    Win11 uses a lot of UWP overlays and doesn't actually touch a lot of the actual code, things like the taskbar are now separate programs instead of being explorer.exe. Leading to a decrease in speed. I think they did this because it was easier to get the aesthetic they wanted so badly.

      You have to bare in mind that your scanners and printers were built for a older operating system. As time goes on and more things are released and built for windows 11 compatibility, windows 10 will become obsolete. Windows 10 have had years of updates to improve performance. Windows 11 will continue to receive improvements. They will stop updating Windows 10 day someday.

  • @animearsenalgaming

    One thing of note, Windows 11 currently isn’t as supported Windows 10, limiting 11’s niche and hampering the few advantages 11 has over 10. I’ve seen multiple reviews and comparisons and long story short, 11 is better for work/projects, while 10 is better for gaming while being the Jack of all traits master of none. With 11 not being as supported and taking up more ram and memory, it will generally mean games will run just as good if not worse than 10. Me personally, unless you’re into video editing and working online, there’s no reason to get 11 at this current time. We also have to keep in mind that you are forced to make a Microsoft account to even use YOUR pc with Windows 11 while giving up more personal data to MS. So for me there’s no reason to “upgrade” to an OS that has no current benefits over its predecessor in exchange for my data and privacy.

    • @Raivo_K
      @Raivo_K 2 роки тому +39

      Well benefits are different for people. For me it has the benefit of better dark mode (especially Task Manager) that saves my eyes (and my monitor when i move to OLED panel). Plus i just like the look of it better. It reminds me more of the 3D design before Microsoft moved to a minimalistic boxy design with Windows 10 (and 8 before that). Plus Windows Updates are up to 40% smaller. A noticeable difference when doing updates.

    • @animearsenalgaming
      @animearsenalgaming 2 роки тому +18

      @@Raivo_K and that’s fair. Aesthetically I agree with you on that. As for the update sizes, I never had a problem with the sizes to begin with, so that benefit is less pronounced for me especially since 11 still eats a little more ram than 10.

    I took Windows 11 for a spin recently, but the Window Desktop Manager still leaks a ton of RAM, missing features that are really annoying, the fact that Microsoft forces you more and more to use only their apps, etc. The Photos app in Windows 10 has the exact same menus as Windows 11, so Microsoft can easily make Windows 10 look like Windows 11, but would anyone then still be keen on a slower OS? Multi tasking became problematic and of the few games I play, some simply wouldn't work. I quickly re-installed windows 10 and that's where I'll be staying for now. Of course this is only my experience, others may have had a better outcome. That said, I honestly don't know why we even have 11, wasn't 10 supposed to be the last? At best the only issue I have had was Warframe performing worse overtime which then again that may just be the game itself considering I haven't taken the time to test it on Windows 10. Beyond that, I'll be sticking with Windows 11 for now, specifically for the appearance. I enjoy how things are a bit more rounded out and not just squares. If you are however looking for a decent Windows 11 solution that doesn't use a lot of RAM, then I would recommend Tiny 11. It's essentially just a very trimmed down version of Windows 11 and it runs quite decently. Only issues with it is that it doesn't come with a browser preinstalled and has compatibility issues with apps such as Steam. Otherwise, for now, you'll be able to stick with just Windows 10. Received my Asus Vivobook 15 i3 laptop last week. It was running sluggish from the first startup, win 11 is not for all PC's I think. Although I was not ready to change to win 10 before updating drivers and applying the latest windows 11 update. So I gave it some time, surprisingly, the laptop seemed to be working fine the next day... But again the day after, it began to show 100% disk usage all time, even when nothing was running in the background. Then I decided to install windows 10 with the media creation tool. And it took merely 8 hours to install( yes, it's sarcasm). At that time I was thinking that there might be some hardware issue with the specific unit I was sent. But, to my surprise the laptop started up quickly and after some important updates was booting in less than 10 secs, which was 1-2 mins in windows 11. 100% disk usage problem was solved right away, and I was running upto 5 applications in the background, like vscode , Chrome, etc.
    Final Verdict: If you have a beast of a machine, or at least have a decent cpu and GPU in 2022, it's upto you if you want windows 11 or not. But, if you do have a budget friendly PC like me, then don't leave the windows 10 team man. It's far better in my opinion.

