I'd say if you plan on tracking it, STI. If you plan on daily driving it WRX. Sti gives you 18in wheels and brembo brakes w a 30 year old engine. There's a better 6 speed transmission as well and better cornering ability due to the added LSD. If that stuff is worth 10k to you then get the STI. If you want a new motor with direct injection that's turbo charged and still gets 30 mpg on the highway go with the WRX. You can take the 10k put it into performance upgrades and have a 350hp/330tq car for the same price as the STI ( probably cheaper than that). The only thing holding the wrx back is the lack of LSD and the transmission. In my opinion the WRX has the better engine, especially for daily driving.

Yes I agree completely, FA20 is far superior then EJ25. However the STI’s chassis is better. For daily driving WRX all day. For track use I’d get STI. And if you can comfortably afford it

I think you also have to consider the steering racks. The STI has a superior hydraulic power steering rack, as compared to the STI's electronic power steering. Much better steering feel and response in the STI.

Owned a 2021 wrx for a year and tried to justify it but still my heart wanted an STI. Sold my WRX and bought an STI.
The only thing that I don't like about the STI is the Fuel economy.
    but
-Lime Green/yellow brembos(the money you saved on a wrx you'll buy big brakes anyway so you'll spend the money)
-Very responsive hydraulic stearing(find a shop to transplant a hydraulic stearing on your wrx more money again)
-Beefy transmission (the wrx trans feels like rowing a stick compared to the sti)
-The most famous 4 cylinder rumbling engine (every 4 cylinder turbo almost sounds the same except for the S2k but that's non turbo)
-That huge wing (I drilled holes on my wrx to get an STI wing because it completes the rear end of the VA IMO)
-Better OEM suspension(buy I changed it anyway)
    -Diff Controller
    -Cool Red Seat Belt
-Apex predator of Subaru food chain
And my insurance just went up by $8 a month LOL

If you can afford it, yes get the STI. If you can't afford it now, save up and wait until you can. If you get the WRX, you will might find yourself spending more than $10k trying to make it an STI. I bought the 2019 STI almost a year ago and I have no regrets.

Just bought a 2020 STI a month ago. If you have the extra money and you are not worried about buying more gas, hands down get the STI. Rock solid transmission, port injected, and updated EJ motor. Soon it’ll be gone from the market completely. If you don’t like it after driving it for a year, you can always trade it in and get the new generation model.

The Brembos alone are half of he cost difference, and the transmissions are worlds apart. I started with a WRX hatch (EJ motor) and I am now on my 3rd STi. I would never consider going back. I currently have a Stage 2, pro tuned, 2017 STi limited, without the wing, and my sister has a 2018 WRX limited, with only an axle back exhaust, and we both autocross. Even with none of the upgrades, her car is not really much slower, on the "autocross track" (tires, suspension, & driver make the most difference in AC), but her brakes and transmission feel like crap in comparison. Plus, launching the STi feels safe, and amazing, where as you are just waiting for WRX transmission to explode. Oh, and you cannot adjust the power bias to the rear, and that is noticeable on the track, and during launches. If you plan on "driving" the car at all, and you can afford it, do yourself a favor and get the STi. The brembos, transmission, and differential control more than make up the difference in cost.

Chris Wilson that's what wrx owners say, but the sti is , you get a fully upgraded interior , blacked out red leather, burgundy seatbelts , upgraded system, short shifter, sport button, stiffer suspension, better handling, bigger wheels , 4X larger breaks, lime green ones at that , stronger transmission , bigger motor, rumble, the badge, the respect...when i got my wrx i felt like it was missing something, don't get me wrong i modified mine to 347whp/418wtq, but i just much much more fun w the sti, i felt more comfortable with not modifying it, the rumble and wing was enough, brakes and 19" inch wheels were a bonus, and even driving this car i felt less scared than i did when driving the wrx,it felt more risky.... we all have our personal preference but to me i'm glad i got the wrx, it was a great fun car that gave me tons of memories, but it was abt time to upgrade to the big dog...and i think every wrx owner needs to eventually jump to an sti to fully understand how great of a car an sti is:)

@Anton Dutch Wrong. Unless youre on the track the STI makes no sense. You dont really take advantage of the extra performance during regular driving. The old ass out dated EJ motor is not nearly as efficient as the FA, the amount you spend on gas is sickening. Thats not even talking about the $600 payments and the insurance. Depends what you’re going to use it for and what your end goals are. Either is a win. If you don’t plan on modding for awhile or ever, STi is great out of the box and you’ll keep your warranty for when that ej hiccups. If you plan on making a solid daily driver and don’t care about the warranty, WRX is the better route imo because it costs less which leaves room for personalizing and could very well be just as if not still more reliable than the STi. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I paid $ 25,280 for a base 2015 WRX and added full turboback exhaust w Stage 2 Cobb $ 2,700. That's it, plain and simple. P. S. Most STI owners never see track/autocross time but still pretend they utilize suspension and breaks outside of stop and go traffic.

Only if you plan on tracking it, if its your daily driver the WRX is a no brainer.

If you can get it under $40K brand new, it's worth it.
Totally different beast the regular WRX.

I bought a WRX because I couldn’t afford a STI. However after research and owning my WRX I’m glad i didn’t foolishly attempt to get an STI. The FA20 is a far superior engine to the EJ25. STI has superior chassis but WRX has much better engine. STI for consistent track use and WRX for daily driving.

@Roy M. no buddy. FA20 is better than any ej engine that they came out with. Exactly why Subaru is going with a FA24 for the new STI coming out next year

Compared interiors and exteriors, but doesn't offer any real details about the drive. This is not a real comparison, as the main difference between these two cars is the driving feel which stems from the different motors, suspension, and brakes.
2k on the premium will get you almost same interior as STI limited. Where's the other 6-8k??? I'll tell you where, its all in the driving feel which you failed to talk about. This vid is a fail.

It’s 2.5 vs 2.0 bigger turbo vs smaller turbo. Better AWD with differential changes. Better manual gear box with shorter gears and better gearing. Big brakes and rims. Better seats better interior and more and more . So if u have the money sti is definitely better choice. And it has different suspension which is more track focused unlike wrx

    Sti waste of money,
Buy a wrx new 2L direct injection!
You don’t need all the driver select modes, after you go get stage 3 tuned why need sport sport sharp etc. plus changing power front and rear diff waste of time. All money wasting. Interior practically the same design practically the same. Besides wing etc.
In Australia they have a LSD rear diff standard if you want get a LSD front diff. plus the gear box 6 speed is good in wrx, I’ve had zero issues. if you blow it up replace it with the STI ONE.
I spent 6k on it I have 215kw at all wheels.
    Goes like a rocket.
But if you want to race it just put coil overs sti gear box and front LSD DIFF

Man.... the wrx owners in this comment section. I bet yall wake up everyday ready to defend your reasoning behind getting a wrx instead of an STI 😂😂😂. lol most STI owners I know including myself.. dont really give a shit 😂😂. We both got subies right? lol I mean damn, if u want an STI get one, if u want a WRX then get one. Stop defending your reasoning lol. Its your money do what you want and enjoy being part of the subie family. This debate is dumb cuz out the factory.. the STI is just a better car.. Period. But we all know WRX owners and STI owners mod... and whoevers got the most money for that... is going the fastest.. regardless of what car you got. 💪🏽
