Thanks! I've used all of your videos in preparation for a midterm on the subtypes of Dysarthria.
Thank you and I have found this video very helpful. I am a second year SLP student
Dude, you are awesome!. Very Inspirational. I'm a SLP from Chile, and have a SLP channel too (in spanish).
Your video does an excellent job of reinforcing the learning I'm doing around motor speech disorders, so thank you! I second the comment below, and also want to thank you for expressing your thoughts on Gumbel's ableism and pointing out how problematic it is - AND how The Greatest was not having any of it.
Thanks from a speech pathologist💕❤️🐾
Hey pls make video on apraxia too
Help! Im 26 yrs old & Ive been experiencing this. It happens for 2 days long at every 2 weeks since the past 2 months :(
Hello, Perhaps take a recording when it happens and then take it to a speech pathologist or doctor. Might not be anything to worry about but might as well check!
@@johnepierce noted & thank you. Hope its curable cuz it happen at certain period of time which is weird. & when it happen it wont go away for 2 days straight. It is annoying when im at work sounding like a toddler when talking to a customer.
so sad for mark clip seeing him as former orthopedic most take him alot of hard work and ending with this uncurable dx
can strokes affect the basal ganglia and thus lead to hypokinetic dysarthria?
Yes! That's what vascular parkinson's/parkinsonism refers to at 1:20. Typically it is many very small infarcts over time but larger strokes can also cause hypokinetic dysarthria if they bilaterally affect basal ganglia.
@@johnepierce thankyou! I’m currently studying speech path (2nd year) and find your videos very helpful!
Hypokinetic And spastic dysarthria difference
If hypokinetic means reduced movement, why does the person present with rapid speech?
Valerie Perez That's due to festination which is a feature of Parkinson's. I'm not sure what the mechanism of festination is outside of just saying it's dopamine-related. But movement basically means range here, and decreased range means you can complete more phonemes per unit of time. E.g. You can do more push-ups in a minute when you cheat and don't go all the way down.
At least, I imagine that's a likely cause as festinated speech goes hand in hand with underarticulation.
It's reduced movement within the articulators, so for example the tongue may not make it all the way to it's target location
When you say he is running all of his words together, is there a special term for this?
Yes, festinating speech.
@@johnepierce thank you! Such a helpful video 🙂