    I would really say having lower ram usage at idle or number of tabs to 5 Gigs of RAM usage is necessarily a good indicator. Having things in memory isn't a bad thing if managed properly. Stressing it to how many tabs it can open in total could have been a better test in my opinion.

      Correct, used RAM is not a reliable metric to understand memory pressure for various reasons. MS does an awful job at communicating this within Windows, FWIW.

    Excellent video comparison. It's clear that within the Windows 11 development lab, Windows 11 developers are more concerned with synthetic benchmark usage, therefore many optimization is done when we throw synthetic workload to the computer.
    But, living in the real world, what really matters is real world usage tests. And guess what? Windows 10, the much more mature OS with more developed drivers and software edges out (pun intended) Windows 11 most if not all of the time.
    Of course, noteworthy to say, that both OS is so close to each other, that it's just seconds apart at most times.
    As of July 2022, Windows 10 is still the better OS for the working people who depends on their computer on a daily basis. Though it's not like upgrading to Windows 11 would mean the end of the world, but you don't have to FOMO because Microsoft is spamming you to upgrade from 10 to 11. Just use 10 until 2025, then upgrade to Windows 12.

Your estimate of the difference is about 10%. I tend to agree more with Trigr (ie "milliseconds" is fine with me - maybe 5% diff. by my counting). But anyway, the test itself took "a few" mp3 files and merged them - that's a fair test and only took about 5secs to process, so unless you're going to merge heaps of these things, an upgrade to Win11 isn't justified on this basis. Network connection would depend on the time of the day, and how much interference in the wifi you get from your neighbors, so it's difficult to say for certain which was fast.
    To counter this, you can set up a local server on a different machine and connect to it via ethernet through the router.

    The default UI of Window 11 looks awful, but has been stated that the start button can be moved to the right side. There is a tool from what I seen on LTT that can give a classic look of Window 7, but it does cost $5(may have changed since). Overall, I don't personally see a reason to switch to Windows 11 unless you're running a 12th gen CPU with E cores. As from what I watched Windows 11 Scheduler is more efficient.
    Though you can get Open Shell for free and make your windows layout look like Window 7 for Windows 10. There's also Chris Titus Debloat Windows 10 which can disable telemetry and more on Windows 10. Also I don't know from the couple of comments below it seem like Dark Mode is awful on Windows 10? I have no issue, but I also use Pro instead of Home so maybe that has something to do with it. I mean you can get a Pro License that works fine for $15(sometime less) and have dark mode if it isn't in Home for Windows 10.
    Plus, 3 years more of service. It doesn't make sense to rush to the next latest iteration of Windows. Heck, by time most Windows 10 user are forced to make that jump due to end of life, Windows 12 will be out and will hopefully be much better. I'll stick to 10 until there's a good reason to need to move on.

    • @marciusnhasty

      Dark mode isn't awful, it's just not as good. When dark corners become light corners on dark background in the dark mode, aliased rounded light edges in Win11 are easier on the eyes. And more of the standard Windows apps come with their own dark mode option rather than inheriting system settings, making new dark mode more customizable.
      Start can be moved to the left, right side still has the clock, notifications and tray.

    the reason windows 11 application opening is slower than windows 10 is because the build of windows 11 you used is a very early build and also since the animations are smoother in windows 11 they open slower on purpose, if windows 10 and 11 had the same animations and a newer build of windows 11 was used, windows 11 would've won most categories...
    Edit: Windows 10 is kinda faster than windows 11 but not for gaming and also WINDOWS 7 is the goat I recently downgraded from windows 11 to windows 7 and while app compatibility is bad, WINDOWS 7 is a LOT smoother and you could just use the windows 7 extended kernel to run some windows 8/10/11+ applications on windows 7... I heard someone was able to install microsoft windows terminal on windows 7 using the extended kernel...

I think it should have scored closer to 400 on single core, suggesting it was in battery saving mode, which would ruin the test for me. Is this true or is 195 a reasonable store for the CPU? you can change taskbar icon size with a registry edit. would be nice there was just an option in settings though. i usually just click twice to rename files and just extract all when i dl zipped folders. the right click menu is actually kinda nice though, since things like copy, paste are easier to do. before you'd have to find them in the submenu, but now they're icons in the first row.
