so yeah audio recording quality is kind of weird BUT its much, much better in the next part. And once I release the complilation of all parts, this part will have improved audio so don’t worry :)
Never played Mario Kart Tour, but I recently watched your B3313 video and liked your style. Therefore I am here. This video makes me wish I had given Mario Kart Tour a chance, haha. I always ignored it because I thought it was just a cashgrab game, and I already had MK8 and MKWii. Had a lot of fun watching this video. Great job!
well yeah, they have to make money somehow. The problem is the execution. Tour’s microtransactions would be acceptable if the prices and the resources you get in return were reasonable, but they’re not.
@@fryingpansamI'll agree the prices are atrocious. The $5 a month Gold Pass is the only thing maybe worth thinking about getting. The game's really F2P friendly if you don't take it too seriously or plan on getting into playing ranked though
Yeah, it feels like every time I see someone "review" a mobile game, it's like they've never seen a mobile game before and go "real money to spin the gacha?! what the hell? that's insane! I've never seen that before!" Like it's not great that it's becoming normalized, it's never been great, but bro mobile games (and most any free to play game) have been doing this for ages. Granted, then I saw the prices on the ruby bundles and holy shit lmao I forgot how _transparently fucked up_ it is that the lowest investment doesn't even get you a _single_ roll. Like this is another traditional microtransaction trick, always leave them with just a little bit of currency in their wallet so they feel like they need to "fill it up" to make it right, but god _damn_ it, you can just _see_ that each of those tiers was designed to keep you _one ruby off!_ That's fucking ridiculous man, at least put the mask on a LITTLE bit.
I love mkt, and have been playing since early 2020 (it was the tour before the mario tour that year). I have seen mkt evolve overtime, and I have had some great memories (especially when I got to play in some mankalor streams). I am mostly free to play, as in, I got the gold pass a couple times with gift card money (I got gift card money for a christmas present at the beginning of 2022, and at one point I actually won a $10 gift card in an mkt time trial contest (technically I was supposed to get $5, but the minimum gift card price was $10)). Being f2p was actually not as bad as some may think. I was able to save up my rubies, and get good stuff in the pipes. Heck, at one point I was only getting 2 or 3 10 pipe pulls per pipe, and many times I got the spotlight driver (heck, once I got all 3 spotlight driver / kart / glider in my first 10 pull, and I still remember I got chargin chuck and the burger kart). 2022 might actually be my favorite year. Yeah, during 2021, I was playing in some of mankalors streams, but 2022 was just a massive year for me and mkt. I started uploading mkt clips on my channel, and gained 300 subscribers from it. Every tour when a new track was introduced, I would record a gameplay of every version and upload them to my channel. I kept that up for a while. It was really fun to be there as soon as a new tour got released, because I was always one of the first to upload the tracks to yiutube. One tour, when the servers were having trouble letting people in, I was able to get a recording of some tracks before nintendo shut down the servers for unexpected maintanence (which solidified me as one of the first people to record tracks from that tour). One thing I really enjoyed was being able to play multiplayer with my dad quite a lot. I just had so much fun beating him, even though he was S+6 (he actually payed for the gold pass). I love mkt so much for how much fun I had playing the game, uploading clips, and playing with my dad. The downsides really didn't matter, because I was having fun grinding for the highest score. You have no idea how amaxing I felt when I got over 10k points on a track for the first time (now I get 20k average). I haven't even mentioned the fact that I am kind of a dataminer (I extracted the game's files, and uploaded audio dumps, until mkt stopped recieving content updates anyway).
The thing I hate about how people who hate tour think, is that they always say it's bad, only looking at what it was like at launch. Nowadays, the game has gotten so much better, even removing the gatcha mechanics. Also, people see the microtransactions as a pay to win feature, not even knowing about how many rubies mkt gives you for free (seriously, new players get tons of rubies, and if you come back after a while, idk the time frame, mkt gives you 300 as a welcome back bonus). I've been able to consistently get around 100 rubies every tour, if I actually try.
As a still regular player who skipped the awkward start (I started right befor the Berlin tour) and having loved your skin ranking, I'm looking forward to watching the whole thing and it's off to a great start! One thing it misses (and I don't blame you since it seems you were F2P only) is the most effective way to get the most bang for your buck: instead of making the gold pass $5 per month, make it $5 per 8 weeks by buying it the last day of a tour, that way you can eventually get 4 tours worth of rewards instead of the intended 2 to 3. Again, this seems like it'll be a nice watch, going to look at the next parts right away!
Very enjoyable video, I played Tour for about 3 years before I quit and it's nice to see a fair review of the game(it doesn't deserve it imo but it's still nice to see)
ey I dig it. I played tour for only a month or so, the microtransactions just annoyed me to no end and the gameplay got stale really quick for me. But, I do really enjoy watching people talk about tour for some reason, so keep up the good work (or else).
It’s kind of baffling that Fire Emblem Heroes doesn’t get a mention here. FEH in its first year made 5 times the revenue Mario Run did despite being based on a much less popular IP, it’s why Animal Crossing Pocket Camp, Pokemon Masters and Mario Kart Tour all have gacha mechanics.
didn't bring up FEH because I haven't played it and I didn't want to get too off topic and make the intro longer than it is. But I can see how its relevant to mkt tho
I've only played Mario Kart Tour once or twice a couple months after it released. I wasn't interested in it because I kinda preferred Mario Kart on other consoles
Mario Kart Tour should not be compared with the actual Mario Kart games. Also, nice SMW Custom Music Pastal Winds!!! From various Super Mario World Romhacks!!!!!!!!!

Not defending the practice but it just baffles me that in 2024 people still expect free mobile games to SOMEHOW not have microtransactions or ads.
well yeah, they have to make money somehow.

Then it honestly should have been a paid game.

I believe you neglected to acknowledge the existence or massive profitability (dwarfing Mario Run) of Fire Emblem Heroes.
