I did not like season 2. Too much homo-sapiens humans. I think there was only the first episode with no humans. The first season gave us awesome trial/monster of the week episodes. Most of them could stand on their own. Season 2 was just all humans all the time. And all of the human civilisations were too advanced. The show is called PRIMAL not f-ing "Bronze age" or "Antiquity". If I'll find someone IRL to talk about this show I will make the shovinist joke that they introduced a woman to the show and that became its downfall :P
Primal theory eluded to this. The creator is exploring our ancient forgotten history and that will fly over most peoples heads. A cartoon about tartaria would be amazing.
Something so many shows do, that I'm not fond of, is they start out with the 'monster/adventure of the week'. That's what hooks so many people into the show. But then they toss that out for the long overarching storyline. Which can be good but..usually that's when I stop watching. It's just interesting how SO MANY shows do this at some point. I'll probably rewatch episodes of the first season of primal lots of times, but I don't really see myself going back to this second season.
And? Humans coexisting with dinosaurs is not realistic either. If anything, the show looks like it is set in an alternate universe where early history and civilization are merged together.
I did at first, but it fit the theme perfectly. The show was filled with the sudden and brutal destructive force of nature. There was no long goodbyes or happy endings. We experienced what Fang and Mira felt. Spear was fine one minute and gone the next. It's sad and I want more, but I'd wagger Genndy very intentionally ended the Spear and Fang story just the way it did.
@@DuGStp he did, I mean it stays in theme, but he said that if anything he wants primal to be an anthology, and doesn't want to come back to the characters
@@DuGStp I’m not so much talking about spears death which does fit in with the shows nature I’d agree. I’m more so referring to the final fight being kind of anticlimactic considering how much genndy had built it up.
nah it was definatly genddy they gave him all the time in the world hes done stuff like this before, instead of having the primal theory episode he coudve use that extra episode to better the pacing
@@DuGStp Really? I find the majority of the show has really good pacing where every single fight and moment were given enough time to develop, not a single time did I feel the show was rushed until the final episode. Hell, they spent like 2-3 episodes for the Red Mist arc and The Colossaeus arc each, and both of those arc got more emotions out of me than the finale which just made me feel nothing but awkwardness with what Mira did in the end.
If, IF there is a season 3, I'd want it to be about some of the things that were never explained and were just "well that happened" in the show, or things that are seemingly connected. The witch coven, for example. The witch leader was never defeated, she's still out there. They're still doing the rituals and growing their numbers. She's clearly not human, she has no face other than her glowing eyes and a mouth full of sharp teeth. She can transform herself into a being (which I believe to be her true form) that that literally take the lifeforce of a creature and make new life with it and all of this with seemingly no benefit to herself, other than a cult following, literally. The plague of madness, is it REALLY supernatural or is it just a normal, albeit VERY rare and very unlucky disease in this world? it seems to only be contagious though bites as nothing else gets infected via the tainted water source and the undead sauropod gets it's fluids all over the environment and even ON Fang and Spear several times. The parasaur got it from *somewhere* so what had it before that? How far does it spread (there's a theory that it's some sort of intelligent entity that only infects one host at a time and had the parasaur not been killed by the sauropod, it would have died anyway after biting it) The night stalker, we never get any concrete conclusion of what it was or why it was the way it was, it seems the black goo from the ape man episode is connected, so is the black goo a natural substance? That sort of thing.
I have a theory that the Night Feeder was actually used by the ape men in the colosseum type thing for fighting but managed to escape into the wild. That would explain why it turns into the monstrous form of itself. Maybe the black goo is in some kind of pool/spring area where it rises to the surface and the ape men go there to get the goo and when the night feeder escaped it learnt where to find and how to use the goo. Idk honestly
I was kinda hoping Mira’s moon deity would give Spear or her a hand in this fight. All the suffering they went through to have a family made out of all the Allies they made
Who knows, if Genndy is able to continue the show maybe he can write the moon god healing up spear after Mira bangs him. Maybe he’s just doing something in the village and that could’ve explain why he’s not in the last scene.
I was under the impression he was bestowed some kind of power to endure the flames but maybe it was all Spear, he's a hard bastard. If not I would wager we will see some of the moon spirit in his Daughter if we get a season 3, or perhaps Spear will reside in the moon spirits plane as he turned to worshipping it before his death?
Much like Samurai Jack, it ended on a rushed note. I get it, we still got a great show. I'd be interested if they did a Primal anthology. New characters and settings are fine by me.
All in all despite the ending feeling weird and uncomfortable during well.. THAT scene. It was also kind of beautiful because Spear gave Mira her life back and in return Mira gave Spear the only thing he ever wanted. Love and the feeling that he belonged and was wanted. Mira also carried on his bloodline so he wouldn’t die in vein. Takes a real homie to conceive your best friend’s child.
What is wrong with the letter "a" key tonight? First, we get "message parlor" instead of "massage parlor, then "wouldn't die in vein" instead of "vain".
According to Genndy, he felt that he already had "done it all" with Spear and Fang and doesn't want to continue with their story as he felt "it needed to end" and that if there is a season 3, he wants to turn Primal into an anthology series but he's not against revisiting Fang and Mira and the daughter she had with Spear if there is enough of an outcry.
Everyone is assuming it was rushed without any evidence because they didn't like that the fight was long enough and it wasn't a longer episode. It's 10 episodes like the last season with 20 minutes. There was literally nothing they could have done against the monster. Them going to Viking hell fanfic was pretty ridiculous to hear. First if all, Fang is an animal. Also, there seems to be different versions of heaven/hell in one universe. The witch was in heaven, and the Viking was going to Viking heaven before he was pulled to hell. It ended great and they don't need to Boruto this series. Let it end on top.
Doesn't mean they had to give us such a god damn disappointing ending, they could've like had it so spear somehow leveled the plain field then he "won" but in the last second he gets fatally injured.
