Done. Very good review, subbed.
    Nice coincidence is, I did lose my edc light at work, and I was in for a new one. This one sold me. Good job, overlords.

    MORE BABIES BEING ADORABLE PLEASE
    When my budget is more flexible, I'm picking up a Zebralight headlamp. It's the only compact AA headlamp with sub 1 lumen (and enough throw to read house numbers) that I know of. Most headlamps are too floddy for my liking.

    Very nice comprehensive review sir. Liked and subbed; love the sarcastic humor as well. I’ve been attached to Olight for a while and need a change - this looks amazing. Presuming you still get this comment after so many years…. How did it hold up and would you still recommend it?
    [Edit] Was this essentially replaced by the SC5W?

    Mini-AdvancedKnifeBro has great flashlight etiquette, give my 2 year old a flashlight and it's straight into dad's eyes. Another great video, I've watched them all, keep them coming, although your making me buy flashlights again.

    Nice review as always. Can't wait till the 18650 lights get the new UI. Returned an olight h2r because it was so heavy and didn't care for the mode spacing and live contacts. Bought a zebralight h600fc instead and it is waaay better imo. Zebralight just does it right. So light for an 18650. So many modes. Awesome warm cri tint. If I was in the market I would buy this AA lite too.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro

    Wow great video! I have the SC52w L2 AA light. Its definitely my favorite light and I love the lower lumen outputs for 95% of my tasks while camping. The high CRI makes nature look great at night. Very natural. The only thing I don't like about this light, and many others now it seems, is how easy it is to lock out the light. I turn it off accidentally with a strong grip all the time, or try and turn it on and have to tighten the head because it lost contact. I use it so often that at least a quarter turn lockout would make more sense. But overall the SC5c mk II looks like it would be an upgrade to the light I have while being relatively similar.

    Just got this light today and I can tell this is going to be my new favorite! I have the sc600w mkIII so I knew I would like this one. My only complaint is the pocket clip. I wish it was a bit more deep carry, wasn't screwed on and mine is way to stiff, I can barely get it in my pocket... UI is great.

    One can't have too many flashlights. Or knives. Or therapists. I own the SC5 W DP, which is probably nearly identical to this SC5c MKII, but after watching your review I find myself wanting the SC5c MKII. And another therapist.

    I find the Mi7 a great pocket light as it's super bright.The only problem is the on switch is easy to accidentally activate so you must use the lock out.I use my Mi7 mainly for indoor use while I use bigger lights with more mode options for outdoor use.

    • @extrastuff9463
      @extrastuff9463 7 років тому

      A similar style has been used on the sc52, sc5, sc62 and sc63 line in the past. Although the old ones were polished steel finish (no black coating/paint), and a larger hole cut out around the part that flexes near the screw attachment point.
      The larger ones (sc600 form factor) have always used the other push on clips that sit deeper in the pocket. I hope they'll keep using the same clips on those.

      Started letting my nephew handle some of my smallest pocket knives (under close supervision) when he was 4. Now he's six and his grandmother has given him his own standard size swiss army knife. Is my family odd? I grew up the same way, had a 410 break action shotgun at 11. Rarely shot it though because My dad was stingy with the ammo. Pellet/BB guns all day long however. Ahh country life. Now I live in a city in California and it kinda sucks =D

    It would be great if you did more AA/14500 lights. I want to see the new EDC brass triple from ASF. Also, you may want to check out the Jetbeam SF-AA01. 700lm 14500 rear clicky light with surprising throw from an XP-L HI & smooth reflector. I have one and love it. It's a perfect size for EDC and has a super simple UI but no moonlight sadly.

    I got the headlamp version of this and the same defect happened, it was a faint flicker, and medium didn't turn on. I sent it back and am waiting for the new one to come in. I hope Zebralight isn't experiencing quality issues. They also don't seem very friendly RE: customer service. Maybe that's a no-frills feature of how they operate. For instance, I emailed them asking if the H600 had a pocket clip, or if I could buy a pocket clip. Their response was one word, "no". I do appreciate concise communication, but it seems a little gruff. Again, maybe a feature of their culture (not all customer service needs to be Nordstrom-like).
    Anyways, hope Zebralight isn't going through a quality-control-growing-pains phase.

      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 років тому +1

      Oh... I left out the part where I didn't hear back from them for weeks... when I was waiting for a replacement... I asked multiple times... for just an update. I finally had to get sort of snippy- and then it was shipped out a few days later.

