It was opened in 1939. Trained sailors for WW2. My dad trained there.

Three of us from Clyde Division RNR did our leadership training here in 1974 and that training still stands me in good stead today. It was an excellent and enjoyable training course and it's a shame to see the buildings so run down now.

Have lived in Neston very close to Royal Arthur all my life. I worked for a building firm who had the term contract to maintain the place when I left school. It makes me sad to see it like that. It really was kept so well up together in days gone by. I remember the fantastic open days as a kid as well!....makes me feel old looking at this....

During the late 90's I lead a party of school children from Plymouth around the base. We were delighted to meet the CO Capt Davidson who showed great pride in his ship.Let us hope the RN rises again before it is too late !

I was the last Captain of HMS ROYAL ARTHUR. It had a proud history of leadership training for the Royal Navy, preceded by its inception as an induction centre for rating recruits. Your photographs are not only a record of mindless vandalism but a testament to wastage and inertia in developing land for the good of the surrounding community.

I worked here in 1968 working for the MPBW/DOE trying to keep the buildings up together. Loads of money was spent. I thought it had a good atmosphere. I use to swim in the pool at lunchtime. I got a bollocking for digging up the captains favourite Cherry tree to put in a steam heating duct.
The men in training use to have to drag a large cart up a steep quarry waste tip. The chaps use to call it Cough and Spasm rather than cliff and chasm ,it's official title, I believe. One chap had a heart attack while I was there!
I was saddened to see it in such a dreadful state, but as me partner says,"It was over 50 years ago!
Wouldn't it be a good idea to pull it Down now?