If you go back to the part with spear and his father, right when the sabretooths attack you can see his father's eyes change color from black and white to red when he get's serious. His father knows his situation is pretty hopeless against all of them and fights to protect his son to the death. Spear undergoes this same change when he gets back up while on fire. It's an interesting parallel between how abrupt we see Spear's father die to how we see Spear die. Also the tree at the top of rock looks eerily pinkish like a Sakura
That could explain why he felt he was gonna die. It was only a matter of time because it happened to his dad. He’s been escaping death for long it was bound to caught up
The only way I can think of to improve this is in two ways: 1) Show a romance between Spear and Mira prior to the finale, so that last uncomfortable scene wouldn’t have had to happen. Instead we could’ve had Mira laying Spear’s hand on her stomach and him smiling in understanding before he passes away. and 2) Add a montage of Mira’s life after his death: her visibly pregnant and visiting Fang and the babies, her showing their Daughter to Fang and her babies, Daughter learning to roar like a Rex and bonding with Fang’s family (especially Fang’s Daughter) and maybe ending with a final narration from Mira using Spear’s drawings: “Your father was a mighty warrior, the last of his tribe, he saved me when I was stolen from my home. He crossed the ocean alongside Fang to save me, he sacrificed himself to save us from the Flames of Vengeance, he died before he could hold you but I know he holds you in heart just as I do my daughter” ... something like that. Thanks for the review Alteori and go hug your animal friends all 💙🐱💙
Your first point doesn’t make sense given that Mira’s gesture wasn’t a romantic one. Sure, there was potential for a relationship to form, but it never got a chance to blossom during the series. Mira saw Spear’s artwork on the wall and realised he longed for family and a living legacy, something only she could give him at the time. It was a gift to a dear friend more than anything else, and she wouldn’t have had a reason to have sex with him if he weren’t mortally wounded
@@LadyLeomon LMAOOOO I really have to talk about that scene LMAO, not just that but imagine the pain Spear must have been in or.... maybe.... ooooo I know why. I'll make a video
@@Alteori wow thanks Alteori! Not quite the video I was hoping to inspire, honestly I keep dreaming of a Shin Godzilla POV Part 2 where we see things unfold from Steven’s POV (a.k.a the only remotely smart character in the story) but if I gave you an idea then yay! Thanks for all your videos and thoughts as always Alteori 💙🐱💙
I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by that scene. I get the message and I get what Mira was doing butttttt it's a little weird, yeah? Spears burnt to a crisp and Mira's just like "Hell yeah! All in all I loved the ending. Yes, we all wished Spear got his happy ending...but the ending we got was more realistic. He fought a demon-empowered foe. Something far beyond his mortal prowess and might, he won...only because he also lost. THe viking got his vengeance and thus was damned to eternity, and Spear was defeated. Spear deserved happiness, but in the end he died as he lived-fighting for those he cared for. And in the end his legacy remained, through his daughter.
spear did get his happy ending he no longer has to fight for each day he is finally free from the violence and has moved on to the next life. all spear wanted was Fang and others to live and he got it. No clue if Moon God/Goddess afterlife is real but I hope it is so Spear and Mira can be together again.
Y’all remember Spear’s nightmare from Plague of Madness? His nose and scalp rotted off, in his real death they burned off. I hope he got Paradise and not Hell, I think he was just in his dealings despite being so much more ignorant than other people he’s encountered. Damn I love this show.
I personally want to see Spear and the Chieftain go through a River of Snakes thing only to realize that they need to work together to get out of Vidarr's Realm.
I personally would love this. I don't hate the Viking as much as other, so I kinda support him, because hes an antagonist, not a evil Monster ( or so I think, I don't believe they slaved people because, I really thouth they were under some elses control) So heres the thing, two morally grey characters helping and forgiving eachother seems like something neat, maybe they could even sabe the Viking's son, or IDK
Yeah that would’ve been awesome. Honestly I feel like the Viking chieftain and son were wasted potential as antagonist and parallels to Spear and Fang. Who knows maybe in an Alternate ending Vidarr’s realm Spear and Chieftain could work together to save their own souls as well as the Vikings son soul. Yes at the end of the day Spear and the Viking are obviously parallels of each other and wished it could’ve lasted longer than “Vidarr” episode.
@@koldosanchez2874 Yea I mean hey... What was the purpose of the big satan god thing sending the viking guy back to nature? Maybe to get Spear down there for no reason, one more soul to torment. But we know how badass Spear is, he'd fight his way out of literal hell I betcha. Specially if he gained an ally. lol Honestly I really feel like this could be a way to bring Spear back. It'd kind of be a fanservice thing making the show feel less "serious" but... hey, Spear would be back. lol Something along these lines has kinda been done in Pirates of the Caribbean after Jack Sparrow died. Idk how to feel about it still but like it's a similar caliber story to Primal in the sense that you gotta take things with large grains of salt anyway.
in a happier world Range doesn't die but learns not to eat people, Egg #3 doesn't die, Spear lives but with some burn scars and he gets to see his baby and Fang's family grow up 😭😭😭
I mean, Red wouldn't have NEEDED to learn not to eat people, just when it was appropriate to eat people, Fang very clearly was hunting and was going to kill Mira's THICC friend and the only reason she didn't is because Mira stopped her. So Fang still hunts and eats humans, despite seeing Spear and Mira as part of her pack.
@@blobbertmcblob4888 Red/Range attacked people after mating with fang, he clearly didn't do it for food since he didn't eat all that he killed , only when it was convenient (and fang wasn't fond of it, she attacked to defend red/range), he was "eliminating competition" and securing a better and easier life for fang and her young by killing off every other predator in the area, sadly though his first in line were the celts Fang clearly didn't want to hunt and eat Amara because lets be honest, if she wanted she'd be long gone 💀, I think she was just weary and tense after everything that happened, because.... Well... We had 4 episodes of reasons why fang would be aggressive towards humans I think fang was trying to either : scare her away or Actually tear her apart if she seemed like a threat. (Which loud screaming does sound threatening to an animal)
If anything, I feel him not facing the demon god was deliberate. It strikes me as one of those gods or supernatural beings that watch human events instead of fully intervening in mortal affairs. At most, they will grant powers out of some morbid curiosity, but they will not feel that the humans are worth their full attention.
I agree, for the most part! I feel like, by whatever machinations the horned god goes by, he wanted Spear dead. The viking just gave him an effective tool to exact his will, and since their goals aligned, a bargain was struck. If that's the case, then the horned god clearly has to abide by certain rules, since he can't kill Spear directly.
