    Even as a Honda guy and having not owned a VW in over 20 years, I must say I enjoy the time and dedication you and other VW enthusiast put into the brand. Car guys respect clean cars regardless of logo.

      The main thing that I love about vw is the community and the creativity. It doesn’t matter if it’s an original bug or a brand new electric van the passion is the same and tahr people are some of the nicest you’ve ever met.

      Ah the joy of working on a VR6 in a golf, reminds of the good old days...back then I thought it was tight and difficult to work on. But compared to modern cars it's actually not that bad.

    The audio quality of the videos must be praised. It struck me at the most random time and it blew my mind how the audio from the recorded video and the audio of the voice-over is almost identical and the transitions are so smooth, that you can rarely tell the difference. Top stuff.

    Fun fact about Alberta and snow...I lived there for 5 years in the '90s...they don't use much if at all any salt, they lay down aggregate on the road for traction over salt...it works better however it can be a bear with glass some times.

    • @TheAphtar
      @TheAphtar 7 місяців тому +6

      This is because it is often cold enough for long enough that salt will no longer melt ice on the road and be ineffective.

      Funny thing about that chopped car trailer guy that you catch a glimpse of in this video. He’s another UA-camr. I just saw a couple videos of him fixing and building it before WITW about 2 weeks ago.
      Pure coincidence that probably the first shot of actual WITW Charles captures him on video.
      Great job and good luck on all the work you’ve done and will do. You really are like a living vw service manual. Having worked at a vw dealer as a tech for just over a year, I know they have the wackiest procedures sometimes.(I’m sure he doesn’t necessarily know it all of the top, and just looks up certain things between shots or whatever, but still extremely knowledgeable and experienced.)

    That seal on the transfer case looks the same as the one you get on the Opel 8Valve water pump. If you can give me the measurements, i have a brand new pump. You should be able to get them from Autodoc in Germany or VWSA in south Africa. Also speak to Masterparts and GoldWagen spares in Cape Town they usually have hard to find stuff

    Fun fact, the clutch and brake system use the same fluid reservoir on most BMW's as well. Works well enough.

    Regarding the bevel box input shaft o-ring: its probably a standard metric o ring that you can get on mcmaster carr. Just measure the cross section of the o ring and the diameter of the hole in the transaxle it goes and and match it up on their site. They have nice explanations about the different materials that you can choose regarding o rings if you want something more exotic. I think Buna N will be fine for this application. Im sure you can get like 50 of them for $25

    A bloody marvellous video Charles, you always make it look soooooo easy 👍
    My dream is to own a R32 one day just purely for the sound. Until then I'll just have to make do with my red mk7 GTI.
