Excellent video my man, covered all the necessary points with enough detail. And that little gem about creating harmonic relationships between drum sounds was a mind blower. Thank you!
Dude i just want to say you're one of the better music production fellas on the tube, you do the review-thing right. it doesn't sound like a sales pitch, its a genuine, 'does this do something new' and - even better - channels it through your own personal workflow. ive bought a half dozen things from your reccos and i think thats 3x more than any from channels that are like 10X bigger than yours.
I want this and I'll be watching it like a hawk. It would take me a good hour to do what you achieved in minutes. The workflow... omg... It's so worth the money once I have it. That groove is hurting my soul it's got so much groove.
I laughed so hard at 2:37 that I almost pulled my wallet and bought the plugin, but I found out right in time I can not afford it. Still a golden moment Sir.
Best review I've seen on this. Thank you MG. I'm going to try it out for the 10 day trial. If I buy it I'll use the link you provided for sure brother.
Inspiring plugin for sure. Just started using it. It makes sense to render stems for mix but the whole beat render sounds so much better for some reason
I know compared to other programs it could be seen as expensive but if you really think about it that is super inexpensive for what we get. The amount put into programs is took countless hours to create. Completely worth it. I own every program out there for creating drums and this just creates great results faster than anything else. Worth every penny.
Thank you for this review. I bought this last night without getting the demo first and I was so disappointed when I saw that you can only use 2 bars worth of patterns. But thanks to you i now know that i can export the midi into my DAW and continue my drum variations from there. God bless you sir. I was on my way to asking for a refund.
So this is basically UVI Drum Designer + Atlas. Not a bad combo, I do wish we had more than one bar for patterns like with UVI. And searching through sounds looks friendlier with Atlas. But the XO workflow is great. I'm going to check it out today. Thanks MG.

Sorry for the long comment but here it goes: I've been wondering lately why working with Maschine doesn't inspire me as much anymore and I think this video helps tease out the last bits I was having trouble articulating. The reality is that a lot of what made Maschine special 10 years ago no longer applies to 2019 (and beyond). We don't need tactile control over chopping/editing samples and drum loops because we have Serato Sample to do all that in one click. We don't need a dedicated groove sequencer because most DAW's have caught up and handle sequencing much better now. And now we don't need deep file system and library organization because the AI in XO/Atlas lets us just use our ears to quickly find what we are looking for, regardless of the file's name or metadata...this stuff actually just completely turns the old file system hierarchy on its head and looks at searching in an entirely new way. I gotta say, this is causing a real kind of existential crisis for me! I've been married to Maschine's workflow for so long and designed so much of my core process around it that it's almost become an instrument of its own. If XO was introduced at a $99 intro. price point, I honestly would've impulse bought it tonight and started integrating right away. $180 is just a bit too far out of reach right now! Native Instruments better get on the damn horse and start leveling up soon cause there is just way too much cool stuff out here!
I took the time to organise my presets properly (Preset Wizard to import plugin presets as nksf presets and generate images for them) and I'm using Maschine a lot more again now because it's so much quicker to find and tweak a preset. Knobs > dragging things with your mouse
How’d I suffer through 5 annoying slash useless videos on this thang trying to suss if it was any use when I already have Atala before finding this MGTF back catalogue DIAMOND, God BLESS 🙏
Wassam MG! It doesn't show you the key of the drums but from what I saw from another vid is that the 'space' from left to right is essentially the frequency spectrum and from up to down its tone/length. When filtering by category (kick, snare, etc.) you can then choose the frequency range and pick with your ears what tonally sounds good. That's the real game changer for me, picking sounds that has their own space on the frequency spectrum to avoid headaches later in the mixing phase. Adding a key analysis to streamline this even further would be super dope! I consider this like the Scaler of drums Thanks for the vid btw!
final got mine just need to learn the sequencer quirks since I am not into pre fab beats .. I am into creating my own beats with my own sounds or selected fav sounds
Great review. It's only pricey if you think it's not worth it. If not, then of course it's too much. On the other hand, if it makes you more creative, if it gets you to beats and tracks faster and more intuitively, then $180 is PERFECT. It all depends on HOW MUCH IT HELPS YOU. I'm demoing it right now, and it's blowing my mind, and I WILL somehow find the 180 quid in 9 days. Cheers.
Grrreat tutorial, basics and beyond with a real world workflow and a spotlight on sample (library) 'curation'. It is so tempting to load, say, 100+ Gb into XO's sample 'cloud' but (a) at some point performance suffers (b) outside genre samples rarely add value unless it is a lucky accident. I like your themed approach in which you only select the libraries compatible with the project you want to work on, it also fixes/prevents a and b. To enable a lucky accident/quasi-serendipity you could include 1 or 2 outside genres from other libraries so you might stumble upon something _phresh_! I found out quickly it is pretty easy to drag the XO sequenced midi and the 8 processed samples (via Processed kit button) into an Ableton drumrack which for me is a best of both worlds scenario. I still have to dig a little deeper in XO but I already found myself validated into having purchased a pretty sizable collection of sample libraries; without tools like XO or ADSR sample manager 99,99% of your sample collection will just sit there eating up hard drive space. I say validated but having an extensive sample collection and a tool like XO make you realize that there is so much overlap in single shots you might have well settled for 50 or so sample collections. Probably even a lot less than 50... For those interested in buying XO: XLN often (enough) runs promos like 'Black Friday' and Xmas in which the price of XO is seriously lowered, that's what I do for all plugins I covet, get myself on the relevant mailing list and wait for the perfect opportunity! Cheers!
Thank you for this incredible video ! Quick question : I am facing a problem with xo : when i export processed samples (with effects applied in xo, for exemple filters or pitch correction), the volume of the exported samples never matches the volume directly heard from XO (from output busses), even with the differents normalization settings. This is very annoying as I usually tweak the sounds and mix them within XO before exporting them. I was wondering if you came across this issue and if you found a way to correct it ? Thank you if you take time to answer :)
Thanks for the review!. Everything is so well thought, however, only two patterns?... I hope they update it at some stage making it possible to work on more than 2 patterns at a time
Thank you for the informative video .I have had this a couple of days .I have other drum applications which are good .This has a smoother work flow .The link pattern sequencer .A,B and AAAB is a little limited I think .To make longer drum sequences could be better like the Sugarbytes Drum computer .Quite pleased nonetheless !

The new Loopcloud is amazing, absolutely amazing. But it doesn't do what this does they're completely different. Also ADSR Sample Manager has been updated and is free which is cool because it got a random option. But it's random not an algo based on your current selection and there is no sequencer and midi folder export which makes XO nutty.
such a great video man!!! thanks so much for doing this. I have a question about dragging and dropping into my DAW. Is there a way to do this without creating duplicates in an export folder every single time I do this? Best, James

Hello there, I'm doing orchestration and writing with what I have. Is this just for producers or can film, documentary, short clips be used with XLN Audio XO?
As someone with basic knowledge of AI, they would probably identify analog drums/subs by looking for proximity to pure waves typically a sine - as acoustic and modern digital drums are mostly going to have much more irregular body waveshapes.