@@SirHugsalot13th Pretty much how I saw it: Surtr: You have done something that no other human has done in a long time. You have piqued my interest. I will help you achieve your little revenge, but in return, you will be forever indebted to me. Once the caveman and dinosaur are dead, I will claim your soul and you will never see your family again. Of course, this being a demon god, he could make it to where he goes against his deal hence claiming the Chieftain even though Fang was not killed.
I really wanted the black sapp that spears drank to awaking his crazy ass form again when he was fighting the slave guy. It would have been very cool and would have probably made the episode way better giving us a better fight. And spear being so big and just a pure brute would have probably survived. :(
A week ago, i was playing ark and got two trexes who were red and green, i called them Bucky and Athena and same goes to their primal counterpart and i think it fits perfectly.
I just wish Mira had made love with Spear the night BEFORE the whole incident happened. Like when she saw the paintings she realized she had feelings for Spear and they did the deed and made it official. Then when Spear was dying she would’ve just been there to comfort him and grieve what might’ve been. I think it would’ve made Spear’s death a lot more emotional and tragic. Plus I saw a lot of people saying Mira “raped” Spear because he technically couldn’t do anything even tho it was what he wanted. Just wish it had ended differently so there wouldn’t have been as much controversy about the ending.
I don't think Spear and Mira were ever in love. Good friends, yes, but not love. We never see them kiss, we never see them sleep (in a non-sexual way) together, we only see them hug a few times and hold hands a few times. When they have a reunion, it seems very constrained for two people in love. I think they were meant to be just friends. Spear's "Happy Ending" was only to continue his bloodline.
@@david2869 spear literally crossed an ocean for her....and she also seemed to care about him.... They could have rectified it by showing a couple scenes of them getting romantic
Genndy has said he's open to doing a season 3, but it would probably be different and more of an anthology series. So even if we don't continue the story we've had, we'll still get to see more of this wild world. Plus he has 2 other projects he's working on before he might work on Primal again. So it's not definitely renewed, but Genndy would love to do more with the series.
I made a character in Ark called Kluh who looks just like Spear, well Kluh was made four years ago and so I saw Spear as Kluh and visa versa.. so seeing the end of Spear hurt too much 💔
As simple as it may be. I was hoping for a happy ending. I wanted them to find a way to beat the viking guy and him and Mira to be together, then have a family, along with Fang and her kids. But yeah I very much so like your break down of how it should have ended per your preference.
The demon is the walking embodiment of death and I don't think Spear can escape that or fight his way out of it. It's like the debt that he has to pay for killing "innocent" people, children that he killed by accident. Spear can run but it will forever chase him until this debt is paid and I doubt Spear is willing to run. He fought the demon to the best of his mortal ability by facing death head-on without any hesitation. I think that's honorable.
I believe the director already said there will be another season. I also don't think Spear is dead. No way he got an off screen death. Just because he was burnt up does not mean he died. And if he did die he might come back to life since they have already shown with the Viking that death is not the end.
@@psychoticquads358 My theory is that Dexter's episode with Spear is season 3 episode 1 and Dexter sends Speak back to his timeline after healing him u up. This, however, randomly teleports Spear to his timeline but nowhere near his new family. And so, season 3 begins with Spear trying to find his family once again and eventually finds his way to them towards the season finale while meeting new allies. His daughter would also be highlighted and doing things out of the ordinary that would parallel her father.
I don't mind the ending, the combat should have been longer but I don't mind spear dying. just wish that their last night before the village is when they came together rather than when he was nearly incapacitated
I was completely expecting Mira and spear to have a relationship and I was really disappointed in the pity sex angle they used. But I understand if Genndy wanted to end the show on his own terms.
The thing is, if Spear had dodged the initial fire blast before he attacked the demon, he probably would’ve had a (slightly) higher chance of surviving the fight. He still would’ve been burned af, but I think he would’ve had a higher chance of surviving because he wouldn’t have been on fire as long as he was. I could be wrong, but c’mon Genndy, he dodged one fire blast, why couldn’t he have done it twice? 😑
IMHO Spear not a practitioner of the Viking’s religion. I don’t see the deity granting Spear its power. If any divine intervention were to happen I could see it coming from the god that Mira worships. It could see Spear and Fang as guardians/ protectors of its people. But I am glad no divine beings played into the defeat of the Viking I think it circles back to the meaning of the show. When threatened one will dig deep and tap into primal forces in order to defeat their foe to protect themselves and the one’s they love. That is what Spear did for Fang ,her children, and Mira.
Personally I'm a bigger Fan of adding to an ending than changing it entirely, for the most part I keep things the same the difference I would make. Firstly I would have made it so Spear and Mira are closer in terms of relationship maybe a short time skip but they be intermiate from the boat point, when they reach the island events are the same up till the point chieftain comes kills Spear, the only difference is this time it have a moment where Mira holds spears hand to her chest letting him know that his legacy is continuing so we avoid the awkward scene. After Spear dies, he wakes up in the hell afterlife, he finds the Chieftain being tortured above a pit of fire at this point Spear looks at him and reflect back on the chieftain and all the harm he did to him. Spear frees the chieftain and they both have a truce, they come face to face with the Vidarr and eventually take him down, once they do the Valkrye pick cheftian up and take him to Vallhala to see his family, Spear is offered a chance to see Mira and fang before he passes into the afterlife, he see all of them grown up with his daughter and they all smile before he fades into the afterlife to see his old family end.
Imagine, you finally, FINALLY get to be intimate with the person you love, but you can't even move your body to put in the effort to participate cuz you're just in too much pain. That scene made me cry cuz of that. I'm sure Spear really wanted to participate, and maybe it even hurt his ego that he couldn't. It's so depressing. That's how I saw it.
One of my issues with the ending was Mira having sex with a Kentucky fried Spear. I wish they did it before the battle so the death scene would feel less weird. But yeah I agree with you on the pacing, it should've had an extra episode to flesh things out
I also like to point out that when the Viking turned into this fire hall I did some research and he wasn’t just a fire demon hawk he was a revenant and if you don’t know what a resident is it’s a vengeful spirit
I personally didn’t like the ending but it was fitting for the series to end so abruptly. This series exemplifies the brutality and visceral nature of life. Thinking back to the first episode, the abrupt deaths of both spear and fang’s family lets us know what type of series this is going to be. No prolonged goodbyes to resolve conflict just pure unfairness of life. The first season is all about man vs nature and how hard life is and the dangers experienced in everyday life. Season 2 changes it’s themes by transitioning to man vs man by showing off how humanity is just as brutal as nature if not more so. However the suddenness of tragedy afflicted on characters is never lost. The fleeting, unfair nature of life is something that has been a constant theme throughout the series. The ending, while not the ending we wanted, is fitting for the finale of Primal. If Primal were to go on there’s a chance it could take up the whole man vs god conflict
As a student who has been in creative writing, I could actually see your ending as the true ending! I can't accept how rushed Genndy must've been, this show deserved a better ending. The original ending didn't do me justice. I need closure damn it!
