@@froggyspritelike decoration flower hard foam. It breaks easy but can hold up for a few days… first material I used. Bad choice but was decent practice for carving a shape.
Foam clay is safe to use on top of EVA foam (which is what it's normally used for) so I will not mark it as an unsafe material. I use it myself for organic shapes on EVA foam skulls. But I agree that it shouldn't be used alone for a head base, it's a material that are for smaller details and most times combined with EVA foam
Don’t use 5 more things: 1.) Aim-9L sidewinder all aspect IR air-to-air missiles 2.) Bleach 3.) C4 bombs 4.) a Samsung smart refrigerator 5.) Canada Hope this helps :3
i use cardboard for masks that I'll probably only use a couple times and then keep them on display. it's fine for that but to frequently wear it is a hazard and it'll likely fall apart.
For the paper mache part, on the inside, if you cover it with tape or clay, then the black mold will have no space to grow, stopping the place mold. I put tape all over the inside and it worked! No black mold :)
Cardboard and papermache can be used for temporary wear masks if you coat the inside with some kind of sealer like shelack or packing tape. I would not sell these however. But for personal use for a wear or two, I don't see the harm.
@@MugiwaraCosplay It will for short term use. Look up venetian papier mache masks. They are made of paper mache and sold both for wearing and as collectors pieces. As I mention; short term use is ok. It will take a lot of moisture to cause damage or a risk to health.
Another thing about styrofoam, when heated it will release toxic chemicals! So don’t heat up styrofoam - and also, if you get food to go, put it on a plate before reheating it :) chemicals and food shouldn’t mix
Imma try using packaging foam i got from helping unpack guitars The foams ok not bad but the foam bags were so soft and not too fragile it could easily get a tear but thats why they invented tape
Cardboard can be an ok fursuit head material as long as you have a liner and have it well ventilated. If you wear it often, make sure to sanitize it after each use, same goes for if when you wear it you sweat a lot. I’ve made a cardboard head, and it actually is pretty sturdy! Still have to be carful, as it’s kinda fragile.
@@istolethispfpsorry485Disinfectant spray also works and there's some that has barrier properties too to help. Tho sealing everything first should help keep mold away.
Before you go to metal's for your projects, keep three things in mind. 1. Thin plates can bend and dent easily, running a lot of Work with one mistake. 2. The thicker the material, the heavier it gates, and remember, you will have a lot of material pressing on your neck, so don't overestimate how much you could carry. 3. Lightweight Metals, like Aluminium and Titanium, are very hard to work with, especially in this dimensions, when working im a home grade workshop. Best solution, using a almost completely hollow endo skeleton out of a hard plastic and then a thin layer of metal on top, using cloth for the inside of the mouth part's.
Thanks for the info! I do have a bit of styrofoam on my head but it's just a detail and it's painted so I'm not too worried (the character has a gem on their forehead made out of styrofoam)
Some of these are a tad misleading, albeit prolly not intentionally. Lots of people make paper fursuits nowadays that are protected by various materials that stop it from absorbing sweat. A lot of young furs make these since they're cheaper and it's honestly super impressive. If done correctly they can be perfectly fine, but the paper (or plaster, paper mache, or cardboard) should never directly touch your skin (or ideally be exposed to the air)
I haven’t made any fursuits nor am I ANY sort of expert. But from an artist’s perspective, I’d say it’s fine to use cardboard as a base, just make sure it’s easy to remove afterwards!
I did make a cardboard box head for my sona before i started the real deal. Its in the style of Crumb’s head so-its got nice airflow and an open bottom. He only gets used for short periods tho
Also, with styrofoam, your fursuit could become napalm with some people using car oil on fursuits (This actually happened recently in my local area, someone used styrofoam and next thing you know, they were wearing napalm)
The thing is most cardboard boxes are sturdy so only worry if you accidentally find one that can be crushed try to crush it before using it if it can’t crush you can use it and do not wear it for too long.-from someone that is making a cardboard fursuit

После набора прочности смола отталкивает влагу и не пропускает её в бумагу. Благодаря этому никакой плесени не будет и сьют можно носить намного дольше 4 минут, как тут писали. Ещё от смолы основа становится прочнее Это же касается и бумажной массы Эпоксидную смолу можно заменить на любой подобный аналог, который сможет пропитать бумагу и дать гидрофобное покрытие Главное при работе с такими материалами не забывать о защите. Помещение обязательно должно проветриваться. Обязательны перчатки и защита глаз и органов дыхания

I will say if you just want to make face masks that aren't meant to cover your whole head and body, if it's just like how Halloween masks work, you can use cardboard or paper mache for that but make sure you're not sweating into them and sanitize them well. A great way to seal paper mache for face masks is with modge podge sealant, it can provide some protection, but still don't use it for a full head. A great place to find cheap upholstery foam is walmart. If you don't have a Walmart, any craft store will have it too But yeah I've seen fursona masks before that can serve as a "suit" in a safe way while still utilizing things people have better access to. Don't use sponges still and definitely not metal unless you have a safe way or reason for incorporating metal bars for form or ears on the mask. Again don't make a full fursuit head out of it. But you can make masks with them still that can be used lightly to prevent molding.
I purchased a head off fur buys years ago was plaster. One person bumped into my snout and it shattered the bace all over my face and not only was I already all cut up but to take it off since not a zipper back was carving my face more it was 3 years before FNAF came out and there was so much blood could have been a spring lock suit malfunction. The head can't be fixed so she is just display on the wall like a hunting trophy. A vary expensive one at that
The paper therian mask bases- And all the cardboard I use to make snouts and extend the ears on them- (I know these aren't as expensive to make so if they get destroyed it's not a big deal lol, this was a joke)
I hope to make a fursuit that looks like it's made of paper maché I'll probably have to bring an umbrella at the tiniest percent chance of rain tho lol
Is sweat and mold an issue if you're not making something as insulated as a fursuit head, like a helmet made of cardboard with paper mache to even out the texture? Is that going to last as long or pose a health risk?

Don't forget air dry foam clay. I was convinced to make a headbase out of that. It softens with water. Hoping to remake it with traditional materials.

Actually, I have a head made from paper mache. It's just also sealed with resin. It's lighter than other resin bases.
I love using insulation for my fursuits. It’s very soft and looks like cotton candy!

I’ve made a paper fursuit before. Inside the head I usually put tape to prevent it getting wet. I also avoid wearing it for too long :3

If you can't afford to get foam-like materials, do NOT use paper. Within 5 minutes you can start mould growth and it is very fragile.
Paper fursuits exists lol just don't wear it as long in hot humid areas to avoid mold

You can make paper,cardboard,plaster fursuits just dont wear them for too long only wear for 5-4 mins so they cant catch mold
Yeah and make sure to wear them in air conditioned rooms or, if you must do it oustude, during winter so you don't sweat too much cuz the cold lol
Paper is fine as long as you know when to throw it out/ how to keep it disinfected from mold
My tips are mostly for long lasting or durable fursuits, that's why I don't recommend paper, it's too fragile

i used a couple of cheap yoga mats for parts
use magnesium because it prevents moisture. keeping your fursuit mold free \(^_^)/
