Hi Jason! Par for the course in 1890! I started looking at old buildings several months ago. I have already come across 102 local to me here in MA and RI all built in the 1890s. Multiply this across the country. No way!
It is actually speculated that the mansion was designed by John DeWaard, an architect that was born in the Netherlands and later moved to Duluth. There is a newspaper article written in the 1890's that mentions his name as the designer of this home. Also, the top of the tower is a feature you often see in Dutch architecture. There is a church tower in the center of Amersfoort (de Elleboogkerk) that has a very similar tower. I used to work at Fairlawn.
It's funny that it's only "speculated" who the actual architect was, yet they stll tell us all those other details and build dates with some type of certainty.
raised in Superior. Visited the Pattison Park many times and it has a waterfall that is magnificent. The mansion has many rooms and the "INTERIOR" was very nice. I wish I was a member of the odd fellows and masons. It seems that they were able to get materials when everything was by HORSE and Cart during the 1890's. No HWY 35 until 1960's. No electricity. No barker island that you can view today as it was made by the Barge pumping the bay during the 1900's. population of 25,000 at best and there are many other nice buildings there as well. Being Sheriff was what my brother did and it was a very full time job.
Amazing Structure. Really no problem to build with all those amazing materials during that time period, all the architech had to do was sit down and write letters to (Eygpt for marble) for example with a quick sketch of the diminisions. Then hand the letter to a chap on a horse who rode South then East to some sort of boat in the Atlantic Ocean harbor. I am sure the materials arrived back in Wisconsin a couple of weeks later. Thanks for posting.
It was like as easy as horse and wagon and steam engine Amazon Prime! Hahaha. "Measure twice, cut once with all of that precious marble! And don't break it in its journey across the world!". 🤣🤣
Funny how the Pattinson was secret society and some how this palatial estate was built in a year, with the winters in that area making the construction season months shorter
When do you think the written history or added details to "enrich" history comes from? I think it might have been with the WPA of the 1930s and early 1940s. Most archives include a lot of "transcribed" records many without any reference to the source. He went from Sheriff to owner of this great home in under 10 years? I found this video on the superior public museums facebook page. Good for them to acknowledge history should be questioned.
A man named Bob Jones is posting these on Facebook. He has his name added to them. He friended me and gave me the impression that he was creating these videos when I figured out that was not true I unfriended him. I just thought I’d let you know what was going on while I think it’s great that he’s sharing your videos. I don’t think it’s right for him to put his name on them Peace.

Beautiful! By the way…it’s spelled 'Belfry'
Whoops.
I would live there. I want that to be my house! How many lower floors does it have??? Excellent video. Please keep it up

A lot of repeated patterns in these stories.
@@ArchesandColumns Got that right!
