Every January I make pet beds for Furry Friends in Jupiter FL with scraps saved throughout the year. The dogs and cats are so happy to have a nice comfy pillow/bed to sleep on. I have enough scraps stored in bags in my garage now for about 20 beds! Simple, fun and easy to make! And for such a good cause!

Billie says there's no pressure making something for animals. Well, every time I start a cat quilt my cat Archie has to sit on it and look at me like "Hurry up and finish this for me mom!" So I end up letting him sit on one intended for someone else and then I gotta go wash it and get the fur off. I swear that cat is psychic!

Love these goal videos you post each year! They definitely inspire me and help me to move forward positively with new goals and to let go of the old! It made me think of something I heard once and always say to younger women in my life who feel like the need to do it all." You can do it all, but not at the same time!"

Chelsi, I was surprized you'd not heard of crumb quilting/crumb blocks! I know y'all stay so busy with designing, etc., I'm sure you may not have time for crumb sewing. I've been doing it for several years years now & it's so freeing & "mindless" sewing. Jenny Doan talks about doing this pretty much every morning just to get her juices flowing 😊😊 Billy-you'll come to realize that dogs LOVE quilts 💗💗 My Shih-Tzu would lay on any pile of fabric I had out while sorting it. One time a friend had acquired from someone else quite a stash of fabrics. She brought the sack over, we dumped it out on the living room floor to go thru it & there he was "helping"!!!

Our Guild has everyone save their fabric scraps and make a dog bed at home which is donated to a shelter. I used upholstery fabric to make a pillow which I fill with scraps of fabric and batting 20x20. It takes me about a year to fill. Also I have been to retreats where someone brought a pillow case where everyone dumped their scraps to be used for dog and cat beds.

Im behind of episodes but yes! I found out through my Quilt Guild to make animal beds from scraps... They instructed to use old pillow cases but I made my own because I wanted to make one with cute animal fabric (and to make different sizes) but they donate them to local animal shelter - it also helps the animal transition into their new home because it has a scent they are use to 🐾❤️

I'm loving hearing Billie's excitement about future quilting ideas. I agree that when you have a reason to quilt, it makes it much more enjoyable. I've always had a favorite donation project that I enjoy working on. I've done many children's quilts for various organizations, and the last 18 years I've been engrossed in Quilts of Valor. After all, family quilts are wonderful, but when the family is "well covered," it becomes time to think of new reasons to quilt. BTW, our local animal shelter has said "no more dog beds" because so many of us have overloaded them! :)

From what I’ve read about behavior modification, it is absolutely critical that we experience success. Success gives us the energy to try again. Repeated success gives us the energy to try more. Therefore, goals should always be set to be achievable. Sure, 12 quilts in a year would be a great achievement for some of us, but getting to 12 quilts in a year requires the ability to do at least, say, 6 quilts a year. Once that has been achieved, perhaps 7 will be possible, and so on. We need to set ourselves up to succeed, and that will support our growth over time. (Yes, I know this, and yet I so often fail to follow this precept. Humans - we are so illogical!)

Love the idea about pet quilts - a crib size is probably just the right size - maybe one of the smaller lap sizes for large dogs. Seems like a great way to use up smaller cuts of fabric and the perfect opportunity to try out Free Motion Quilting or some of the walking foot techniques along with using those left over pieces of batting (using batting tape to piece together small pieces into usable sizes).

*DOG BEDS FOR VETERANS: my friend Jackie was a U. S. Marine 🇺🇸 Every year she participates in Stand-Down San Diego. This event is for homeless veterans, veterans at risk of homelessness or unemployed.
One of the things Jackie does throughout the year is make dog beds to gift to veterans in need that have dogs as companions. I save all my quilt scraps, clean old towels and t-shirts, sweatshirts, anything soft, etc (cut up) for her and I collect from others.
One idea I am currently working on was in a comment from Zane Ruby in episode 71. I have an old clean T-shirt hanging on my sewing chair and as I am working on blocks/quilts I place the cuttings and trimmings and smaller pieces of batting in the neck. When it is stuffed I’ll sew the neck up.

I have no idea on how to keep organized to be able to complete any one of the six sew alongs and now with all the new 2023 sew alongs coming out….I feel wow this is way more than I can ever complete at my age. I have also picked up cross stitching and now I have fifty six starts in progress and have only got three completed. I love everything and love doing it all but the pressure has overwhelmed me. Any suggestions on how I can try to stay focused especially since life sometimes have other plans. I think I really need some help. I do have so much fabric to be able to finish all my quilt alongs. I have stopped buying fabric because I have literally filled six very tall book cases full and that is not counting the four plastic huge totes full of backing material. Please help.

My suggestion would be to pick out just 2 of the Quilt Alongs - one that is easy for you in skill level and has fabric and pattern you enjoy. For the second one, choose one that has fabric you love but stretches your skills or is a pattern/blocks that you have not done in awhile. You can alternate between the two, depending on your time, energy and mood.

Wow, you guys are way too hard on yourselves grade wise. With all your accomplishments where does that put the rest of us? Maybe it’s because I’m not such a big goal setter. Be nice to yourselves, you all are phenomenal!!!