    Awesome review! Coincidentally just ordered this and the H53C a day ago direct from Zebralight (mainly because of the AA battery format and high CRI values) but now I'm worried about getting units with the same flicker issues as yours. How did your customer service experience go with this specific light?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 років тому +1

      +Edgar Ilaga most people didn't experience the flicker. I want to say it was on the .08 lumen mode... or maybe the .28 lumen mode. Just check it close in a dark room. If it doesn't flicker you're good. Customer service was slow- mine was about a month turn around... they said they received my return and didn't say anything after that... I messaged them 2 or 3 times over a month with no response until finally I sent a sort of stern message- asking why they stopped communicating. They responded finally- saying they were sorry- and sent it a few days later. I paid return shipping

    What if I fall asleep and then wake up and realize I'm 4 videos deep so I have to go back and rewatch the video again? If I'm understanding this correctly I could technically program all the modes to the same level and have a single mode light... almost.

    My go to AA is the Manker E11. 400lm AA / 800lm 14500 cell. $30. Only 4 power modes and the lowest is ~20lm so no moonlight is the main downside. Ultra deep carry clip and slim efficient form factor are big pluses. My daily carry lights need to be reasonably cheap as they seem to jump out of my pockets in a way that knives don't. BTW: Anyone know a good source for high quality 14500's that don't cost a fortune? I sure don't.

  • @extrastuff9463
    @extrastuff9463 7 років тому +1

    Been looking at this one a few times now, that interface has me tempted every time I looked at it but I'm trying to refrain from ordering until an 18650 one with it comes along. Preferably in the sc63 form factor but sc600 will do if I have to.
    As for the batteries used by Zebralight, their product page does state it over here: www.zebralight.com/SC5c-Mk-II-AA-Flashlight-Neutral-White-High-CRI_p_192.html
    "Light output are ANSI out the front (OTF) values. Runtimes tested (and parasitic drain estimated) using Panasonic Eneloop Pro AA batteries. Remaining battery power, about 10-20%, after step-down are not counted towards the runtimes."
    And your story about the long replacement shipping time makes me happy about that one time I had an issue with one I bought through nkon.nl they were quick with a return shipping label to put on a box and had the replacement within a week. It was some strange malfunction with the high mode freaking out after a while of being on and other weird intermittent issues with brightness levels in general when stepping through the modes with press and hold.
    When this makes it to the 18650 models with a PID though, I somehow think people will go even more crazy about the user interface description if you add how to adjust the max temperature the PID will allow. I think it was having it in H1 before turning it off, turning it on in H1 and going through the modes from on by pressing + holding the button 5 or 6 times and then releasing it on low, medium or high. Low to lower it by 1 degree, medium to reset it to default and high to raise it by 1 degree. Pretty sure the maximum deviation from factory it allows is 5 degrees celsius.

      Yeah... their customer service leaves a bit to be desired (Zebralights). Good to know about them using the pros. That means that some of the runtimes, that are already better than Zebralights would be even better.

      Was watching the video again, that stood out at 1:20 this isn't the polished stainless steel clip I'm used to on the older sc52, sc62 and sc63 models. These new ones are black, not sure how I feel about that the initial look is fine but my experience with black clips on torches/knives is that usually over time you'll wear off the coating/paint/whatever and its sometimes just better to start with a piece of polished or satin finish steel.
      The shape is different too with a large amount being removed material in the middle near the attachment point for older ones where it flexes, instead it now has 3 holes that get smaller towards the head. Different fasteners as well based on the scale I'd say probably a T6 or T7 if the attachment base is still equally wide, the old ones used philips head screws.
      The sc600 clips will normally be like the deeper carry ones you referred to, those have been unchanged in my experience so far with the sc600w mk2, s600w mk3, sc600w hi intensity mk3, sc600Fd mk3 plus. I hope they won't change those and I'm not sure if I like the change in the smaller models. I wonder what they'll put on a sc62/sc63 form factor with the new UI eventually, using a T6 or T7 fastener screw is an improvement though in my opinion since they hold up a bit better than a regular philips.
      Btw something I'm really curious about, does the new SC5c have any improvement in being able to judge battery state of charge? I've owned (and still got some) of the AA/14500 based models and they are all terrible at judging the state of charge. Fresh from the charger 4 flashes, little bit of use 3 flashes, way more than half left and you get 2 or 1 flash already. I know its difficult to judge the state of charge of NiMH based on open cell or low load voltage which you can get away with on lithium ion batteries, but it has always really annoyed me the days I had limited pocket space and used my sc52w or the h52Fw that's in my backpack.

