- Welcome to my UA-cam channel. This channel is the home for all your vintage Mid-Year Corvette content. Guys this video was a little hard to make. I like fixing cars and making them nice but man it’s hard to take the knife to a car that seems pretty decent on the surface. All this tear down will be worth it in the end. We will make this Camaro great again and as good as it was when it was new. So hang on to your hats folks. This one has a lot of cutting.
I just finished restoring a 1963 Corvette Split Window and I am starting another split window build but this time its a race car build. I will be making videos every Friday. I will be making videos on my 1963 Corvette Split Window, my dad's 1965 Corvette, my race car split window build, my friends 1960 Corvette, and other projects that I find along the way. Let me know what you think about the video. Enjoy!!
If you are interested in an official MYM hat or if you have any questions please send me an email to midyearmitch@gmail.com.
Check out my Instagram for some behind the scenes pics of my builds.

New Subscriber, Love how the plasma cutter just peels it up, surgical comes to mind.
Thanks for subscribing! It’s such a big help. Oh yeah the plasma cutter doesn’t mess around. It’s a quick way to get through the layers and cut a car apart. It also can make a mess pretty quick too lol.
THAT’S IT !!! I HID THE PLASMA CUTTER !
Awweee that’s no fun lol. That’s why I can’t have nice things.
Mitch, you do some of the most detailed work I have seen. I am really excited to see this car come along! I don’t think anyone here thinks you ruined it. I’m very glad you are doing it the right way!
I love the change of pace . The Camaro project sure snowballed !!
Thanks Sid. Yeah it really did!
Hey there Mitch,
What have you done! 🙂
I have to admit, my inexperience in these matters leads me to believe the only way to fix this is to install a new car.
But, I have faith in you, so ... git-er-done!
Take care,
Dan
Hey Dan yeah I opened a can of worms with an axe. Haha “install a new car”. That’s good lol.
Looking forward to seeing this! ✌🏼🤞🏼🍀🍻
Thanks Jim!
Very nice work and love the attitude! You are a brave man!
Thanks is appreciate it! It was definitely a little risky to just dive in but that’s what needed to happen.
It’s good to see that you’re doing it right!
Thanks I appreciate it!
DZ 302? Wait, I'm thinking of a Z-28 I think. Anyways I'm all in on this build.
She’s a factory black RS/SS 350 auto with air. She had all the options.
Mitch,
I wish you were my son. I could really use skills and energy
Haha thanks you’re too kind.
I would think you should replace one panel at a time ! Then move on to the next. However I know you are very qualified and know your business 👍always a joy to watch your videos . Thanks
Normally that’s the right way to do it. But these weren’t installed in the correct place and they all nest on each other so they all need to go in order to get a correct foundation.
For a guy who puts together Corvette jigsaw puzzles this will be a breeze!
Haha I hope!
So much work Mitch , makes me think about all those high dollar auction cars , what is hiding under the paint .How can a guy tell just by looking ?
That’s a good point. I think buyers need to be careful at auctions for that exact reason.
I found a huge mouse nest inside of the structure that spans the A-pillars when I cut my roof skin off. I used an AMD roof skin, and it fit beautifully except for the left front corner, and the small bodyline along the drip rail wasn't the same width of the quarter. It took some creative massaging and a little body filler. I also covered the bottom side in Dynamat before I installed it.
Thanks for the tip! I’m anxious to see how everything fits up. It should be a good time. I bet that’s much easier to install the dynamat when it’s off the car as well.
@@MidYearMitch You can cover the whole skin when it's off the car. I glued my skin along the drip rail instead of welding. I don't have a spot welder and the nozzle on my welder is too big for a clean weld in that tight space. I bought every vise grip c-clamp that two different Menards had in stock, and clamped it down while I welded the rest. Good luck, I'm looking forward to more videos.
Great to see you removing and replacing that damaged structure under the quarter..most would have just covered with a new quarter and called it "good" Actually many wouldn't even have replaced the quarter. I have seen many hacked up 1st gens. Good job Mitch..👍
I’m sure most would have sent it as is. But we wanted it to be right and I’m glad we did it the way we did. Although it was a lot of work lol.
You still have your Model A project? You should know that the roof skin on the 67/68 Camaro coupes has just the right X/Y curve to use to fill the roof opening on your Model A.
Hey that’s a good idea! I didn’t think about that. As long as I can avoid the area that lost its shape I can use that as a filler. Good call thanks!
No! Don't go now! More! Mitch if the Camaro wasn't in your hands I would be crying now. I wonder how many Camaros died at the hands of people that started a project like this with good intentions. Then for reasons of life's learned lessons gave up. Yes this is by far your best cliff hanger and the next Friday is so far away. Talk about blood pressure. Mitch you need to have a television show. You already have the title "Midyear Mitch". Now get back to work and fix that car before your Dad gets home. Take care and stay safe. Just kidding about your Dad he has to be a great guy.
Haha I had to leave you guys hanging. I’m sure a few did. Sometimes you have to send it but carefully send it haha. I would love my own show. But I don’t know if a guy would have time for that haha.
Wow you are taking alot off at one time no bracing i hope you have some measurements reference points but glad to see you have all the weight of the car on the jack stands and the inside rocker is still on and th floor but some bracing side ways would be good looks like you have it though everyone has there way good luck it will look 👍
I'd also like to know what your dad said when he saw his car cut up ?
He didn’t like the plasma cutter for awhile lol
Look at the 67 Camaro that Goonsquad rebuilt the same side was completely destroyed and they installed everything your going to be doing!
I’ll check it out! I saw one or two videos on the car but I’ll have to watch the whole series now! That was good timing thanks for the tip!
How do you line anything up without bracing the car up first before cutting the body up ????
The reason I didn’t brace the car is because parts weren’t in the correct spot to begin with. When the car was grafted together parts were damaged and bent so they didn’t line up. You’ll have to subscribe and watch the future videos to see how it goes back together. I thought about bracing the car but dimensions were off. The windshield, rear window, passenger door, quarter, and roof skins will help locate everything.
look up dynacorn classic bodies
I’ve checked them out before but no one has that kind of money to pay for a shell. This car still has a lot of life left in it.