We kinda got closure with Spears legacy living on. If anything I wanted this whole fire demon situation to have 2 parts. First part would be the tribe trying to help stop it and the second part would be about Spear meeting Vidaar.
I was hoping that maybe spear and the chieftan both pulled into hell, leaving Mira and fang shocked. Leaving it on a cliffhanger like that could set up series 3 really well.
I was expecting Mira’s whole village to burn with all her people. I think you made the god to nice and soft. It’s the god of revenge after all. I would’ve liked to for the Viking chieftain to see fang’s children and remember when his children were alive and relapse in killing them and instead rejecting the gift the god gave him because revenge wouldn’t solve anything and just been an endless cycle that would never end. And because of that the god would get angry and try to strike him down but would be stopped by Odin and his Valkyrie’s and send the chieftain of to Valhalla to finally be with family and his people in the afterlife. Just my thoughts on an ending. You should watch cyberpunk edgerunner!
I loved the ending minus 2 details. I wish Spear and Fang had a more heartfelt goodbye other than her screeching in agony and just storming off. If she could whine and moan and lament the death of her red rex mate, there’s no reason she couldn’t have done that for Spear. I would have loved if before Spear called for Mira, he could have attempted to reach out to touch Fang’s nose, and when she saw how weak he was, she leaned forward to touch his hand, before he seemingly passed out, THEN she runs off. My only other complaint is a petty one, and it’s the design of Fang’s red headed daughter (who I nicknamed Blood). She’s literally a copied/pasted design from her mother and I feel like that was a bit lazy. Her pattern or stripes should have given her more individuality, but thats just me. If by some miracle we get a season 3, I hope we get to see more of the personality and interactions of Spear’s daughter and Fang’s kids.
The merger at Warner Brothers caused legions of Cartoon Network shows to get cancelled and removed from HBO Max, but Primal and other Adult Swim shows are safe. Genndy says that Primal season 3 hasn't been greenlight yet, but he still intends to continue after he finishes two separate projects (a movie and another Cartoon Network series). However, the next season will not be about Spear and Fang but rather separate stories from across time like with the Primal Theory.
Hey, now I think of it, if there is a season 3, who’s to say that spear can’t make a comeback? I mean, like you say, he could still be taken down to the underworld. Season 3 can be like an A and B story, spear trying to escape the underworld, and his daughter trying to find a way to bring him back, knowing of his existence from his wall painting and knowing of the shadow demon via Mira telling them. Kind of like pirates of the Caribbean 3, where they bring Jack back from the locker. Or, seeming as the underworld is timeless, he could escape hell and find himself in a new time period or location I dunno, could maybe be a cool idea. I hope there’s a good season 3.
The ending is fine the way it was, quick? Yes, but there's only two things I'd change. 1: Spear goes to fight the demon alone. 2: Mira births brother, sister twins.
I have a question, Alteori. Since this might be the conclusion of Spear and Fang's story after season 2 finale of Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal, but what IF it'll be season 3 focusing on Spear and Mira's daughter and Fang's grown up offspring twins as a brand new story to begin a new chapter of Primal? Because I have a feeling that this series is not over yet. Or maybe Genndy will make a new title for season 3 of Primal that would be called "Tales of Primal" that focuses on every characters, I guess? I don't know yet. That's my thoughts and theories. But what do you think, Alteori? 🤔
I would love some kind of continuation seeing spear in the afterlife. Witnessing different heavens and hells and everything in between. Kind of like Dante’s divine comedy. Maybe he’d meet the moon god he worshipped with Mira briefly. Perhaps this journey could take him even to vidars realm where he’d help free the Viking and his son unto Valhalla. This is all just wishful thinking, I know. We never actually saw spear get buried, though. I’m sure the ceremony would have been intense. Mira would have told tales of her interpretation of spear’s journey and maybe all the things she didn’t see as well… like the zombie Dinosaur,ape-men,night-feeder, witches. I assume he scrawled this stuff on the walls too and we just didn’t see it in the frame. Maybe somehow they’d understand that spear was a lonely being that just didn’t get to know peace. In that way his daughter could understand who her father was a bit better… cause what he did in his life will echoe through eternity.
That gives me the crazy thought that the Viking isn't in Hell. If we're going off Norse mythology, the demon-like being with horns is a common depiction of Surtr, a fire giant, and he got dragged into Muspelheim, their realm, instead of Christian Hell. Norse Hel isn't on fire and theorized to be quite the opposite of a fiery hot pit of doom.
I absolutely hated the ending the show gave us, not only did it not pay off the most important bond of the show (Spear and Fang) but it made one of our main characters commit borderline necrophilia on a loved one at their most vulnerable which is at best disrespectful. Would have honestly preferred a cliffhanger ending for a non-existent third season than what we got simply because it wouldn't have given us this broken closure.
Personally, I would've loved to see Spear venture to Vidaars realm to save the Viking and his son's soul. Something to connect from one father to another on the love of their children. Maybe even team up against Vidaar! Imagine if Fang was with them and see a Viking riding a Trex! However, that's only if Spear didn't suffer the extreme burns he's received
Interesting idea for an ending. Yeah, I really wish Spear would've came across and even fight Vidarr. If anything I wish we could've atleast have another episode with whole tribe dealing with the fire demon. We didn't really get to see what this thing can do, I wanted them to display just how unstoppable it was. Hell, imagine if instead of spear burning to death he instead stole a bit of the fire demons power and was able to fight back.
I see a similarity between the Viking Chief and Kratos. Both of them wanted revenge and victory against their enemies, sought help from an evil deity, got what they wanted, but getting it cost them their freedoms
Genndy wanted to make an anthology series with different characters. Like he said in his interview Spear and Fang story is now over. And wanted to do another character in this new anthology of Primal.