      Thats a nice one too. Although it looks like the performance on an eneloop has been tested to be less than what I tested... and it doesn't have proper moonlight levels. Not a bad light though.

      Yeah... the file I uploaded doesn't look like that. It looks pretty bad on all of the UA-cam versions for me. These videos have a lot of black areas in them, and compression looks worst there. Next time I do a flashlight review I'll render it in a h264 version thats smaller and upload that. I normally upload in prores... which is about 8 GB for a video this long.

    Bro when are you going to get the new SC600 MK IV Plus and make a hella lit video ?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  6 років тому +1

      I've had it for months- and made part of the video but never finished it. The way those time lapse videos rekt my camera, and all the writing down numbers and math and shit- I just don't like doing them anymore. The internet likes long flashlight videos where people set their camera to auto- and don't test them I guess. My 15 hours spent on each video gets the same amount of views a person who spends 15 minutes makes. I might finish this video this year... but in all honestly- the IV is like the III except with that SC5 new UI. It's great and if you've watched my mk III video and the SC5 Mk II video- it's like a combination of those two. My favorite EDC. End of review.

    I love your videos but I have a recommendation. Have you thought about separating the programming/light test from your reviews, like nick shabaz does his tear down of knives in different videos from the knife reviews? I really appreciate your opinion on things and humor but 16+ minutes for a flashlight review is a bit much. If I ended up buying one of these lights I'd love to have a video of you breaking down the settings and the lumen values you get but don't really need to see it in a review.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 років тому +1

      I have sort of thought about this. Let me play the Devils advocate though- many of nick Shabazz's and many other reviewers knife reviews continue into the 15-25 minute territory on just a single knife. A knife. Flashlights are inherently more complex- and just by function my testing takes those past a short review. Many table top reviews make flashlight reviews much longer than my videos, and they include no testing. My knife reviews and flashlight reviews are generally shorter and more comprehensive and take longer to produce than nearly all other internet reviewers. Which is why I use many camera set-ups, humor, jokes, and more to try and keep them moving along fast.
      I know it's a long video- but your request is probably the only I have gotten in a year and a half. I have thought about it... and I see my analytical show most people only watch 3-5 minutes in, on average. So it's a valid criticism. But youtube also rewards for longer videos... which is why you have knife guys reading catalogs for half an hour for the camera. So the answer is No, I am not going to do that now. But the good news is, I only have one flashlight review coming up in the middle of next month... and I'm not planning on any more for a while. So hopefully that helps! Honestly, you can get all you need to know by reading the manufacturers product page... and if you don't like doing that- there are dudes who unbox flashlights for about 5 minutes- you might get what you need from that.

      Thanks for taking the time to make such a detailed response. I can definitely see your reasoning though. I'm really into flash lights and knives, like every other IPA drinking knife bro so I'm going to continue watching your videos and supporting your channel regardless of the time length of your posts. I was just giving some feedback and didn't know if it had occurred to you/come up before.

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 років тому

      No problem! Believe me though... I have thought about just making shorter reviews for a while- mostly because of what my analytics tell me. I've actually improved my videos over the years because of viewer requests. The beamshots got better because of comparisons, the runtimes got better because of the lux meter, I've tried to sound more enthusiastic... etc. Believe it or not, I have had people on several occasions say they prefer my longer reviews- I'm not sure why- but they do.
      And another thing I kind of hate about UA-cam... is how people milk a single product. They can make 3 10-15 minute videos off a single whatever... and I don't like that. Those videos are often padded and cover the same ground... and I prefer to make one slightly longer, but better review. I know this is more than you wanted to hear about this... but it's something I often think about, when wondering why I don't have a larger audience.

    How would rate the Klarus Mi7 in camparison?

    • @AdvancedKnifeBro
      @AdvancedKnifeBro  7 років тому +2

      A lot of people like that one. It has only 3 modes 5 lumens/90 lumens/ 330 lumens (700 on 14500). But I have not been interested in it because of the large mode spacing and lack of a sub lumen mode. It can accept 14500 though, so it can be brighter than the Zebralight. If you're not concerned by low end mode spacing or low modes, then this is a fine choice.

      You have to go into G6 or G7. So click 6 times from off to go to G6... Then turn on your light in the mode you want to reassign. Double click 6 times... then you get to programming. then you go up in brightness by double clicks, down in brightness with triple clicks. Then press once to save the programming for that level. Hope that helps!
