It started with the release of the PS5 and XBox Series X. Since release schedules are so tight they only have time to optimize the game for consoles. I'd expect this to stay like this until those consoles get beaten by budget PCs again. Until then not only have we wait for bug fixes but also optimization patches until the games become playable for everyone.
@@Ninjaeule97 It's funny how many people compare consoles to budget PCs in terms of performance yet they claim that games are demanfing because of them.
@Rullino32 When a new console comes out it always beats PCs on price to performance easily. An 8 Core Zen 2 CPU which the PS5 has alone would have cost $330 when it came out. However, since the hardware stays the same eventually PCs will outperform it for the same price. Also, it's much easier to optimize a game for a single set of hardware rather than the multitude of GPUs and CPUs you have on PC. Makes sense why developers prioritize optimizing games for consoles first and then releasing optimization patches for PCs after release. If a game runs badly, on PC devs can just raise the requirements whereas on console they have to optimize it otherwise they can't ship it.
Yeah, funny thing is, earlier this year Atlus released Persona 3 Reload. All Persona games so far have been optimized extremely well, with another Persona game, Persona 5 Tactica, which released just a few months prior, running at well over 200 FPS at 1440p highest settings on my RX 6750XT. But Persona 3 Reload caused multiple people's systems to struggle massively. Turns out they've included Ray Tracing (which arguably makes the game look worse, funnily enough) and called it "Reflections". It's actually Lumen and the reason why so many people thought the game was unoptimized. I had around 60-80 FPS with it enabled, as soon as I disabled it I had a constant 120 FPS, which is the maximum in that game.
It's funny how many people are saying that 1440p will be the standard resolution for gaming yet the latest titles struggle to run at 1080p for most people. Edit:The issue isn't with games becoming more realistic and having a better visual fidelity, it's mostly about lack of optimization, when you need a 1440p for a good 1080p experience, especially at high refresh rate without the need of upscaling and frame generation, not everyone is going to upgrade resolution as easily as they did back with 1080p from 768p.
