I’m an experienced off-roader so familiar with portal axels and the like. Your guy is right about the seal/breather failure.
One of the common known mods in off-roading is to run a tube to the diff breather to where you fuel up so that it can breathe without taking in any water or mud. You basically just drill a small hole by the gas tank inlet and affix the tube to it.

Excellent video, thank you for posting it.
I would recommend venting the axle.
I have a 2001 4700 tractor, 5-6 yrs ago had oil seeping from top seal on spindle axle housing, once I vented the axle it’s been bone dry since. One other modification I would recommend. The 2 caps ( freeze plugs) are glued in place. Two weeks ago I was removing snow and when I parked tractor in barn I noticed the 2caps on the floor. Lost 2 gallons of axle fluid without ever knowing the axle was running dry for about an hour. I reglued the caps with ( loctite retaining compound 620 jd recommends it) and as a safety precaution I fabricated 2u shape brackets to support the caps. I used the bottom 2 bolts of the hub gear housing ( mine has 8 bolts) and replaced the pipe oil drain plug with a brass hexagon drain bolt. Auto part stores stock them.i also installed a 1/4” x 1/2” rubber piece glued and fastened to bracket under cap for support and preventing noise vibration. Hope this helps.

My 2020 3046R , with 280 hrs , is at my dealer at this very moment for this exact problem . The dealer told me the six year drivetrain warranty “should” cover the cost of repairs . I did ask him about his opinion on the need for a vented dipstick and he said there was no need for one . Will be getting more information tomorrow . This definitely is an involved job . Love that lift setup . Great video my friend !

The drive train warranty did cover the cost of new seals for both right and left side of front axel . I also had a leak in the mid PTO shaft seal that was covered under warranty . This tractor is not used for any type of farming ( sand or mud exposure ) so why so many leaks in a tractor with only 280 hrs ?

Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I have a 3032E, 3039R (Cab), and a 4044M. They all have Otis Innovations vents! 3039R has the bolt on hooks RH door kit. I remember when I saw another video of yours about the vents and ordered one for the 3032E. When I installed it and removed the OEM cap, it made a pretty good hiss and was clearly pressurized. So, all 3 have the vent caps. I believe the 4 series and 3R series have the same front axle by comparing the side by side, so this repair if needed I will be able to do just from this video. Stay safe and thanks again.

The problem with the receiver mounts is, they tend to wiggle and move around a little. When I did mine before I welded it up under the table, I drilled a half inch hole, ran a bolt and nut into it, welded the nut solid so that I could put tension on that receiver when it was pinned to keep it from moving. Made it work a lot better.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  6 місяців тому

I'm afraid I may have that issue. Also, I didn't get my 'receiver' welding perfectly square, so this isn't good either. Thought I might make the 2" tube quite long...to minimize the wiggle.

Never power wash around seals or gaskets. Personally, I never power wash any of my equipment. I’ve yet to find anything a garden hose and a little elbow grease couldn’t clean and with far less chance of damage. Other than hydraulic system seals, most are not made to withstand significant pressure.

When I got my LS tractor home after the dealer dropped it off, I thought I would check the oil in the front axle. It has a dipstick on the other side. And the tractor was sitting level, it showed it was low, so I filled it. Then we moved from Florida to Missouri few years later. Now the ground is not level and that oil starts coming out of the vent and I check it again and it's over filled. So after a few days I noticed more oil is still coming out the vent and then all of a sudden it quits. It doesn't appear to be leaking now but I guess I will have to check it again and see if it has oil in it. It doesn't make any noise when driving it. So i will try and find a level spot to check it.

Even if the US goes metric you will still use both. 🇨🇦 went formerly to Metric on April 1 1975 and we use both. One thing I hate is a tape measure with inches and centimetres. My last three tapes I bought were inches only, much better for me. In fact my 2014 1025r I believe is half and half. It’s the hardest piece of equipment I have worked on to try and guess the size wrench needed.

I have already ordered the vented dipstick right after they picked up the tractor but this is crazy, 6 hrs and leaking. It is covered by the warranty but my mind is still blown over this. That stinks about the wheel seal on the 3046r. I guess I lucked out with mine. Nothing major has been wrong with it. Only thing that just started after 830 hours is I noticed the front loader drops a little bit. Apparently the lift cylinders were known to have problems because the factory used cheap seals in them.

I know you love the discounts that these online dealers can give you. But when it comes time to service if you've been in there a hundred times buying parts they're more likely to loan you the tool or help you out on a late-night parts need.
Story of a local guy who always orders all of his tractor parts online. (But calls the dealer to get the part number first) He was out combining one night and about 5:01 on a Saturday night he broke down and needed a part.
He called the dealer to ask if they had it which they did, and asked if one of the guys would stick around for an extra half hour so he can pick it up. No one really felt like sticking around so the parts guy told him to order it online and hung up.
(There was a few other reasons for the parts guys actions.)
Meanwhile me with just my little GX 345 and 4720 have the parts guys personal cell phone number in case I ever need anything after hours.
Sometimes relationships mean more than a 5% discount.

I get more accurate ordering online compared to my nearest dealer. Saves me multiple trips, time, money, and the repair gets done sooner. This particular dealer rarely have anything for my tractor in stock, so it is at least a 2 day wait, longer if they order the wrong part. Then when they order the wrong part, they up the price above MSRP so the customer ends up covering the cost of their mistake. So, I trust another tractor dealer that has a great online UA-cam presence to order my parts. That company has not failed me once in 20 years.
