Great explanation on the process. Good video. I am installing a new re manufactured 4.0 today. This was very helpful. I also thought the music in the background was distracting. Not good tunes either.
I mean the music was definitely awful but at least he got to the point in under 2 minutes no fancy awesome 45 second intro or crap about giveaways just right to the point Thanks!
Thank you for that knowledge..not much out there about setting these electronic ones..just had one installed and couldn't set it and oil pump behaving erratic..maybe its not sitting right?? We'll find out tomorrow new years day !!! 2016...Thank you for any input on my situation..
I like the background noise ! Rock on ! Great info dude . The other guys videos are for #6 TDC sensor install ... Guess they didn't have a book to figure out TDC #1
If the engine is at top-dead-center (on the compression stroke) and you can't fit a tooth pick in the hole, then yes, the distributor/camshaft position sensor is out of alignment
The pulse ring is sitting just over halfway from the alignment hole. Turning clockwise of course. So that the pulse ring outer edge is almost parallel to the engine block.
Toothpick for the folks who forget to remove their alignment tool and they go give the motor a crank for some odd reason and break their parts, ALSO do not use zip ties on timing belts for the same reason hehehe. Thanks for the tip and by the way, I don't mind the music but I do worry about folks turning you in for copyright, and getting the video blocked is my only worry brother. I will guess that this Artist does not mind the free advertising.
Great tips Duane! and yes, the artist is all good with it, they already informed me (I just don't get paid for the video). Do you think she drives a Jeep ?
I had a camshaft position sensor code pop up after I got some gnarly death wobble one day. After that Jeep had no power, limped it home. Came up with 2 TPS codes leak detection pump code and misfire in cyl 2 code. I swapped out my TPS with 2 complete working throttle bodies so far still no change. So my question is do I need to listen to that song while I'm working on it this weekend and if so what is the name if that song? Lol
quick question... I know this is an older video but on that same side bundled with the harness going to the cam sensor do you have a yellow clip connector as well. I just put mine back together and have a yellow (on the inside) plug for the life of me I can't find where it goes and do not remember if it was not connected when I started removing stuff a month ago?
For top dead center can't you also just make sure the rotor is at the #1 position? If it is in the exhaust stroke and the balancer mark is at 0 then the rotor will be 180* from the #1 position.
.... except there is no rotor - they had gone to direct fire coil packs by this point. So what you are seeing in the video is strictly a cam position sensor that is used by the computer to get the fuel injection lined up. I'm demonstrating how to get the cam sensor properly installed after a complete tear down. Don't ya just love the music ?
Let me go ahead and ask a possibly dumb question: do I need to drain the oil first? It's right next to the filter and I don't really know how the sensor itself works or if it sits inside the oil or whatever. Thanks : P
In your "How to Install an AX15 Manual Transmission" video, Michael says that he didn't unbolt the CPS from the bell housing because he didn't want to mess with the CPS calibration. I didn't know that the CPS needed to be calibrated... does it? I was lucky to even get my hands up in there and get my CPS installed recently. I can't imagine being able to adjust it's position considering how difficult that job was. But after replacing my CPS, I'm getting P0300-Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected codes and wondering if I need to adjust it or try replacing the cam sensor or ignition coil next. ('96 4.0)
Thinking about this, did you remove the flywheel ? If you did, and put it back on, there is a chance the CPS got knocked a bit. Or if you changed flywheels it may be necessary to reset the clearance to the CPS. If you are in the States, O'Rielly sells crank position felts, they come in a pack of like 5. You stick the felt to the end of the CPS and push it into the hole until it's against the flywheel then tighten the bolts. The felt wears off instantly but provides the proper clearance so the CPS picks up each cylinder. BTW I once bought a replacement flywheel for an automatic trans behind a 4.0 from Pioneer (thru O'Rielly) and the damn thing was out of round so it only hit on 3 of the 6 cylinders. They gave me a new one but Pioneer refused the labor claim. Crooks.
Why not just install the new cam sensor "exactly" how the old one came out? It does not seem necessary to remove coil pack and set to TDC compression stroke, unless the crank somehow moved.
The background music was fine with me. The voice in the video was completely understandable. I don't understand how the sound of someone else's music can have such a tremendous negative trigger with some of the commenters. Is the music any worse to the ears than a busy restaurant, freeway traffic or air tools?
Yeah , I just did a bare block overhaul to mine and this is the only way to find the way to reinstall the oil pump drive / cam sensor drive back into a bare engine .
this is one of the few videos ive seen related to replaced the cam sensor where you remove the sparkplug and check that its on a compression stroke. wondering if its really necessary?
You have a 50/50 chance of getting it installed correctly if you don't make sure you're on 'TDC compression' and the only way to do that is to remove the spark plug and check for 'pressure' while turning the crankshaft- and ending at TDC
If I have the old sensor in, can I just align the key hole and replace the synchronizer? Bought a part from Carpart dot com and it some how bent the friggin thing. Ran for 30 minutes and just turned off. Don't ask me how it happened, cause I can't tell you. First install with a mishap, since high school!
Mark. I think that you're correct. Haha. I am going to see if I can get this part into my TJ. I do understand why the cam has to be in thee specified position. Just not sure of my full ability to get it there.
Got the part in. The misfiring codes went away, but the p 1391 is still coming up. Did the crank, cam, spark plugs, and not confused. At least all the other codes are gone.
Looking for informative vids on Jeeps and I respect and appreciate the people that take the time to help us. But man the music is extremely irritating as I am trying to pay attention to what you are instructing us to do. Do a narrative....don't try to be a disc jockey. Thanks.
How about doing one without the fucking music
lolllllllllll
I am thankful for this video, background music or not.
Simple and to the point. Thank you. Im swapping in a new long block motor and was not sure of the procedure.
Awesome ! Thank you for the comment
Great explanation on the process. Good video. I am installing a new re manufactured 4.0 today. This was very helpful.
I also thought the music in the background was distracting. Not good tunes either.
Glad it was of help. BTW, I don't think I could have accomplished this difficult procedure 'without' the music ! :-)
Mark Osborne LOL ok
I mean the music was definitely awful but at least he got to the point in under 2 minutes no fancy awesome 45 second intro or crap about giveaways just right to the point
Thanks!
hahahaha, my intent exactly !
Thanks, just what I was looking to learn.

