    Tim, Why do you use Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Hardener vs Sally Hansen Hard as Nails nail polish? Viscosity? Hardness when dry? Does it matter? Thanks for the video.

    Awesome tip! I have been admiring the applicator in your past videos and found it online last year -- it's been working super! Thank you for all your videos and all the information you share, it's much appreciated.

    The isopropyl alcohol as a thinner was the nugget of gold in this video. There’s almost always a few in your vids, sometimes I just have to wait till the end to find it. I’d stopped using those dispenser bottles just for that reason. I couldn’t use it all before it thickened and change colors . Thanks

      Ditto. I started using these bottles because of his vids and stopped for the exact reason you did. I'm gonna give them another try, they did work well - while they lasted.

      Another little tip that I didn't have time to include in the video is to try and keep the bottle almost brimming with head cement/Sally Hansens. It seems the less air in the bottle, the longer the liquid stays thin and viable. Makes sense I guess.

    I have 3 and I love it but I had the same problem with my loon head cement thickening over time. I never though to add thinner to them in that case. Although my current bottles seem to be keeping fairly well

    many thanks for this video. I bought a bottle and the cement inside was very thick and wouldn't come down the straw/tip. I'll try a few drops of isopropyl tongiht.

    I use one of these with Loon water-based cement. When I pull the needle out it gushes the head cement out all over my finished fly. Quite annoying. It feels like a waste to dump it out and replace with Sally Hansens though so here I am still using it...

    Hey @tightlinevideo thanks for this video, I've been loving having this on my bench. One question (and I see a few others have mentioned this problem): After applying the cement, I always get more oozing out of the top of the applicator, even when it's standing upright, and I have to wipe it down before putting the stopper back in. Any tips on how to stop this from happening? Thanks!

    The Sally Hansen does work great in these bottles. I tried Pouring some Zap-A-Gap in one of these bottles. Yeah, not happening. A week later everything was locked solid. Needle and top. Couldn't get the top off with pliers, and I pulled so hard the top came off of the needle. The Zap is still liquid inside though. Thanks

    Just FYI, Coty, the maker of Sally Hansen's, says that you should use nail polish remover, aka acetone, to thin the stuff.

    I took the advice, bought the bottle. Whenever I remove the needle blobs of glue come oozing out from built up pressure in bottle. Then it keeps oozing when I try to apply to thread wraps. The needle is also hard to replace in applicator. I dunno, I can't get on with this piece of kit, back to the simple metal needle that was attached to my old glass bottle lid.

      Same problem I apply the cement and it continues coming out even after I tip the bottle upright. Maybe you just have to let gravity do the work and not squeeze the bottle too tight to get the cement out.

      That's a big no to using UV cure resin in these bottles. Like an idiot I tried it and locked the needle into the tube instantly. Then the stuff inside the bottle began to set. This just from a bit of sunlight coming in through the windows in my tying room.

    Anyone else have trouble with the stopper needle getting “glued” into the nozzle? After I broke off two of the stoppers, I quit trying. Maybe I’m doing something super wrong...

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  3 роки тому

      I've been using them for probably 8 years now and have never had that problem. I once tried putting super glue in the bottle to see if that would work. It most certainly did not. Pretty much instantly locked the stopper rod inside the tube. Fortunately, I was able to heat the tube with a lighter and remove the stopper rod. Dumped out the super glue and replaced it with Sally Hansen's, it worked Ok after that. But yeah, applicator bottles don't work well with super glue.

    • @kvzaustin
      @kvzaustin 3 роки тому

      @@tightlinevideo I was using hard as nails when this happened, and think the problem was that when I removed the stopper needle, some of the cement would always be forced out due to pressure in the bottle. Not sure if that’s because of the material off-gassing or what, but this little drop would eventually be what cemented the stopper handle to the nozzle. Again, I’m sure if I watched you use this, I would see some subtle technique you’ve adopted that I haven’t. I’m going to give it another try for sure.
