- In 1994 I was the Musical Director for the Michael Ball Show on British TV. Without warning at the rehearsal, one of the guest stars added an extra song. But you can’t say no to Mister James Brown, so I quickly worked up an arrangement to have my band play with his - “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag”.

It’s too hard to find an entertainer dancing with that speed and accuracy in his 60s or 70s. There is only James Brown

I wonder why the audience wasn’t as excited as his previous audiences. He probably wasn’t the norm in London like he was in America. Idk. All I know is, I would have been screaming my head off if I saw him dance that smooth at that age.
British audiences are much more reserved - especially an audience in a TV studio for a stage musical star's show. JB was a guest. Watch for my special video about working with Mr. Brown!

love that you're sharing these performances but I've got one gripe, how come you've cropped them in 16:9? The original recording was in 4:3 and we're missing out on a bunch of image by cropping it, which is especially detrimental here where it's James Brown and you gotta see his feet.
This is UA-cam. I do my best. I am trying to show stuff that was lost by th TV vision mixers, who take wide shots 'to be safe'.
