I have this box set on the way. It's the US and UK singles. Plus three exclusive UK E.P.'s. What makes this set special, is the sleeves and the labels are exact replicas of the 1960's London (US) and Decca (UK) releases. If the US and UK singles had different B-Sides, they give you both. They made a 1960's Rolling Stones 7" singles box set in 1982, but it had generic sleeves and generic labels. All in the same style. It only featured the 15 UK singles from the '60's, and not those three exclusive E.P.'s. Volume Two will cover the rest of the '60's, plus the two "Sticky Fingers" singles that Abkco has the rights to, plus the two from the Abkco "Metamorphosis" comp. I wish the sets would continue till the last 7" single in 1990. But, it's Abkco releases only.
Nostalgia works both ways. I remember discovering these recordings as a college student in the 80’s. Then really heard what they were singing about in the next phase of singles. Music made in the next stark times, unvarnished at a time when I was really discovering the darkness one experiences with self discovery and a realization of what they were about to comment on. Nothing like innocence lost when you are losing yours. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to educate oneself and have it reflected in culture. It just becomes more than a just a pop tune…I suppose that’s why we still love it, for the excess, indulgence and harsh realities. It’s why I love music.
I have almost every Rolling Stones 45s released in the 60s,which I bought as they were released over time...all on Australian DECCA and in brilliant condition considering their age...one memory was waiting up until midnight to hear WE LOVE YOU /DANDELION which I ordered from my local mom and pop record store the very next day....I have my copy of FORTUNE TELLER/SAD DAY...Australian only 45 release and collectible....oh,shut up David....NICE BOX Michael...WOW!!!!
I have every original UK and US release in this box, with the exception of Heart of Stone (US London), which is quite rare and worth more than any of the others in this release. The picture sleeve sells for about $300. As a comparison, an original Satisfaction picture sleeve sells for about $100-$150.
Thanks for showing this box Michael. Still undecided about getting it. ‘Satisfaction’ & ‘Get off my cloud’ are the US & UK versions with different B sides.
The UK singles were all issued in the Decca generic paper sleeves although the eps were of course issued as pic sleeve releases. I bought them all first time around . They sounded great then and they still do today.
Good to see this Stones 45s box set come to be. It's not easy to find these 7 inchers especially in mint condition at a garage sale lol. Not that long ago I purchased 45s box sets of the Beatles, Doors, and Creedence Clearwater Revival and was absolutely blown away! Thanks for the great video.
Bravo, bravissimo. Nádherný video. Jsem pamětník šedesátých let a Rolling Stones jsem poslouchal na RFE. Rádio Svobodná Evropa. Již jsem si tento Box set objednal. Děkuji a zdravím srdečně. From Czech Republic.
The Stones have always been a longevity band..Charlie Watts had a love for Jazz and Gretsch drums..he was underground about it bc of his status as a " rock " drummer..but much of his style and temperament was all about jazz..I've always been a Stones fan and got a chance to play at Woodys place in nyc many years ago..
Love these 45 box sets. They are lots of fun. Got the Beatles singles after the price dropped. Love that they are on quality vinyl unlike the originals which generally sound like crap because of that. Also the small spindle holes are convenient.
Great video, Michael. The first iteration of the Stones is still my favourite. There are duplicate singles in the box set because there were different b-sides on American versions versus British releases. Also, some songs were only released as singles in the US (e.g. "Tell Me") or the UK (e.g. "Little Red Rooster").
In Australia we usually got the UK releases and sometimes the US releases also EG we had both Tell Me and Little Red Rooster 45s....we were blessed in a way
Really glad you reviewed this. I’ve had it on preorder for several weeks and am hoping it arrives in time for my birthday. It looks really nice and I can’t wait until to hear it.
Fantastic video Michael, as always. I'm hoping to get this set in the next month or so, thanks for the in depth overview of this box set whilst I wait to get mine!
So glad to hear your good review of this box set. I ordered this yesterday on a whim and was not sure of the quality of the disc and sleeves. I have some of the originals from this set so I will be able to do a small comparison. As a preteen I bought 7" as I couldn't afford albums at that age so for a good fifty years I have kept them but sadly no sleeves. I do have the Beatles single box they put out a few years back which is a good set. Glad to hear a Vol. 2 will be forthcoming by The Stones. Thank you for your excellent review. Take care.
So many great songs! If you can find it, there is a terrific documentary, that was made in 1989 or so, it's called "25x5: The Continuing Adventures of The Rolling Stones"... And it shows a ton of their early history during the same period as these singles. It's really fun, and it's interesting to see how the media and their own management contrasted them with the Beatles to great effect, especially in those early years.
Damn, comes years too late. There were already in the same presentation as CD boxes, which I bought at the time. With the 7 "singles they have made it in 2 boxes, with the CDs there were three. But posters, postcards, booklet and the single cover are identical just a little smaller.
Hi Michael. Another nice video - though not a Stone fan so will pass. But is you like this you will love The Beatles singles box - what a trip! I am hoping that they do the same with the EP’s. Cheers Matt
Some points. Firstly the labels are not exact copies of the originals as ABKCO ( Allen Klein's Company) is plastered across the Decca labels which wasn't the case originally. Secondly the compression is key as to whether these new singles are in any way comparable to the originals which were made to "leap" out of a transistor radio. Thirdly you can obtain original copies of the U.K. singles in really good condition at sensible prices as they sold in droves.
2-3 years back I asked Neil Young on the NYA Times Contrarian to create a 7” box set. So many amazing picture sleeves including the Springfield. He commenting saying it was a wild idea. Hope it will eventually see the light of day. Not a fan of the generic sleeves however.
War also kein Fehler bzw. Unachtsamkeit beim Mastering.
Yeah i did it...... :-)
Hey Michael. I have a feeling you dig deep to come up with a reason to make things a ‘must have’. We are all addicted. But most of us probably have budgets that keep us from having more ‘must haves’. Enjoy!
The Beatles Singles Collection has all of the UK singles, but they used picture sleeves from around the world. I would have rather they kept them as they were. Even if that meant most wouldn't have picture sleeves. At least they would have been authentic, like this set.
Really getting burnt out with the stones money grabbing and pushing out anything they can on vinyl. To put this over priced ($145) 7" box set into perspective, the Stones in Mono cost $335 -$350. That gave you 16 LPs, full artwork for all covers, a pretty nice book the size of the records and a complete download of all the music like 144 tracks. It was the same quality as the Beatles in mono except for the book. Then the fact you were also paying for the exclusiveness of only 10,000 copies worldwide. The Stones need to stop with this garbage and get that studio album out that they have been working on for ten years or so.