Hey Alteori, do you think they should heal up Spear or revive him? Fans theorized that maybe the Moon God heard the prayers of Mira after she banged him and finally healed up Spear. And maybe the reason he’s not in the last scene is because he could be doing really anything. He could still be resting in order to fully recover his limbs after being healed from the god or maybe he’s just late to the scene. I personally don’t like the fact of killing off Spear so early in the series.
I thought the ending was happily ever after but I realized this is adult swim not Cartoon Network but that one part in episode 10 will haunt me forever
I was kinda hoping for Mira's god to be able to bring Spear back. They worship the moon and among other things it's said that the phases of the moon can be a symbol for "immortality and eternity". The moon is also closely connected to water, which would be the opposite to fire which would've made a nice contrast to Vidarr's fire powers.
I agree with a lot of what you said. I also think the viking father needed more closure in his story. Hearing your story ideas actually reminds me of your pov stories. Those first drew my attention to your channel.
I don't think me and you watched the same episode or maybe you were confused by it, the reason spear looks sad or lost is cause HE IS he just went from surviving to live and facing constant danger to finally finding a place that he doesn't need to feel that way anymore, and he doesn't know how to process it he thought that he would eventually die out there like an animal like his father, that's why he drew his life on the wall it brought him some comfort, and did you really think he would run from the Flame monster? No he stayed and fought it was he going to win? Heck no it's literally a dude on fire he died like he thought he would but it wasn't like an animal he sacrificed himself for fang and Mira, this final episode was so beautiful and I guess maybe rushed but it's was beautiful
I never said it wasn't beautiful. I just said it felt rushed. I even mentioned what you said about Spear not belonging or fitting. The wonderful thing is that art can be interpreted in many different ways
Maybe I'm just corny but I didn't want spear to die. Especially not after Fang finally got her babies and the dynamic that could of been explored of them growing up along side Spear and Mira's children. I feel like the demon Viking could have been defeated by some other means rather a head first sacrifice(Don't ask me how). We've been shown that Spear sometimes (not very often) has to think about how to tackle a situation rather than just charging it down, like the night feeder and the madness long neck(granted he just ran from that last one but still, he had to change his approach. Rightfully so.) 100% I did feel like this was rushed and thus Mira's actions at the end seem unearned/out of order and just felt wrong to me.
Nothing corny about that. Spear wanted a family, he could've had that and actually been alive to experience it. It would be a good payoff, but because it's perceived as "cliche" writers seem against and actually satisfying ending.
I feel like season 2 would’ve been best suited for a “Finale Season” if you will like season 3 or 4. I thought it was good it just felt to soon for it. Like discovering other humans and crossing the world feels almost as if it should’ve been like an Endgame thing for Primal. Definitely felt like they could’ve done a few more seasons in Spear and Fang’s land and we see their bond continue to strengthen as they faced new challenges in their harsh environment.
Hi Alteori ✌🏻 I just finished you're entire Primal playlist (all 65 videos 😂) it took me a nice 4 days 🤣 but it was awesome 🔥 I love youre insights on the character's and you're theories 😌 (seriously you hooked me with you're Night Feeder video's 😂) overall i just wanted to say that you're content is really entertaining 🔥 and keep up the great work 💪🏻 Btw...im looking forward to you're video on "Mira's Decision" 👀
It was honestly too rushed IMO like the Samurai Jack ending. Like Spear having a daughter with Mira was beautiful, aside from Spear being burnt to a crisp like Freddy Krueger. How would his...spear still be functional to get it on with Mira? Honestly would have written them initiating maybe while they had an intimate moment before he faces the Chieftan.
After watching both endings, I'm not really sure how I feel about 'Sym-Bionic Titan' coming back or whatever because I really don't like rushed endings.
Genndy said one of the reasons the fight was so short is because “He wanted it to be realistic because there was no way they could beat this threat and it would make short work of them” but at the same time nothing in this show is realistic and I think he was just pressed for time. Yes Spear and Fang were gonna lose this fight, but I still wanted to see it last a bit longer.
He's the one who set it up that way to begin with. It's like he had no intention of ever writing an ending and was just going by the seat of his pants episode by episode. I never expected a happy ending. This just felt so lazy to me. Like it was slapped together to say "shut up and enjoy it whether you like it or not, loyal fans". I bought season 1 FOUR times because I wanted to support it. And I'll buy season 2. But good luck getting me to pay 1 cent for some anthology thing about characters I don't give a crap about. I'm done even if the show does come back with different settings and people.
You do realize cartoon worlds have their own rules of realism right? There's also levels of realism. He's speaking realism in regards to the show. Go re-watch all the fights they've been through, and tell me where something was uncanny, or just straight up didn't make sense in terms of realism...
@@Kcashgunnacharacters have fallen like 50 ft out of the sky and been able to move onward, characters have gotten hit by spears or cut only to not be wounded AT ALL in the next shot, etc. Any sense of "realism" the show establishes has no problem breaking it whenever it's convenient
The final season of Primal reminded me of the final season of Samurai Jack. Completely rushed, without ever capturing its true potential. Loved your version of the ending better.
As a 56 year old dude who’s enjoyed animation his whole life, it’s so nice to see somebody who really appreciates it! GT’s Primal had to have been one of, if not the best animated series I’ve had the pleasure to view. Went by too quickly but the sudden ending didn’t ruin anything for me. While watching the finale, I totally forgot that it was a finale so I was shocked, sad and happy about it all at once. Not many shows have had that effect on me so I personally can’t complain. I liked your fantasy ending and maybe that would be the type of ending we’d wish for but Primal, like it’s primal world, gave us an ending we didn’t see coming. Really like your videos and commentary!
The dramatic leap from pre history to a mish mash of bronze era and even medieval European interaction was just kinda nutty to me. The fact that there's so many humans with such highly developed societies and economies and such in season 2 was weird. It was like Spear and Fang got brought into the future by millions of years. I agree the ending was kind of anti climactic, and as a personal note I found it very weird that the humans they fought in this season were able to go toe to toe with Spear physically. The viking Lord for one sure, but definitely with the evil queen it just didn't seem realistic how the choreography was portrayed. Being a skilled warrior is one thing, but do you have ANY idea how physically strong and durable Spear would be in comparison to a human being? It'd be like trying to fist fight a literal gorilla, it's just not possible for a human body to do. The evil queen being the one fighter Spear can't best in one on one combat seems very strange to me when can literally tank arrows and spears and everything else. You would HAVE to use weapons to fight him effectively, I don't care how highly trained you are. Skills or not kicking him or trying to chokehold him like she did just wouldnt work lol. He's too physically strong and durable, you'd break your leg trying to kick him, or he'd just grip your leg in his hands and snap it with raw strength alone. Even if he didn't overpower your chokehold, his neck is too short and stout to be able to properly choke him with any effectiveness. Idk that kinda pulled me out of being invested in the final showdown.
