My late father C.R.S. Bill Cook RN, did some final training there before going to Ascension Island as part of Naval Party 1984, to set up a monitoring station for GCHQ.
Have lived in Neston very close to Royal Arthur all my life. I worked for a building firm who had the term contract to maintain the place when I left school. It makes me sad to see it like that. It really was kept so well up together in days gone by. I remember the fantastic open days as a kid as well!....makes me feel old looking at this....
spent a week there around 79/80 with my local sea cadets remember the assuilt course which was hard think the place was a trainning base fo petty officers
@Bentley240 I agree, I can't stand the mindless graffiti that appears almost everywhere nowadays. But there is some really good art here that took time & patience to complete.
I went round the site today and we saw to guard dogs im 12 just wanted to see what it looked like but just on our way out we did meet 2 alsations I told my friend to run as she ran through the thorn bush I was stood on a wall by 2 barrels as the dogs was growling and barking luckly I managed to escape from them but we were just looking not there to brake or go inside
Just as grim looking when I was called up in 1948 not the graffiti then but still a dismal place cold and unforgiving not the happiest of my places in my life nothing to do with the 'tuition' there Just a dump!!!
i was an instructor there the last 3 years of her life, best place served, gr8 memories, sad pics on here!
I did my leadership course there in 1969. Remember the obstacle course, and collecting rum.

My Father was there as a Petty Officer during the 50's what a terrible shame to see the place in that condition........
My dad was stationed here as a chief petty officer in the late 80's. I have good memories of the base, sad to see it in a mess.

I served hear and looked after the armoury and parade ground back in 1986 - 87/88 fantastic place
You should go 150ft underground to the massive "city" scale buker there with 25 miles of tunnels. regards.
I spent 4-6 weeks here in 1969 on a leadership course after qualifying for Petty Officer.
