Both gorgeous machines. Harley’s best IMO. I love them both, just prefer the all blacked out on the 883. Oh and the low end is like getting kicked by a horse lol. Thanks for the vid

I sold my Honda hornet 599. Next bike I would like a Harley. I've avoided Harley like the plaque cause they are not my style bike. But when I saw the Sportster. I was hooked. These are one of the most pimp bikes I've ever seen. No wonder they been around for so long. I plan to get one soon. Thanks for the review.

I just bought the 2019 48', same one in this video. As a veteran rider I had to get the 1200, good comparison video, though you left out 2 important details 1:aluminium heads vs. iron heads(help with cooling the engine) and 2: The wider forks to accommodate the bigger front tire are an upgrade, they greatly improve handling, and are taken from the aftermarket community who was already swapping out front ends from Dyna's onto sporties!! Cheers!!!

Money was an object. I would have really liked to get a 48, but settled for the more traditional style of the iron 1200. That bike was 2000 bucks less. But, every time I see a 48 my heart races. You gave the review justice. The biggest complaint I always laugh at is people bitching about the peanut tank. Some forget that the sportys base fuel tank was the 2.1 gallon peanut for years after 1982 XLX up to mid 90’s. I remember my brand new 1986 black 883 at 3995.00 out the door pricing. First year EVO small twin. Woohoo, and away I went.
If I had one complaint it is that when sportsters went to rubber mounting, HD solid mounted the handlebars to the steering head as opposed to the original headsets using various urethane bushings in the little risers that the bars mounted to. That small quarter inch movement makes a lot of difference quelling vibration.
But, they are cool bikes and immortalized the 48 by this model being the only 1200 left in 2022 lineup and gone in ‘23.
Love the sportster both great bikes the aftermarket is unlimited on what you can do with them 👍

The head light grill is on backwards the shutters are meant to not have the light blind on coming traffic
Keep in mind that the Iron 883 with its narrow front tire is a lot more nimble around town. The 48 will be smoother at highway speed. (More cushioning).

@MarvelKid87 you can always go to harley and have then install the 1200 kit. You'll come out cheaper that way instead of a new bike.
The only thing better to me about the 48 compared to the Iron as they stand is the bigger engine and the fat front tyre, but you can custom both onto an Iron without any problem (which Im planning to do to my Iron), so because of that I think the Iron is the cooler bike overall.
48 looks cool but bigger engine and small tank would drive me crazy! Just get a bigger tank or an 883! Both good looking!

I’ve gotten to 171.3 miles on a full tank before my gas light came on. 93 octane and fill up is $7.10 on complete empty to full here in south Texas.

Harley is notorious for disregarding the aesthetic appeal of how and where they mount the instrument gauge on the Sportster lineup. Just look at the older models even into the early 2000’s. That slight difference of angle on the 48 is a bit helpful. The blacked look of your 883 makes it a non talking point really though. Love the headlight grill man!

Great video but keep in mind that the suspension is not the same. The fork on the 48 is thicker.

Iron starts at around 15k here and wages are a quarter. Good deal. Gotta save for one for like a decade lol
Huge difference is the fuel tank capacity. The Iron 883 has 3.2 gallon tank, will take you approximately 150 miles until you have to fill up. The 48 has a tiny 2 gallon tank. You have to fill up less than every 100 miles which is super annoying if you're trying to travel any kind of distance.
I love my 48. that old school vibe. i just carry a gas container on my back pack just in case...

The 1200 motor has waaay more power all throughout the power range from 0-forever.I had 4 sportys and 3 dynas so far and do all of my own work from a-z.The heads on the 1200 have bigger valves and jugs.

Forward controls are much more comfortable and fairly easy to install. The forks are different.

I love the iron 883 more but I’m 6’1 some people say I won’t fit good but I’m going to sit on it at the Harley store also eventually want to do the 1200 kit for it

48 has more power overall, low and high end. Totally different bike I’ve had both.

Just get the iron upgraded with a 1200 kit. Costs less than the 48 and you get a better-looking bike :)

@@69FOSTER if you have a warranty you care about, Screamin Eagle... if no warranty or you don't care, FP3. I went with SE to maintain my warranty, after warranty is up in a couple years, I'll be looking into a better tuner

Yeah you can take the iron tank and put it on the 48 kind of defeats the purpose of the bike but you can go to the gas station lesser times
The difference also is that the 48 does have a smaller gas tank so you’ll save more gas with the iron 883 if I’m not mistaken

the 48 is the only Sposter in the line that has that small ass tank stock. If it had the normal tank I would be 48 all day

I believe the 48 is 6 speed and the iron is a 5 with shorter bearing which is y people do the 1200 conversion on the crazy torque

There will come a time when sitting on loud pipes isn't your thing......my brother use to continuously want to ride my stock pipes and me ride his loud pipes, I quit doing that trade and he basically quit riding cause he can't take those pipes.....and changing them would be saying he made a mistake

Forward controls are really only better on longer rides, highway pegs work just as good
I rode on a 48 stock seat, I had sat on them before thinking they were pretty good but less than 15 min and I want off
Let's not forget the fat front tire(you didn't), I really like how fat front looks but handling sucks compared to 19in semi-skinny or 21in skinny
I haven't ridden 883 fi, but carb riding around 60mph you'll get 60 mpg.......on my 1200iron, constant 60-65mph I got 123 miles on 2.314gal......normally it's about 100 miles before light cause of more speed up slow down