True and i have to agree but his legacy lives on and it ends on a stupid cliffhanger and leves you suspense but it opens up to so many possibilities of a season 3
I feel like the ending fits the tone of the show 'Primal' as it's called makes sense for it to end with procreation and the continuation of Spear's line. They could have handled it much better tho.
I thinky the show soudnt have ended and still have gone on . Spear and fang realized they didnt fit in with mira's tribe and leave back to their old home. I think it should've ended like this
There should have been time for Spear and Mira to explore a romance and get pregnant before the final fight... Spear should have had time to build up a new life to sacrifice himself for.
@@Alteori yeah it really is very very wholesome. BTW I love your content. And I have mixed feelings about the primal ending too I guess it's a passing of the torch kind of thing when you think about it.
personally I would have condensed colossus into 2 parts to make the ending a two parter and used the extra runtime to extend the fight with the same outcome.
This ending was not great imo. Riding his burnt hotdog was just....weird im ok with spear dieing but perhaps have them do the deed b4 he got cooked alive?
I and my mum just watched season 2 of this show that started out really interesting and cool. Both of us were disappointed with the direction it took, away from the supernatural elements and such, and became just convenient tragedy after convenient tragedy, fight scene after fight scene. Bronze and iron ages, Satan, demon viking Hulk, Genndy loves and is goody-two-shoeing for vikings, Cleopatra, ancient Egyptians running around conquering places, random English men episode, the t-rex was pregnant for like a couple of days before it laid eggs in a scene that I wondered how necessary it was to be included, Spear feeling out of place all of the sudden. I liked that it had an actual plotline, but it didn't have anything else. But that finale... Oh, man! Sweet? Dude, let me write to you, Jonah Jameson laughing sums up both my and my mum's reactions! Mira riding a half-dead Spear was the funniest shɪt ever! I mean, I was prepared for some sad ending, after I read a comment about how Genndy has a problem with happy endings. I was guessing that everybody would die, everyone would die except the baby t-rexes who would later die of starvation, the baby t-rexes would, then Fang, then Spear of despair, but never would I have guessed crispy snu snu! XD Thanks, Genndy, for the wonderful comedy! Also the t-rex mourned the loss of the red t-rex more than she mourned Spear's death. I mean, not the first time someone's animal companion felt more attached to their ticket to spawning than their sapient companion and friend, *cough Hiccup's Barney the dragon. Also-also, "Spear" and "Fang". What inspirational, creative names!
Somehow Alteori made an ending that was happier and yet EVEN MORE dark and depressing than the ACTUAL ending. That was some next anime level ending there Alteori lol I liked it. Overall I’m just glad the series had an actual ending and didn’t leave us with a cliffhanger.
Thanks and my version is VERY anime I'm aware 🤣 but they did jump the shark with the fire water walking dude. Man this show was amazing and I am so lucky to have seen it
@@Alteori Very true. Hopefully there will be a season 3 at some point in the future even if there is no Spear.. and Genndy has other projects he’s working on so I’m looking forward to those as well. But yeah Primal was my fav
I think that the “end” we see is just a dream that spear has while in his coma from the fire and at the beginning of the next season we see spear in the coma and everybody looking at him and each episode switches between dream and reality . Then a time skip happens and spear is healed and wakes up at the end of the season
The ending of this season cemented the assurance this show can carry from the beginning of time, to the far distant future. The themes, factions, and existence of gods, zombies, and other supernatural factors gives me flashbacks to adventuretime, god of war, and conan the barbarian. The factions spear and fang encountered had genuine effects on their societies and outlooks towards others. So Spear and Mira's daughter is the new Champion of their Moon God, with the time that passed we can see how the factions conquered by Spear & Fang may have turned to vengeful ways and now fall victim to the influence of Vidaar. The Celt faction and the survivors of the egyptian slave ship will likely be factions that at least respect and remember the legacy of spear and fang so they would help against vidaar's forces. The time jump episode that went to the gentlemen fighting a escaped convict may not have a lot of context now, but going back in potential future seasons and having that be some crazy revelation arc we just didn't get to yet is worth it. I don't know the politics behind CN / AS, and how they manage their shows but I am willing to bet any streaming service or network would be willing to keep Primal going if whoever's in charge of renewing the show is criminally insane and senile enough to not bring it back for more seasons lmao. I liked that they didn't start off right after he passed away for the ending either, if they come back for more seasons that leaves some filler content for Mira and Fang raising their kids. And just a random thought but I would adore the idea of having an episode that makes Spear the canonic "caveman" from dexter's lab series, mixing both shows and blessing us with a time travel arc of Dial M for Monkey!! ( OG's know what I'm talkin about :D )
This is great! But I have an idea could you make a video that is a pov of one of the jeagers in pacific rim like mabey gipsy danger? Only if you want to of course!
2:43 maybe that kid that look older in the hunting scene was already a kid that died. I wouldn’t be surprised because people back then would have multiple children back in the day so they at least one or two of them would survive. Maybe that was a son that he took hunting and lost his life too. It seems like in this show that child’s death could happen at any time, especially by accident. The little girl that fell off the cliff, the the egg be crushed, the little boy tried to fight and hit his head, the kidnapping of that African man’s daughter, the killing spear and fangs children…. This show really talks about how fragile that and vulnerable children are especially to passing during this time… 😢
The god is called Vidarr (the Norse god of vengeance ). So once Spear was dead the revenge was complete… but we were lead to believe it was revenge on fang too.
While I get what some people are saying, I didn’t dislike season 2. It just felt too soon for it. I think the plot for the season with meeting Mira and discovering other human civilizations would’ve felt better suited for like season 3 or 4, and the second or third season would still be focused on the island where they would continue to fight other creatures and beasts. But Genndy knew the show ran the risk of being canceled so he decided to skip ahead. It’s a shame really.
