    I've been using Dr Duck's guitar neck rest. It includes an attachment for a battery operated screw driver. That attachment is handy but you need to be careful with it or you could wind strings too tightly before you realize it. I use a bath towel for a mat. I also use string-tie bridgebeads for my instruments that require tying strings to the bridge. They make string changes go much faster and they look good as well.

      Thank you for sharing what works for you! I really value your opinion. Good pint about the automatic string winder. I would wear safety glasses 😂 to avoid a situation that would merit an eyepatch. I do love Dr Ducks ax wax. It’s super thick for the tough jobs.

      @@charley2269 I actually figured it out by watching a different tutorial...some tuners have different modes for different settings. I had to go to mode C for chromatic in order to tune them to the right note in the first place (because the strings come suuuper loose when you first get the uke), then go to Uc (ukulele) in order to tune them properly. I believe it was the Bernadette teaches music channel? Something like that. Thanks anyways!

      Hmmmm, is the tuning peg loose? Try tightening the screws on the sides or see if the peg itself it too loose. You could also try changing the string and see if that helps. If you do change one, it’s probably best that you change all of your strings. It also could be that your string keeps slipping because it is no longer secure on the tuning peg. If that’s the case, it’s best to try changing your strings. It’s hard to know for sure, but I hope that helps 😀.

    • @scottpetrie6179
      @scottpetrie6179 3 роки тому

      @@subliminallyshade Hi, it sounds as if your string action is set too low, it's easy enough to correct - loosen your strings until you can slide out the saddle, then cut a "shim" of paper or card that's the same size as the base of the saddle and place that in the bridge slot. Then replace the saddle, tighten the strings and tune up. If the strings still buzz, follow the same steps and add another shim of paper etc. By doing it this way the action is corrected and the buzz should be gone. Hope this helps. Happy playing and stay safe😊

    • @scottpetrie6179
      @scottpetrie6179 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Kei, it sounds like your Ukulele action is set too high. It's easy enough to fix, similar to Maria's problem, though you need to remove your saddle and sand it down on the base mm at a time and after each mm, replace into the bridge and tune up to check your action. If it need's a little more sand it down by another mm and so on. Use the finest sandpaper you can get and hold the saddle at 90 degrees to the paper. Your action will gradually get to a comfortable height for you that doesn't cause any buzzing from the strings. And don't worry if you sand the saddle down by too much (but I'm sure you won't) - new saddles can be bought very cheaply from a well known online store. All the best, Happy playing and stay safe.

    Can I oil the fretboard without taking the strings out? If yes, do I need to lift the strings a bit? I was about to purchase Fret Dr for the job. Have you tried it?
    Also, when I lift my finger off of a string, a soft sound comes from the string. I am not dragging the strings or even lifting it from an angle. Are my strings sticky ( they don't feel sticky though) and need a wipe down? Are they loose (even though stilll in tune). It happens to other ukuleles I have tried ( library rents them out). Just wondering.

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  5 років тому +1

      Good question. Yes, I’ve loosened my strings and pulled them to the outer sides of the fretboard and oiled my fretboard that way before. The second question is a little tricky because I do t have it in my hands. It could be that the strings are worn out and are worn where the frets come in contact with the string . I would try changing the strings to see if that helps. I hope that helps.

When the scratch is still there u go to the next agressive one. etc. When the scratch is gone u work u way back to your finest polish.

    I bought the 8-in-1 tool after watching your original video--great purchase. For working with sharp fret ends, I bought the StewMac fret end dressing tool...www.stewmac.com/Luthier_Tools/Types_of_Tools/Files/Fret_End_Dressing_File.html. Filing fret ends isn't something everyone is going to tackle--but some masking tape can help to make sure you don't cause damage.
    I generally just clean my frets with very fine steel wool before oiling the fretboard...fretboards are much harder than the rest of the ukulele and don't even show scratches!

Should I replace the string or do I keep tightening it?

    • @sww5043
      @sww5043 3 роки тому

      I feel your pain! There’s nothing quite as mentally “ouchy” as the sound of a new string snapping. Go to an online tuner and pluck each string to see how its sound relates to the sound coming from the online tuner. Now, listen closely, does your “A” sound lower or higher than that of the online tuner. If it’s truly lower, your A string should be able to take the tension to its correct tension. If it already sounds higher, you have passed the appropriate “A” and your tuner may be taking you to a higher A - whoa! An electric tuner can’t tell a low A from a middle A or a high A all octaves above each other. Loosen the string and start again. Your ear is the key to tuning. As well, new strings will stretch a lot before they stay in tune, so don’t be put off by that. Good luck, and happy playing.

    My E strings seems dead relative to the other strings. The Ukulele is about a year old. I bought it used. The E string is tuned, but relative to the other strings does not seem to ring out. • @OneMusicSchool

      I would say try changing your strings first and see if that helps. Over time, strings lose their “ring” over time. Even though you purchased your uke a year old, it could be much older depending upon when it was made and how long it was sitting in the wear house and/or the store. I hope that helps.

      I k ow what you mean. I’ve seen lots of guitar techs turn down installing strap buttons on ukes because they don’t have the bracing to hold a screw. It would be nice to see if there is something that can be done about that without ruining the instrument.

    Hi Katie! I have a bit of a problem with my ukulele. Its has those buzzing sounds in the E string and the A string, I tried looking at some vids but then it tells me to change my strings, unfortunately we are currently having quarantine in our country. I wanted to fix it by myself, but i actually have no tools and no money to fix it. What do you think should i do? Hopefully you could help me. Could you do or make a video in order to fix it? Or your response in order to fix ot would also be great. Thanks!
    Anyone else who have those problems? Pls comment below on ow you fixed it. Thanks!!!

      @@babo_kako1383 Hi, it sounds as if your string action is set too low, it's easy enough to correct - loosen your strings until you can slide out the saddle, then cut a "shim" of paper or card that's the same size as the base of the saddle and place that in the bridge slot. Then replace the saddle, tighten the strings and tune up. If the strings still buzz, follow the same steps and add another shim of paper etc. By doing it this way the action is corrected and the buzz should be gone. Hope this helps. Happy playing and stay safe😊

      It could be that it's too tight or too loose (too sharp or too flat) that it can't register as an E note. What does the tuner read as you play the string?

    Hey there,
    To my knowledge, all strings should leave the inside from the tuning pole to the neck.
    Video shows, the A- and E-strings are properly attached to the tuning pole.
    I think, however, the G- and C-strings are not correctly attached ...! at the tuning pole. (different angle of friction..!)
    What is your opinion?

    • @OneMusicSchool

      Hi, and thanks for watching. I hope I can answer your question. Some strings will be thicker to match different tones. The middle strings are supposed to be thicker because they produce a lower tone.

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, and thanks for watching. No, do not use any kind of oil whatsoever on your fretboard other than oil that is specifically meant for instruments. Anytime else will ruin your instrument. Castor oil is a kind of vegetable oil, and it will make your fretboard sticky and will eventually rot over time.
