Nice! The fact that it was a pin oak makes it even more impressive! Those things have hands and will put up a fight all the way to the chipper. Very enjoyable to watch.
Beauty setup dude. I'm making my own trolley out of steel plate to do something similar. Don Blair used to sell a rigging trolley that weighted 8 lbs, he said the weight helped to keep the lines from twisting and fouling up, keep everything aligned. This is one way I plan on using it - with nice long crane slings. Hell of a job. - Patrick
Super technical set-up man! Doesn’t hurt to have 10k in rigging gear lying around lol. Nice work, takes a ton planning and communication as a crew to make that kind of job happen 👍🏼
Some crazy preparations and money cuts happening here. Glad I didn't hold back on the $ for rigging gear. Hope I don't need it for anything like this any time soon. Experienced ground guy's are worth a fortune and in high demand in my neck of the woods. Hope to find or shape and mold one soon. Takes the fun out of it when your the only one who understands what need's to happen.
Absolutely awesome brother! Do you ever run the zigzag in SRT what’s your favorite rope if you do I’m in the market for a new one and looking at the Petzl flow or all gear Cherry bomb
I haven’t run it srt very much. I usually use a rope runner for that. Of those two ropes, I’ve only used the flow, and found it very, very bouncy. I wouldn’t imagine it’d be good srt.
The Keanu is awesome! Looking at adding one to my kit for this lake front property. All the wood and brush needs to go up hill. A high line with the Keanu would move the loads. Which high line and load lines have you found to work best with the system?
Brilliant vid! Content , comments and music! Did you actually buy the keanu for this job or had used it before, btw you have a new sub! Cheers from Spain!
Do you have a video explaining the reeve system in detail? As in which ropes perform which functions? And how the piece is lifted and held while being transported?
Super cool stuff. I've been wanting to get into some highline stuff and just haven't had the right opportunity yet. Do you have any thoughts on knowing how to determine tension on the white rope in your system?
You want it as tight as you can get it. We had 300 ft of rope in that system, so tons of stretch to pull out. It needs to be tight to maintain the height in the system.
@@therealzigzagman I didn't even think of pretensioning the stretch out of it 🤔 I've always been worried about the tension that rope sees when loaded. I understand that you used a remote anchor on the high side so that the force application on the tree was mostly downward. How much load do you think was reasonable to put on that system. The tension on the white rope has the potential to multiple times the load on the red/white rope right?
@@zaccheus the more important thing is the direction of the force. We have estimates for what we think it saw, but the important thing is being safe with force direction, and starting small with stuff if you’re unsure
Dear Bro. Thanx a lot to share this exp with the community. This was a very good job. I would like to start to buy same staffs for highline. How long they would be in tour experience? Thanx very much. Bye from Italy. Renato
I’m sure the principle setup is the same. The only difference with logging like that, is you’re dealing with rated anchor points and relatively known weights, or at least weights you can put down if too heavy upon lifting.
fantastic job with the set-up, great commentary, the video was very helpful in explaining the purpose behind the choices that were made in the setup. the music was a tad louder than your voice, making the only down side of this video... and yes lack of thought and planning with kill you.. well done

Nice work. Good explanation and footage. Well worth the time to setup for as smooth and efficient as it went
👊🙏 thanks dude! Took more time to setup than to get the tree down!
Really awesome to see. Love the technical rigging really good demo of the Keanu. Appreciate your work.
🙏🙏👊 thanks for watching dude!
Outstanding job right there zigzag 💪
Very professionally executed and all round good job guys well done

What hurts, is to not have $10,000 in rigging gear when you really need it.

I see you Brother. Good job my friend!

Static stuff for the highline ropes. Yale double esterlon is a good choice.
Brilliant vid! Content , comments and music! Did you actually buy the keanu for this job or had used it before, btw you have a new sub! Cheers from Spain!
I bought the keanu specifically for that job. It’s such an expensive piece of gear that rarely gets used. Thanks for the sub!! 🙏
Do you have a video explaining the reeve system in detail? As in which ropes perform which functions? And how the piece is lifted and held while being transported?
I don’t 🤦. That would be sick tho. If you look up DMM OFFYA BIRD ISLAND here on UA-cam, that’s a pretty sweet edit that shows what you’re looking for

Most of the ropes used here were 300’, but it really depends on how far you need to go. Best to measure the job site and see.
Epic work man. How long did it take you to setup that whole system?
Setup took about 4 hours. 3.5 hours start to finish getting the tree down
@@therealzigzagman ya I figured it would have takin me like 5 hours to setup. Nice work bud
Very cool shit
🙏🙏
The keanu could be used to pull things up hill right? I need to have a play with one. Got a bunch of ash on a crazy steep slope to deal with.
Yes absolutely. You’d need a GRCS or something of the like to pull the haul line for sure
Tile roof?
It was some kind of tile or something. It was old, i know that much.
Looks very similar to logging under a tower shotgunning
