I’ve been watching your videos for many, many years and believe I’ve viewed them all. But this one is my current favorite. Why? It contains your usual detailed tying instructions with many of your personal touches. But it has an enormous amount of side information. This includes: 1. How you became aware of the pattern, 2. Background on the pattern originator, 3. Fishing experience with the pattern in diverse waters, 4. Sizing and weighting options, 5. Combination suggestions with other patterns, 6. Tippet considerations, and finally 7. Introduction of a new version of Sally Hansen nail polish to use for the resin sensitive. Putting this all in one video required a lot of thought and effort. To expect you or other video makers to do this every time is unrealistic. But this video is now the “gold standard” on how things can be done.
Can I be honest and say when I saw what you were tying, I was a little dismissive of the video before I played it. But, this may be the best fly tying video I’ve ever watched. Super clear instructions, excellent visuals, and rational for each step would have been enough to make me feel sheepish for judging the video before watching it, but then when you went the extra mile and described how to fish it I was blown away. Thanks for what you do!
It’s a great reminder. Seem like so many recipes have 17 steps and 9 different materials. Yeah they look cool and they catch fish too. But it doesn’t get much simpler than this. Or a Shop Vac. Or a Walt’s. ETC…. Sometimes I guess we outthink ourselves. Going to give these a try. Pretty sure they’ll work like a charm. Thanks as always Tim.
Hey Tim, I would just like to thank you for your dedication and commitment to teaching and sharing what you have learned. I absolutely love learning from your video and your experiences. In my lifetime I learned that it’s truly people that care and are at the top of their game that represent true professionals. Although a relative new comer to fly fishing and now fly tying as I enter my retirement it’s comforting to know there are people like yourself out there for people like me, learning and growing. Cheers
Hey Tim, thanks for sharing this pattern. Just started tying and fishing this bug recently. I guide on Montana's Bitterroot River and it's been one of my most productive nymphs this fall.....
That last bit with different sizes and material edits along with recommended tippet and fishing configurations was really great If you’re taking requests please add that as a standard segment in videos! Now off to the bench with me
I really wanted to try this pattern out. But I didn't have all the materials. So I tied it in a size 18 with tan thread and Pheasant tail fibers. 🤞fingers crossed it will work ok until I get what I need to make it right. I'm new to tying and I really enjoy your videos. I like how you clearly describe every step and I can understand it easily.
As always, great video! I've been tying something similar to this for a while, albeit with a black bead and no collar. Like this version better. Hope your allergic reactions to resin get "CURED". (couldn't resist). Tight lines.
Hey Sir, I really really like your videos and your style! You offer so mcuh really good information, up there with the likes of Davie Mcphail, and Cheech, I would really love to see you tie a zoo cougar. Thank you!
Thrilling to see a new video of yours pop up after studying so many other nymph patterns of yours. All of my friends have been enjoying the rainbow warriors i've tied just like yours. This will be a smash hit as well. Do you live in Montana Tim? I'm down in the Bitterroot. Cheers!
I’ve been using a similar fly like this for nearly 8 years and it has been my number 1 producer. Black has been the only color I use anymore on wild trout streams. Try this variation if you’re in the northeast. Hook : Hanak Jig Standard #16 similar. (Not the wide gap) Bead: Hareline 1/8” Silver or Copper. Tail: Dark Mottled CDL/or Black - half body length (shorter is better, not like those ghastly Orvis perdigons with the crazy long tails 😖) Body: 8/0 Black UTC, or Danville 6/0 tapered smoothly up to to bead. Collar - Veevus Chartreuse 12/0. Secure thread behind bead and 4-5 whip finishes should do it. Rib - Not needed. U.V. - Use a thin cure resin and put a light coat on body and collar/hotspot. Fish it under a large parachute Ant, hopper, etc, and hold on.
Thank you for tying this for us. Going to spin up a dozen tomorrow. This works well on the provo when most thing wont. Question, are you allergic to the UV glue? I've developed a severe allergy to it. Even the smallest amount of the fumes it produces when cured will cause me some issues. And touching it to my skin makes my whole face swell up. I thought it was one of the furs i was using, but a week of tying with feathers only caused me to end up in the hospital from the UV Glue..
Tim - Thank you for sharing this pattern. You have inspired me to tie a bunch of these in different sizes. Sorry that you are allergic to UV resin. Is that the reason you tie it with a black thread collar and not use a black wing case? If you were able to use UV black resin for a wing case, do you think it makes any difference which side of the bead it is on?
There are a few Fly Tyers that are allergic to it."Shorty" is another one. He also has a Fly Tying UA-cam Channel. He developed a serious rash on his arms.
ua-cam.com/video/5cirf9WNPdk/v-deo.html Since this video was done, I've become more sensitized to UV cure resins and react when protective measures are taken. Now, I can't even be in the same room where someone's using it.
I've been an avid tyer for decades and I still hinge on every word in your videos. Thanks!

You straight up have the best fly tying videos with loads of information!
What a super fly. Your photography and explanations are THE BEST I have seen!!!

Great instruction as usual thank you
Loved this video 👍 Especially the breakdown of different size materials for different hooks and how you like to fish them.

I plan to let this pattern Swim …..
In Both NW Michigan & NW Montana !!
✨ 🎣 💫
Very nice
Size 8 and 3/16" bead down to an 18. Now that's a versatile range.
One of your best. I love the bit at the end. When you were talking about tippet sizes I assume you're using flouro?
Hey Sir, I really really like your videos and your style! You offer so mcuh really good information, up there with the likes of Davie Mcphail, and Cheech, I would really love to see you tie a zoo cougar.
Thank you!
Love all you're videos you have thought me so much thank you for every video. I have question though, why can't you use UV resin anymore?
Thank you for sharing. In all your experience, what is your most productive fly of all time?
Nice
As always, a fantastic video. I’m going to tie some tonight! Let’s see how they do in Idaho waters.
If I may ask, what turned you off to UV resin?
Looking into the jf2 lighting strike hooks. What are your thoughts? Reviews? Great tutorial as always! Thanks!

Hi Letort Angler. Is the Chartreuse collar fluorescent?
@@louied6065
I believe it is. Veevus Fl. Chartreuse 12/0

I had to give up UV resin as well. Kept trying it, thinking "It will be fine this time." But no, it is not. Kind of like eating Arby's.
Fantástico perdigon 😊

hi Tim, wondering why you don't use solarez any longer? i have both S and SH. CHEERS
I think it’s because he is allergic to it
That would be unfortunate
I am getting itchy face and eyelids when I use epoxy resins. Is this your reaction too?
Why can’t you use uV resin anymore?
Tim’s explained before that he’s discovered an allergy to it.
@@swearyangler oh man I completely missed that …. that sucks
Why don't you use UV resin???

I think Tim has had some allergic reactions to the fumes of the UV cure resins. Continued exposure can make reactions worse.
@@stevewfu2004 ah, gotcha!