rocknrolla74ever going on 2018 here bud!! Happy new year 2018!
I like the background noise ! Rock on ! Great info dude . The other guys videos are for #6 TDC sensor install ... Guess they didn't have a book to figure out TDC #1
thanks Nate---I seen a couple of those #6 videos too....left me scratching
I'm confused all videos are different tdc
thank you straight to the point
Chelo - thanks
Wow so if there is no hole or you can't fit a toothpick thru it then it's out of alignment?
If the engine is at top-dead-center (on the compression stroke) and you can't fit a tooth pick in the hole, then yes, the distributor/camshaft position sensor is out of alignment
This video saved my day.
It's a good song.
The pulse ring is sitting just over halfway from the alignment hole. Turning clockwise of course. So that the pulse ring outer edge is almost parallel to the engine block.
Thanks for the update. Were you listening to my video while fiddling with the alignment hole ?
Toothpick for the folks who forget to remove their alignment tool and they go give the motor a crank for some odd reason and break their parts, ALSO do not use zip ties on timing belts for the same reason hehehe. Simplistic,I like.
Isn't the music awesome ?
I don't care about the music, I found what I was looking for.
Good information, and correct. Having music in the background makes it terrible to try and listen to though.
....hahahahaha.... i love it

Like rocknrolla said, good video and one of the only ones I could find. As for the music, I could care less. Keep the videos coming.
will try !

so if i only pull cap can i juat put it back on the way it came off? or will tdc timing still be necessary?
Just put it back in the way she came out --- sorry for the late response !
Let me go ahead and ask a possibly dumb question: do I need to drain the oil first? It's right next to the filter and I don't really know how the sensor itself works or if it sits inside the oil or whatever. Thanks : P
You do NOT need to drain the oil, but you DO need to fire up some Beyonce
First, MUSIC...
Second, Annoyance...
Third, WHY!!!
Fourth, smh...

I had the engine completely apart. and for anyone who found themselves in a similar spot, they might want to know ;-) Do you just love the music ?
The background music was fine with me. The voice in the video was completely understandable. I don't understand how the sound of someone else's music can have such a tremendous negative trigger with some of the commenters. Exactly- some people just love to 'hate'
Yeah , I just did a bare block overhaul to mine and this is the only way to find the way to reinstall the oil pump drive / cam sensor drive back into a bare engine .

what in the fucking hell is he listening to?!
thanks for ur video ...it was so helpful forme
Glad it helped !

Yes
How did you get the sync set?
I set my sink with some silicone
thanks for ur video it was so helpful for me.....
MrSemen -you are the bomb ! (#abombofsemen)
Cant get them to align. On the compression stoke but it wont align. Cranked it manually but they wont align. Any suggestions?
Sorry buddy, the only thing I can suggest is to fire up some Beyonce and see if that helps
Turn that music off. I would love for you to redo this video but without all the background noise.
Wow music too loud
Were you moving to the groove ?
Yes lol
N this will stop the non start once she is warm instead of eating for it to cool off
That's correct, I usually 'eat for it to cool off'- that's why my waist is expanding.
You lost me at the 30 second mark because of that *#%{%}* noise in the background!!!
I'm all for listen to the radio while you're working but, if you're making a video turn the damn thing off.
Some of the comments about the music seems a bit ignorant.
Stephen, check out the number of views -- I think they keep coming back for the music !
Mark. I think that you're correct. Haha. I am going to see if I can get this part into my TJ. I do understand why the cam has to be in thee specified position. Just not sure of my full ability to get it there.
Haha. I will set up the PA system and rock it out. Thanks for the info.
Got the part in. The misfiring codes went away, but the p 1391 is still coming up. Did the crank, cam, spark plugs, and not confused. At least all the other codes are gone.
Stephen -Did you properly set the gap between the crank sensor and the flywheel ?
This music is horrid. I wanted to die rather than listen to it
please don't die !... rather, fire up some Beyonce and rock on :-)
Holy shite with the music
Why don't u kill that music so we can hear u😁
....bet you have that awesome song stuck in your head now :-)
Turn that damn radio off
CAN YOU DO ME A FAVOR AND TURN THE MUSIC UP!!
just putting this out there but beyonce is fine n i love the music jajaja
I couldn't agree more :-)
I’m dizzy from watching this
Watch it one more time, only this time, hold onto your chair :-)
عرب ما فيه نفهم منهم ؟
I suppose you're another fan who loves the music but can't figure out Arabic so thanks for dropping by :P
that music though.. ugh!
you know you love it :-)
Looking for informative vids on Jeeps and I respect and appreciate the people that take the time to help us. But man the music is extremely irritating as I am trying to pay attention to what you are instructing us to do. Do a narrative....don't try to be a disc jockey. Thanks.
god that's good stuff ...hahaha
My freaking ears!
You know you love it :-)
Lol
Dam good jams,not
Fuckin music
when I ear this music , I stopped immediately to watch . sorry...............
Glad to know you stopped to watch !
Music sucks!
....you know you love it !
You need to turn your stupid music off in the background and slow your roll dude
I'm trying to get my replaced but when i turn the wheel to the mark in the pulley it doesn't line up the camshaft what am I doing wrong?
I'm sorry, I wish I could help you