That's a fair point
Definitely agree.
I wanted more dinosaur stuff in a show supposed to be about dino’s, not vikings and the slave trade or Norse hel gods.
I definitely agree that this felt way too rushed and it more than likely was more of a corporate issue than anything else on genndy’s part.
Genndy does have a history of rushing the end of a series, just look at Samurai Jack. Jack didn't even say goodbye to the Scotsman, his best friend.
How far does it spread (there's a theory that it's some sort of intelligent entity that only infects one host at a time and had the parasaur not been killed by the sauropod, it would have died anyway after biting it)
The night stalker, we never get any concrete conclusion of what it was or why it was the way it was, it seems the black goo from the ape man episode is connected, so is the black goo a natural substance?
That sort of thing.
I have a theory that the Night Feeder was actually used by the ape men in the colosseum type thing for fighting but managed to escape into the wild. That would explain why it turns into the monstrous form of itself. Maybe the black goo is in some kind of pool/spring area where it rises to the surface and the ape men go there to get the goo and when the night feeder escaped it learnt where to find and how to use the goo. Idk honestly
This is what i want to see in season 2
I really wanna see throwback on these enemies and mysterious entities that still never been never fully explored.
The night feeder is made out of oil
I also want to know why the big demon wanted the chieftain to kill Spear and Fang.
@@mr.milkman3893 OMG! You are right! We never actually see him dead
Moon deity should have been played..
Having recently seen Samurai Jack, I don't think of that ending nearly as rushed as Primal.
@@grievtheious2452 that would have been dumb. How exactly would he have done that?
If you go back to the part with spear and his father, right when the sabretooths attack you can see his father's eyes change color from black and white to red when he get's serious. His father knows his situation is pretty hopeless against all of them and fights to protect his son to the death. Spear undergoes this same change when he gets back up while on fire. It's an interesting parallel between how abrupt we see Spear's father die to how we see Spear die.
Also the tree at the top of rock looks eerily pinkish like a Sakura
That could explain why he felt he was gonna die. It was only a matter of time because it happened to his dad. He’s been escaping death for long it was bound to caught up
The only way I can think of to improve this is in two ways:
1) Show a romance between Spear and Mira prior to the finale, so that last uncomfortable scene wouldn’t have had to happen. Instead we could’ve had Mira laying Spear’s hand on her stomach and him smiling in understanding before he passes away.
and
2) Add a montage of Mira’s life after his death: her visibly pregnant and visiting Fang and the babies, her showing their Daughter to Fang and her babies, Daughter learning to roar like a Rex and bonding with Fang’s family (especially Fang’s Daughter) and maybe ending with a final narration from Mira using Spear’s drawings: “Your father was a mighty warrior, the last of his tribe, he saved me when I was stolen from my home.
@@craftgames8970 but then that scene makes ZERO sense because Spear was burned EVERYWHERE so that Mira shouldn’t have even been able to accomplish it!
@@LadyLeomon LMAOOOO I really have to talk about that scene LMAO, not just that but imagine the pain Spear must have been in or.... maybe.... ooooo I know why. I'll make a video

I GET what the story wanted to tell, Spear felt like he'd failed, he had no children, no legacy, something very important to people back then, he had a "family" but he had no *Family* and Mira wanted to give him that, sure and yes, Primal has ALWAYS been an adult gorey show, but there's something about what could very well be taken sexual assault that I feel like should be taken more seriously by more people.
Spear died doing who....I mean what he loved. That was about as happy as it could be.
Right I didn't mind the ending I soon as I saw spears back story I knew he was gonna die
spear did get his happy ending he no longer has to fight for each day he is finally free from the violence and has moved on to the next life. all spear wanted was Fang and others to live and he got it.
No clue if Moon God/Goddess afterlife is real but I hope it is so Spear and Mira can be together again.
Exactly! You hit the nail on multiple points. Couldn’t have said it better.
👌🏿this
Y’all remember Spear’s nightmare from Plague of Madness? His nose and scalp rotted off, in his real death they burned off. I hope he got Paradise and not Hell, I think he was just in his dealings despite being so much more ignorant than other people he’s encountered. Damn I love this show.
I personally want to see Spear and the Chieftain go through a River of Snakes thing only to realize that they need to work together to get out of Vidarr's Realm.
that would have been better to see them fight monsters in Vidarr's realm.
I personally would love this. I don't hate the Viking as much as other, so I kinda support him, because hes an antagonist, not a evil Monster ( or so I think, I don't believe they slaved people because, I really thouth they were under some elses control)
So heres the thing, two morally grey characters helping and forgiving eachother seems like something neat, maybe they could even sabe the Viking's son, or IDK
Specially if he gained an ally. lol
Honestly I really feel like this could be a way to bring Spear back. It'd kind of be a fanservice thing making the show feel less "serious" but... hey, Spear would be back. lol
Something along these lines has kinda been done in Pirates of the Caribbean after Jack Sparrow died. Idk how to feel about it still but like it's a similar caliber story to Primal in the sense that you gotta take things with large grains of salt anyway.
@@koldosanchez2874 Spear and the viking are not morally grey. Spear is morally good, the viking is evil.
On one hand, I can understand your disappointment of the ending but on the other I'm glad that this show got a ending instead of being cancelled.
in a happier world Range doesn't die but learns not to eat people, Egg #3 doesn't die, Spear lives but with some burn scars and he gets to see his baby and Fang's family grow up 😭😭😭
I mean, Red wouldn't have NEEDED to learn not to eat people, just when it was appropriate to eat people, Fang very clearly was hunting and was going to kill Mira's THICC friend and the only reason she didn't is because Mira stopped her. So Fang still hunts and eats humans, despite seeing Spear and Mira as part of her pack.
@@blobbertmcblob4888
Red/Range attacked people after mating with fang, he clearly didn't do it for food since he didn't eat all that he killed , only when it was convenient (and fang wasn't fond of it, she attacked to defend red/range), he was "eliminating competition" and securing a better and easier life for fang and her young by killing off every other predator in the area, sadly though his first in line were the celts
Fang clearly didn't want to hunt and eat Amara because lets be honest, if she wanted she'd be long gone 💀, I think she was just weary and tense after everything that happened, because.... Well... We had 4 episodes of reasons why fang would be aggressive towards humans
I think fang was trying to either :
scare her away
or
Actually tear her apart if she seemed like a threat.
