I drove on this bridge during the super fog last week and it was the scariest experience I’ve ever had. This bridge is the reason I have a glass breaker attached to my visor.
I remember coming over this as a kid as the sun was setting, it looked like we we’re driving toward the end of the world. Now, it’s just a long ass bridge/an occasional 30 of my day
I drove the Causeway twice a day for eight years commuting from Mandeville to New Orleans. I would often see people buying a “Causeway” can of beer (16 oz.) to hold them over until they got home . I preferred an extra large coffee 😀.
I'm from California Sacramento area. But I have family there in Mandeville I've Ben over that bridge more than a few times as a kid, even fished next to it when my mom lived by it. I've also heard my share of stories from people's experiences on the causeway.. Thanks for ur upload
I had a total blowout - to the rim on that bridge driving a triumph spitfire sports car- stupid me doing about 80 - lucky I was in the slow lane and only about a mile from the end- Used one of my nine lives- I was 20 years old. Dude when u are young- I drove a lot then cross country etc. Since sixteen - never drove under the influence. Another time I was driving on the Hollywood freeway- during the summer - not a lot of traffic- in a Porshe 914 - and my hood malfunctioned and blew up in my face - cracked the entire windshield- created a weird kind of an air tunnel- lucky the hood did not blow off from its hinges- those cars were a POS- lucky again- exited the freeway- parked the car- walked to KFC. Had it towed later.- After eating- lol .I was 24 then- another one of my nine lives gone- not going to bore with other close calls while traveling on the water and in the bayous- Anyways to be young again! WORKING OFFSHORE- CRAZY CAJUN- LOL
Every time I drive over it I be hyperventilating. I grew up in Mandeville and live in New Orleans so I have to cross it pretty often. I moved to nola 6 years ago and it still makes me PANIC
This is a good bucket list item, but is it safe now with them crashing the bridges like the Baltimore one? I hope they have some security now to keep us safe.
I have to cross the I-10 bridge over Mobile Bay in Alabama every day, I can only imagine what it’s like for folks that have to drive over this beast daily😬I have always wanted to visit the Pontchartrain Causeway but I KNOW it’d freak me out because I can hardly handle the I-10 bridge that goes to New Orleans😂
You should take a look at some of the videos done with a zoom camera that show the opposite shore, there is a good video out there showing the power poles crossing the lake and sure enough 18 miles on the other side you can see the shore.
@@LouisianaDread omg yes it is! I remember my first time driving across it as an adult it was dark and a little foggy, it was like being featured in a movie, u just gotta drive and you CANNOT close your eyes 😂😱🫣
It has! The Mardi Gras Marathon was held on it from 1979 to 1984 because they couldn't get enough police to close off a street course in the city. It's far from ideal, though. Very boring, with no room for spectators and water stations except at the crossovers, and lots of problems with wind.
i’m from nashville tennessee but my boyfriend lives in Mandeville and I’ll be moving down there soon. not excited to drive over this thing by myself for the first time 😂 my boyfriend always drives on it for me cuz he grew up doing it
I've travelled this bridge. It's surreal - but I love it. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with some people. Like, if you can't handle driving over water (spoiler alert: born and raised on the coast), there's no hope for you.
For some with a level of driving anxiety it might not be about the water. Feeling ‘trapped’ on a seemingly endless bridge could do it, the vast flatness and expansive space could trigger agoraphobia. Just driving straight for so many miles, seemingly easy, can also trigger panic. It’s certainly surreal & I can only imagine how weird it would be if there’s fog.

Flat Earther and just asking why are you afraid of taking a photos of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway from the West or East side of the Lake at water level or from a helicopter from the North shore to the South shore? You do have helicopters in Louisiana? If not, just put a bigger blade on a swamp buggy and buckle up. Then, lay a rule and see how much the causeway curves. Are they just slow in Louisiana? Every coonass I've met seemed to be pretty intelligent. Maybe this idea of a curving bridge that loses 350 feet from one end to the other over flat water is from imported Californication imitation coonass?
Another butt-hurt flat Earther. I’m not surprised you’ve met intelligent people from south Louisiana because there are many. I haven’t met a flat-earther with a brain, unfortunately. Do you have a helicopter I can borrow?
OMG. Dude you can't see any curve on this bridge or the lake. Stop lying. Only rise and fall to this bridge is where boats can go under. In the damn video of you talking it's clearly flat with no 8 inches per mile squared like the globe claims. 😂😂😂 I'm from this area. Nice try buddy

I crossed the bridge to go to Metairie for something if y’all don’t know what Metairie is it’s a city near New Orleans
