As a man formerly known to have Aspergers, I *love* this movie and consider it one of Dustin Hoffmans best efforts (which means a lot)

Many people are complaining about this movie now. But, they miss the point. the movie isn't about autism. Autism is the vehicle used to bring out the humanity in Charlie, Tom Cruise's character. It's a road movie about Charlie finding his humanity.

When Raymond calls Charlie his "main man".... i cry every time.

    1. Hoffman really did fart in the phonebooth. Being professionals, they worked through it in character.
    2. For me, the first indication to me that Charlie starts caring for Raymond is the porch scene with the farm family.
    3. The casino would have swapped out the dealer before taking the step of kicking them out.
    4. The high-end hooker was just working, and it's doubtful she turned them in.
    5. I suspect Charlie has a bit of his "piece of work" father has just as Raymond got the
    completely different personalities. (mentally/emotionally)
    6. One of my top personal growth movies.
    7. Hopefully, Charlie will be less self-centered and toxic.

As far as smoking in public places , they started putting no smoking areas in restaurants in the 80's . But in the 90's until about 10 - 12 years ago , most of the areas in restaurants and bars were mostly no smoking with one small designated area for smoking , including allowing smoking on outside patios of restaurants and bars . But now , I don't think you are even allowed to smoke on the outside patios .

10:10 Excellent point by her. The initial thought of Charlie being entitled is easy to say ... "low fruit" first thing that most people say. But what she said was very important and a deeper way of thinking.

Those of us who do not know much about autism have been left with the stereotype of Rain Man and also with the boy in the movie Mercury Rising with Bruce Willis, as a symbol of autism, that's how they all are, that is, very uncommunicative people, always with their eyes lost and in their own world, or some are more communicative and look more in the eyes of the people they interact with?

Have a YT movie reaction channel and not recognizing Tom Cruise... that's conceptual.
I guess she was even less aware of the other actor's name?

Technology evolves. I’m sure people in the future will make fun of the technology we have now.

But what's the point of family if you can't exploit them? lol

Calling the cops on and sitting your child in prison for two days because he disobeyed is not parenting. It's not the same as that child getting in jail for a reason outside of disobeying. A parent who would use the cops to dicipline their child has lost the war to win a battle. I don't think your example was the same situation as his was.

He was particularly upset because that car was a big part of his connection to Ray--a son that he loved and had to send away.
