I was singing this just this morning. One of the first songs I was ever introduced to!
Fun Fact: Released in the UK on August 4, 1964, "You Really Got Me" climbed to #1 on September 16, where it stayed for two weeks. In America, it was released in September and reached a peak of #7 in November.
- Also Van Halen Had Made A Cover Of That Song.
And Oingo Boingo covered this early in their career.

Ozzy Osbourne has said this is one of his alltime favorite songs, one of the first rock songs he fell in love with. Now, imagine that riff on a heavier guitar and Ozzy singing it. it really fits.

Saw Van Halen at the Kiel Opera House here in St Louis and do their cover of this. Later saw The Kinks at the same place. Ray Davies said some band did a cover, but this is how it should be done. They turned up the amps then tore the place down.
Van Halen covered this but I like kinks version more. Davies brothers feud in the band is legendary
Of the over 500 concerts i have attended, seeing The Kinks was one of my favorites. Ray Davies is a master of getting the crowd riled up, and his brother Dave can really play the six string in an aggressive manner. "You Really Got Me", was later covered by the American band Van Halen, with some of their own variations thrown in. Saw Van Halen too.

Van Halen did a cover of this song on their first album. Both versions were innovative. The Kinks original introduced intentional distortion on a track. Dave Davies had a rip in the speaker cone of his amp, which made that buzz. The Van Halen version followed "Eruption" and was, of course bt Van Halen... That entire first album was a game changer.

Paranoia Deep Destroyer! Come Dancing. They were pretty versatile and didn't have just one sound. They weren't really kinky like in Lola very much.
The Kinks have a ton of great songs. I recomend Sunny Afternoon or Strangers. Both are killer tracks.