I bought this box set and I am really enjoying it. It was good to hear your thoughts about this box. I can't wait for volume 2.

Great box, I liked it. Sounds good as well. Two of them were part of the 2010 box sets with the full catalog, but as 12 inch single.

18 Thousand, congratulations 🎂🎉🥂
thx Yaniv :-)
I have this on .mp3 but my hard drive failed. It'll be good to hsve physical copies which arrive on Thursday.

This is a mouth-watering litter box set man great presentation of it

As far as I know, for Decca and London, if label is blue means Mono and red Stereo. Thanks and greetings from Mexico. 😃👌
hi
Satisfaction b-side in UK was The Spider And The Fly, th US b-side was the West Coast Promo man.
by the way ... a nice set.
Hahaha, Bei den Ludwigsbewohnern ist jeden Tag Heiligabend! Very nice box indeed! Congratulations on the buy. Cheers!
Das stimmt 😅
The original 1st UK pressing of I Wanna Be Your Man/Stoned has Stoned Miss pressed as ‘Stones’

Great video, giving this set serious consideration. Anyone know how "limited" this edition is?
It's more about collecting to collect.
Hey Michael. I have a feeling you dig deep to come up with a reason to make things a ‘must have’. We are all addicted. But most of us probably have budgets that keep us from having more ‘must haves’. Enjoy!
Thanks for the review, how do you compare it to the Beatles singles collection for sound quality and packaging?
i dont have it

Humm, if you not careful dropping the tonearm, you could loose the tip on your $3200.00 moving coil cartridge.
The Rolling Stones haven't produced anything interesting for over 50 years but will no doubt be laughing all the way to the bank (again).