What I imagined it to be, why give that one Viking some power, for fun of it, so one he got wrecked the funs over now get back in hell
@@SirHugsalot13th Pretty much how I saw it:
Surtr: You have done something that no other human has done in a long time. You have piqued my interest. I will help you achieve your little revenge, but in return, you will be forever indebted to me. Of course, this being a demon god, he could make it to where he goes against his deal hence claiming the Chieftain even though Fang was not killed.

I really wanted the black sapp that spears drank to awaking his crazy ass form again when he was fighting the slave guy. @@The.Feuer.Mayday yeah, its weird
Me too. I always prefer happy endings but I respect gennedy’s decision.
dude it's a freaking fire demon! spear is a beast but isn't invincible.
It's so unfortunate that the finale had to be rushed because of the warner stuff going on. But, besides that this season overall was great!
I don't think it was just the Warner situation, Genndy has a history of rushing endings. Just look at Samurai Jack.
@@jaylenharris343 they did that show dirty as fuck
I believe the director already said there will be another season. I also don't think Spear is dead. No way he got an off screen death. Just because he was burnt up does not mean he died. And if he did die he might come back to life since they have already shown with the Viking that death is not the end.
Maybe this is where Dexter takes Spear back to his lab and heals him?
But Spear was known for going berserk and straight up charge his foes.
Mans don't dodge he tanks damage
I might make a video re animating a new ending to this season because DAMMIT this show Deserves to go out in a blaze of glory
Nice! I started thinking of re-editing it😂
It did.
Spear was successful in protecting Mira and Fang.
That's all he cared about.
Spear won even though he shouldn't have.
@@CordellPotts true but I mean as a blaze of glory that’s not as rushed so it has a bigger impact
The ending you described would have been absolutely legendary.
Good take.
Very good take even. The show isn't about giving the characters the theoretical best endings.
They wasted precious time with "the primal theory" episode, should've used that space for a 2 part finale.
10/10 would love for you to narrate your own ending to the show over on your other channel!!
Just fond you're channel again, and OMG I love your new fox design!
Or, seeming as the underworld is timeless, he could escape hell and find himself in a new time period or location
I dunno, could maybe be a cool idea. I hope there’s a good season 3.
Nah this is one of those things i say just leave it alone this a good ending to the series
@@johnny44937 Good ending, rushed execution
I really want to say thank you because I would’ve never known what primal is that I’ve never would’ve loved the show as much as I do thanks to you
I would love some kind of continuation seeing spear in the afterlife.
It threw me thru a loop when Mira sat down on Spear's Ummm Spear as he was dying...my mum was watching it and everything...lol
Wouldnt be disney trauma bonding without an incomplete family unit. Theres only 1 season of primal, you cant change my mind.
🎯🎯🎯 couldn't agree more
I thought the ending was happily ever after but I realized this is adult swim not Cartoon Network but that one part in episode 10 will haunt me forever
I'm a 43yr old father of a 9yr old daughter and lets just say when she cried over Spear so did Daddy!!!😭
Love ur vids
I really do wish it ended like this man.
I just started hysterically laughing when Mira got on top of him at the end. 🤣

@@icebearnicho8256 do you have any examples of this ? Because I for sure don’t remember any continuity errors like that
The final season of Primal reminded me of the final season of Samurai Jack.
I think it should've ended like this
“I’m gonna send shit after them, every waking moment” LOL
There should have been time for Spear and Mira to explore a romance and get pregnant before the final fight... Spear should have had time to build up a new life to sacrifice himself for.
I love the cute music in the background at the ending Alteori
it is pretty :D
@@Alteori yeah it really is very very wholesome. BTW I love your content. And I have mixed feelings about the primal ending too I guess it's a passing of the torch kind of thing when you think about it.
The man fought against all types of enemies and destroyed massive amounts of beings to protect his dino and the woman. He fought for peace literally
personally I would have condensed colossus into 2 parts to make the ending a two parter and used the extra runtime to extend the fight with the same outcome.
This ending was not great imo. Riding his burnt hotdog was just....weird im ok with spear dieing but perhaps have them do the deed b4 he got cooked alive?
these is the ending i wanted
XD
Thanks, Genndy, for the wonderful comedy!
You have a great imagination. Your ending was very creative.
I'm at four minutes, fifteen seconds and my eyes are functioning oddly...
Yeah we all got GOT in the end. I wanted Range to be with his family and it was because of Warner Bros financial problems.
What did spear say to Mira after they smashed?
“Keep the tip.”
I wonder if it's possible for us to one day get, idk, a "Director's Cut" version of the final episode where it actually ends in a satisfying way
Fan Fiction has been "filling in the blanks" since the storyteller's tale was "too fast/sad/unsatisfying."
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.
I think that the “end” we see is just a dream that spear has while in his coma from the fire and at the beginning of the next season we see spear in the coma and everybody looking at him and each episode switches between dream and reality . Then a time skip happens and spear is healed and wakes up at the end of the season
I hope so
The ending of this season cemented the assurance this show can carry from the beginning of time, to the far distant future.
But
I have an idea could you make a video that is a pov of one of the jeagers in pacific rim like mabey gipsy danger? Only if you want to of course!
2:43 maybe that kid that look older in the hunting scene was already a kid that died. I wouldn’t be surprised because people back then would have multiple children back in the day so they at least one or two of them would survive. Maybe that was a son that he took hunting and lost his life too. It seems like in this show that child’s death could happen at any time, especially by accident. The little girl that fell off the cliff, the the egg be crushed, the little boy tried to fight and hit his head, the kidnapping of that African man’s daughter, the killing spear and fangs children…. This show really talks about how fragile that and vulnerable children are especially to passing during this time… 😢
I think the reason why Mira multiplied with spear without a calculator is because she wanted spears legacy to continue 💜
In some weird way that sounds almost like something from Ghost Rider. You imagine Spear being Ghost Rider while Fang is on fire being a badass.
The god is called Vidarr (the Norse god of vengeance ). So once Spear was dead the revenge was complete… but we were lead to believe it was revenge on fang too.
I think the episode primal theory plays into the way spear went ballistic even when he was on fire
