I don't think it was her worst piece of work... It was indeed one of her greatest performances, better than ones in the recent years in my opinion... She just thinks that she maybe could have done it better now...

She was adorable in Mamma mia. Cute, warm, funny. I don't remember The French... movie, I saw that film like decades ago. And of course not every perfomance can be brilliant. And one of her first movies was Sophie's Choice, which is like one of the best performances on screen, ever, so she did put the standard pretty high not only for herself, but for movie acting itself as well.

I agree with her on the issue of 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. It was a mediocre movie with a lousy structure, propped up on great performances by Streep and Irons.
On the other hand, they robbed her of an Oscar for 'August Ossage County', only because she had won two years prior. The competition was strong, but her performance was simply irreproachable.

    • @ebbandflowph

@@jjh2456 Exactly. The Devil Wears Prada is when meryl become MERYL and everyone kinda fell in love with her again. You are absolutely right, the Iron lady Oscar was to cover up the fact that she has been unrecognised since the early 80's. Viola deserved the Oscar that year. Though adaptation, hours and doubt were good but Devil wears Prada was pathbreaking in her career.

why is no-one here mentioning "still of the night?" even if it can be chalked up to a piss-poor script and sub-par direction, her performance in this film is damn near unwatchable...

I just watched that recently on Amazon Prime. Hadn't heard of it; easy to understand why it's never been included in a career highlight reel. We pretended it was a satire of B-movie thrillers, and that got us through.

No worst performance by Meryl Streep.

The French Lieutenant's Woman was not a very good movie but that was not Ms. Streep's fault. I think people fell in love with that blasted long cape/cloak thing she wore in the film. LOL

She wasn't going to say and then a picture from the film came up after a second. Another great performance or an amazing editor?

The late, great KATHARINE HEPBURN once stated MERYL STREEP was the most over-rated young actress. The Great Kate, who won a record FOUR BEST ACTRESS OSCARS from 1932 to 1982 said: "When I watch her perform, I can see the wheels spinning in her mind. Too precious." Even the now legendary Miss. Streep didn't impress everyone. LOL!!

Her worst performance was clapping and roaring for Roman polanski at the Oscars.

It's exactly the same thing with us 'regular human beings'. The older we get, the better we are at our jobs (don't you guys think so?).
