Great video. I live off grid in SE Australia. I highly recommend buying a small lithium battery bank/solar charger with a 40W solar panel (aprox €200). They come with a 240v socket, 3 USB A ports and threee DC ports to run lights ... best thing since the pop-up toaster. I have one here charging my phone, two iPads, numerous lights, power tool batteries, headlights, rechargeable batteries etc.. Best wishes 🦘☕️
Thanks so much for the advice Lee. We’ve been looking at similar systems recently. We’ll definitely get a set up similar to this for the Cabin, and then eventually the house! Thank you for sharing 😁
Just discovered your channel and am loving your positive vibe. Your land looks beautiful and definitely a challenge but I'm sure you'll get there, I wish you good luck in your journey and am looking forward to working through your videos. Much love from Australia xxx
Would be nice to get a video outlining the title and type of property you brought and what the legalities are on altering or building property on that land, and the processes involved. Also the prices in the area, Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion Ryan. We definitely intend to share more videos like that soon. Of course, we’re by no means experts on the subject, and not lawyers, but we can share our experience and as much info as we have!! 😁
Have you considered building any part of your structures with cob? It looks like you have plenty of coarse sand and hay available..if you have a bit of clay and happy bare feet...you could have a "cob party" and extend your resources/building efforts.....
Yes! We’ve seen a lot of people using cob. We might try that for animal huts or workshop buildings or something in the future perhaps. Really like the idea of using all the natural materials.
New to your content, love the choice of property you made. Has much more options and character with the terraces and double story building. Will be watching from the beginning and having to catch up. Looking forward to watching.👍
Congratulations guys! I can not wait to see what you will do with these new property. I have been 1 year in Barcelona, and my boyfriend (Irish) and myself (french) are looking for land too. To either renovate or install tiny house. I m glad to see it is possible to find nice pieces of land around here for not too expensive.... Good luck and maybe see you around!
Thank you Pauline! Yes, it is totally achievable on a small budget - it just depends what your priorities are in terms of the size of land or ability to build, etc. But there are definitely some great options. We found that north of Barcelona was just too expensive, so we looked further south and found these great options in the Baix Ebre region ☺️ Now we just can’t wait to get started!!!
Great video - I know that area extremely well. It looks like you are in the hills between Tivenys and Benifallet. It’s very beautiful and views of the els ports mountain range. I’d recommend Lyn and Ian’s b/b if you need another comfortable nights stay locally at any point. It’s in Tivenys and called Casa Siempre. They are an absolute mine of local knowledge and lovely people. Anyway good luck and I look forward to following your progress. Good luck with the car purchase - they tend to be very expensive.
Thanks for the b&b recommendation. And we’ll definitely reach out for advice and a set of new local friends too ☺️ Do you live around the area too? Or have just visited a lot? It’s such a beautiful landscape!
Really like your videos and following your adventure. Presently we are living in Central America but are thinking to make a new start in Spain during the next 1 to 2 years. One small idea for your tiny barn design. If you change the actual stone/concrete stair inside to one build with wood you can use the space below for storage, maybe even for fridge and/or washing machine.
Thank you. Glad you’re enjoying following along our progress 💚 Great idea about the stairs. We are definitely planning to remove them and replace with a better solution 👌🏻
Hi, it looks like a great project and cheers to both of you for jumping in and being so transparent about the challenges, preparation, and wonderful things that you two experienced. We are considering moving to Spain and are looking at locations (average rainfall, zoning/building restrictions, etc. It would be great to know any "philosophical info" on your efforts. You mentioned permaculture which is a huge and popular topic right now. Can you comment on any impulse you feel about sustainable living (assuming you). It seems like your experience is such a nice mix of metro life and now a shift to homesteading.
Hi Steve. Thanks so much. An exciting step for you, starting looking at different options! There are so many lovely places. For us, self sufficiency and sustainable practices is a big part of why we want to move out of the city. We enjoy city living but have always been drawn to the idea of a smallholding/homestead where we can grow our own food, raise animals and generate our own energy from solar/wind power. It’s something we’ve been talking about for the 16 years we’ve been together! So exciting that we’re finally doing it!
Hi guys. I'm very impressed and glad about your commitment, nerve, and talent for two main reasons. First, because you were able to go ahead on your plan even this crazy COVID-19 outbreak time. Second, because you're very brave and enthusiastic about the hard work you have on the way. You are definitely amazing and gorgeous. My couple and I are in Barcelona thinking to do something like you did. Please, for both of us will be a big pleasure to keep in touch with you and collaborate with you if we can. Good luck with everything and, like Catalan people said "molta merda". See you later alligator. Hugs
Moltes gràcies Pedro. We’re so glad you’re enjoying following our journey, and that you share our passion to do something like this too. What area of Spain are you so considering? Also Catalunya? The pandemic has definitely affected our plans a bit, but we’re so happy we were able to still purchase the land, even in the middle of Covid-19 - and hopefully many others like you can too ☺️
Hi neighbours! Love seeing your videos and how you went about things. We bought a large plot near Tivissa over 13 years ago... and have done nothing with it! (for one reason or another). But we still love the place and are really eager to see you succeed. Your Casita (or is it legally a Masia?) is almost liveable... that seems to be a great asset! Thoroughly recommend you read a book called "Mothers Garden" about a couple that moved too Falset... Well done, guys and congratulations!
Thanks so much Gary. We’re so excited to get stuck in and start the renovation. And to get going on the land prep for future growing! It’s just a casita-about 60sqm in total. And although it looks in pretty good shape, it’s definitely going to need a new roof and floors, but that’s all to be expected. We’ll definitely check out the book recommendation; thank you! Do you still live somewhere around the area? Or in Spain? Or have your travels taken you elsewhere since?
Great video! What a beautiful piece of land that you've been able to buy. Can't wait to see what your plans are for the building. I've subscribed so that I can follow along on your exciting journey.
Thanks Maria! Haha yes, it was a huge shock - we knew there were snakes, but didn’t really expect to see one quite so soon 😶 Now it’s winter they don’t seem to be around, but we definitely need to brush up on which one are (if) dangerous and how to identify them... for safety’s sake!!!
Hi guys. Love the videos so far. We are looking at buying in Spain as well. Been a dream of ours for over 20 years. We are looking inland in Murcia / Alicante areas.
Hello from Barcelona. Congratulations for your commitment and thank you for your inspiring videos. My parter and I started the same quest to find a land to build a tiny house. So, your experience is very very useful. We are looking in central Catalonia and La Selva (between Barcelona and Girona). I also will follow your research on the bureocracy for building permissions. Regarding tiny houses we found Serena House as a good option but still looking for the place in a municipality that allows tiny transportable houses.
@@pochtekas Congratulations on both gaining your PhDs! A huge achievement 👏🏻👏🏻 We’re so glad you’re enjoying our videos and hopefully we’ll be able to share more useful information with you about tiny house opportunities! Can you ever re sale as a house? Or will it always be rural land with a storage / workshop ? Good luck with it all
Hi Jason. From what we’ve heard from neighbours, getting the certification is possible, but a long process. It’s something we’re looking in to. Congrats on the sale of your property and exciting new move. 💚
It’s not bad once you get used to it 😁 But it’s definitely a necessity -at least for us… we live 2.5hours away from the land, and it is at 20 minutes up a mountain track (some of it quite steep!)
