- he Battle of Ramales, a battle of the First Carlist War, occurred at Ramales in Cantabria on May 12, 1839. The successful Liberals were commanded by Baldomero Espartero, the Carlists by Rafael Maroto.

Guns give a morale debuff. They will waver, not brake (except if you let them be shot the whole time). They are using MP stats, while SP stats are a bit different. I posted the replay. I am the creator of the mod. There will be a campaign (in early alpha for the moment) soon for the public. I can always send it to you, so you can check it if you want.

2:46 I think it would be best to call the Spanish with the Spanish Empire flags the Carlists and the Spanish with the Rojigualda (the modern Spanish flag) either the Liberals or the Bourbons (since the royal family the liberals supported were a cadet family of the Bourbons). The war was de jure a war of succession rights but was de facto Catholic conservatives with the Carlists vs. liberals and republicans with the Bourbons.
Both had Bourbons haha.

The Carlist wars is not that confusing honesty, King Ferdinand VII with the liberal government changes the succession law to allow women to inherit if the King has no sons. This meant that Ferdinand's brother Carlos was no longer the heir but instead Ferdinand's oldest daughter, Carlos never accepted this change so when Ferdinand died he claimed the throne as Carlos V and tried to take power. And his descendants tried doing it after him as well

Liberalism still means what it meant in the 19th century. The Carlists were more a reactionary separatist movement. After years of fighting with Napoleon The Spanish and the Russian fought patriotic wars to keep him out of wider European affairs but his ideas were taking hold that would result in military rebellions in 1820 in Spain and 1825 with the Russian Decembrists.
The liberals were still the ones pushing for change and modernization and improved literacy rates and wider participation by the poorer sections of society so basically the exact kinds of policies stances that erode traditional power blocs.
For further videos about this war I would recommend to use the term "isabelinos/cristinos" to refer to liberals.

Splitting hairs but: the meaning of "liberal" hasn't changed at all. It still means exactly what it did before: a moderate person with democratic (not the party) leanings who believes individual private ownership should be the basis of economic activity.
What has changed is the way that term is politicised, and in the same way the term "socialist" will always mean the same thing - except when somebody calls you a "socialist" they're just as likely using it as some sort of braindead insult - "liberal" is thrown around by people who don't know what "liberal" means (often because they are... liberals...).
Yup, most people who throw around "socialist" just use it as a catch-all term for things they don't like or agree with.

If it was “Liberal Spain” , the fight would be about how many thousands of genders there are. (To an american pov, hearing “liberal” and thinking californian)
Back then it meant, courtesy for the people, now it means affirmation for all indulgences.
I mean, ultimately a core tenant of liberalism is individual freedoms of association and identity, so having thousands of genders kind of does fit that bill.

We in fact do have restrictions on specific indulgences considered criminal and rightfully undesirable, Freedom unchecked is easily subverted and leads to either chaos or madness. The idea that liberalism is this all encompassing, unquestionable good is naive at best.
@@amongdrip8073 Those are extreme examples of criminality though. Also, one cultures "undesirable" could be another's desirable. Identifying as a gender (which is objectively a social construct) does not cross any of those lines, as it does not inherently impede on anyone else's freedoms.
Liberalism might not be perfect, but it's certainly the best way, at this current juncture in history, to organize a complex, globalized, and diverse society. All the other forms have either faded into the dust heap of history, or proven to be failures.
