I enjoyed watching this process, and vary happy sending my 3320 to my dealer for both done the money was well spent. I put the Otis vent on to hopefully prevent future issues. Thanks for a great lesson Dave, Tim & finance dept.
I just bought a 4300 with 5130 hours on it, non running needing some injection pump work. Pump is getting rebuilt at a local shop. Previous owner spent $6000 to have front axle seals done last year, will be adding one of those vented caps from otis, thanks for mentioning them!
Love these videos that show how to perform repairs and maintenance that we don"t normally run into! Dave has a wealth of knowledge and skill to perform these tasks. Nice video Tim.
Great video, I used to be mechanic for 40 years and that felt good. The main thing I noticed you showed putting it back together, you did show taking it apart. That’s cheating. Good job guys
@@TractorTimewithTim Thanks Tim for the tip! No pressure built up, but I found the issue. The bearing failed and some metal fragments from the bearing race must have damaged the seal. I flushed out the fine metal particles in the gear oil, replaced the bearing, oil seal and sleeve, hopefully it's good to go as I have a lot of soil to move!
Tin its not just deere I have done kubota too and the main hub seal on bigger kubota leak also venting and not changing oil also is a problem great videos
Installed an Otis Innovations vent kit today on my 1025R. Was actually surprised that there was a small amount of pressure in the axle when taking the dipstick out. Of course I used TTWT when ordering.
Can’t wait to hear what my local dealer says the next time I take my tractor in for my every other year maintenance. Yeah I know, I can do the maintenance myself but I don’t have the desire to mess with diesel oil anymore. Plus I have a couple of medical issues that just makes it uncomfortable to do all those things I used to like doing. My dealer will come and get my tractor and deliver it back to me the next day and they’re only about 8 miles from my house. They even pressure wash the tractor before returning it.
I have a JD 4200 I bought new in 98 or so. Fortunately I haven't had this issue. Great tractor, however, rather underpowered. Thanks for the informative video.
I bought my LS tractor in Florida and it being flat which is about opposite of Missouri i noticed at an angle the oil was coming out the vent. I have yet to check the oil and probably it may be low. I think all the little tractors have the same problem. The best way to fix the socket is put it in a lathe and cut it back evenly.
Proper tools make all the difference in the world. Red loctite when the part can handle the heat to remove it. It takes 500 degrees for Loctite brand red to loosen up. Also consider what is near that part. Blue with the activator will hold almost anything you need it to until service time. There are two blues, one is oil resistant.
Hopefully I got my Otis Innovation front axle breather kit installed in time so that I don’t have to tackle that job….ahhhh but now I know who to call ;-) Blessings.
Hey Tim, Greg Ritter SeaTac Washington if you remember correctly told you quite a while ago I’ve got a 4300 and I’ve only got 500 miles on it and I’ve been using it quite a little bit. I fold a couple oil tanks out of the ground big ones 300 gallon or bigger course they weren’t full, butmines been running real well I haven’t done any fluid replacement in the front axle whatsoever. I probably should check them now that you’ve brought it up. I think I will.
Tim, while Yanmar built those tractors, they were built to John Deere specs. What Yanmar did-purchased US axles that were spec or built the axle to those specs would have to be answered by someone in the design/supply chain at that time. One thing we do know, they were well built tractors as there are still lots of them being used.
red thread locker, to disassemble, 450 degrees for 5 minutes will soften the compound making disassembly easy. Remember Loctite is not the only manufacture of "thread locker".
Enjoyed the video! I had a problem with the Fuse block in my 2018 B 3350 Kubota. After spending time trying to get the part and not available any place or any dealer I ended up using two truck fuse holders! Kubota really failed here!’
The only way you could be the part that was small and held a 50 and a 60 amp fuse was to buy the entire wiring harness for $2150. The fuse hold broke when I had to replace the 60 amp fuse which require force to take out. A simple factory solution would have been to cover the contacts with Dielectric grease...Tom@@TractorTimewithTim
Blue for things you know you're going to take apart later read for things you never plan on taking apart again. Or that are very important that they never come apart.. hard to access. Can cause major damage. Stuff like that... Red.
I have a 4410 RH that needs a seal. Bought the vented fill plug but still leaking. What is the part number of the socket removal tool with 4 nubs. Job looks easy enough. Just did a similar job on a 2320 - true it was a little easier. Thanks for the P/N.
When I did my 2001 4300 I had a piece of 2" square tubing and welded 4 pieces of hardened rod wire at each corner to make my own free socket. I didn't even have to hammer it to fit! Sorry couldn't resist. How can I send a pic.?
I have an X595 4x4 with OEM loader, turf tires, gentle hours and a leaking front inner seal. I have the parts and am a shade tree mechanic but no joy finding a walkthrough on the process. Interesting that old tractor with a 3 cylinder yanmar has more hp than the new 10/2025’s. The little tractor that can. The hydraulics squeal but the dealer says it’s just the way they are??? Different dealer from the original selling dealer.
@@TractorTimewithTim Thank you! That would be awesome however we may be a bridge too far apart. I’m just outside Omaha. About how many miles from there?
Tim, off topic for this video but another channel revealed their JD farm tractor hood material fracturing all up (they spent $7k on a replacement hood) I wondered if you could go through your vast fleet of JD and alternative tractors to show all the hoods and materials in them. I thought JDs were fiberglass with inserts but it looks like this other channel's hood is all injection molded with poorly aging brittle plastic everywhere. Is that 'industry standard' now or just JD?
I do not know. I have had pretty good luck with ‘aging’, but I did break one on ole salty….by running a big stick up through it. Can’t really blame the hood for that.
Hey, you are showing the wrong way to insert the ring race You heat the big part and freeze the small part. Just saying from formal training and experience. Joel @ 78 years....

Good Job on the front axle repair! I noticed a leak starting on my front axle final drive case last weekend, hopefully it will be an easy fix.
Vent your front axle. See if the leak stops.

We did not shoot any video at Work Brau. Nice shop there, but it looked like many other fab shops. Didn’t think folks would be interested.

You should change the fluid in the front axle at minimum.

Why not take a file to the nut & deepen the groove so that the nut now slips on the socket you have? Common sense rules.
I think our choices were sensible.
