    Thank you for the explanations of the modes on the Crane. I have been practicing all weekend but the modes weren’t very clear to me. I must say that I really love this over the Ronin S which I found its form heavy for my skinny arms. I also recently sent the Weebil back because it was to small to handle the EOS R well. With the Crane I have been able to my EOS R along with my Tamron 24-70 G2 wiki has is a heavy lens. I just have to remember to retract the lens when I shut down the Crane or the camera topples over. LOL

    I have a Ronin for my 5D (hate it). I have an EVO GP Pro for my GoPro (LOVE IT). Was thinking about buying the EVO Rage 3 but sorted as this Zhiyun looks a bit more capable. I do residential photography and ronin is horridly uncomfortable and difficult to setup. Plus is has no controls on it (lest you spend more money). Perhaps it's more cabable in other reguards than these as it is quite expensive but it's not very practical. The EVO is for run and gun stuff that' doesn't require all that much quality of a higher end camera. And I LOVE it, despite a couple quirks (motors are noisy, and blocks gopro power on button but with voice on not a problem).

    I'm debating between this gimball and the ronin S..I would appreciate some insights if any...most youtubers won't answer cause they are sponsored, and it's frustrating that a direct answer is not given...

    • @TrillDistic
      @TrillDistic 5 років тому

      Aye bro...if you get any info anywhere please respond to me here because that's my exact dilemma. I'm saving my nickels for the Ronin S and then saw this one and u have put the same question on multiple reviews and I'm currently waiting on some feedback

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  5 років тому +4

      At the moment, the Crane 3 is my favorite gimbal because of the 2 handed design and locking motors. The app on the Ronin S is better and build is slightly better. For now (Its fast changing) Crane 3 is ahead in my opinion.

    • @bluestilling101
      @bluestilling101 5 років тому +1

      I am not sponsored and I will give you my honest opinion because I know someone that uses the Ronins S. I just recently purchased this Crane 3. I love it. My friend who uses the Ronin S also like the Zhiyun Crane 3 better than the Ronin S. Get the creative package and you will have absolutely no regrets.

    • @bluestilling101
      @bluestilling101 5 років тому

      @Arvid Kracht Hey Arvid. I asked him what did he like better about the Ronin S? He stated that he like the Ronin a lot but if he had to do it all over again, he would have definitely waited for the Crane 3. Especially for the ease in balancing the gimbal as well as the unique style of the handle. Not that the Ronin is difficult, but the Crane offers more versatility, especially in really tight spaces. He also thinks that the motors are stronger on the Crane 3, so the stabilization is just a tad bit better looking. Of course you will know how you plan to use your gimbal more than anyone else. I spent quite a bit of time watching the reviews before I made my choice. I tend to dive deep into the research.

    The question i have is some lenses when you zoom they change size, so when you balance and then start doing zooming wouldnt it offset the balance?

    • @photoshopcafe
      @photoshopcafe  5 років тому

      Yes. The lens I'm using has an internal zoom so it doesn't offset the balance of the gimbal, some lenses will change the balance, so I would only use the zoom for effect but shoot at a the same fixed focal length most of the time. To be honest, it's rare that I change the zoom, but its nice to have that option, usually for events.

    I know this is an older vid, and thank you for making this review. But, in some of your close-ups of the harp player the use of stabilization software in post-prod is visible. This leads me to believe that the crane is really not an all-around, super smooth cinematography tool? I am assuming that its smoothness really depends on the user's movement (feathering your steps, working out of your knees etc.) and what frame rate you are shooting in. Not sure if you are answering comments, but for 24fps fiction-film projects you'd probably want to go with something much more stable and more expensive? My next assumption is that a tracked dolly or slider will probably always get you the better moving shot in a 24fps project than a stabilizer?

    • @morphedrenegade
      @morphedrenegade 4 роки тому

      Hi Dennis,
      Hope you don't mind me asking, what gimbal would you personally recommend for mainly 24fps (+ higher fps) shorts/cine/slowmo/b rolls/wedding movies, there will be very rare run n gun scenes but have factor that in.
      I was torn between DJI Ronin S and Z crane 3 Lab. Is ther anything else within similar budget you'd recommend?
      Thanks.

    • @machinegunyelly6944
      @machinegunyelly6944 4 роки тому +1

      @@morphedrenegade hi there, to be honest, that's a really tough question. Right now I am working for some fiction projects with the Zhiyun Crane 3, some small rig attachment options to mouth accessories, like my ninja 7. It takes practice to get the shot setup and executed correctly, tons of trial and error. To be honest an actual dolly or slider would still be your best bet. For everything else, like weddings, or real estate you can trust the stabilizer in 60p for some smooth shots, however for 24p fiction, or 24p in general, I am not convinced. I tried using the setup for doc shooting too, and I always found the better frame either via shoulder mount, or entirely handheld, since doc is often true run and gun. So, not sure if that answered your question at all, apologies upfront if not. "Edit" what it comes down to is picking your frame upfront, work closely with a story board and allow ample time to film your scenes/shots, working with your legs, knees and feather your movement, plus do it all very slowly so you don't jerk the gyros. Time to work out too! Some additional arm grease, especially your forearms will help a lot. All in all, it can be done with enough practice.

      @@machinegunyelly6944 Thank you so much for your reply and you absolutely correct because I did think that it also makea difference how it is handled. Much apreciated. Thanks again.

I assume it is standard threading, to fit most articulated arms, but need to be sure... 2. when you use the REC button on gimbal, does gimbal show a "record" light, word or anything that would let me see my A7iii is actually recording? Can't always see the small red REC on the back screen of camera, especially in sunny outdoors situations... And sure can't hear the "beep" either. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

It's a fairly heavy lens, do you think that combo can be balanced and held up by the Crane 3 when the zoom is fully extended? It's max payload is almost 10 lbs. @@darryltinney5142 When I did weddings by myself, I had two cameras recording, One with my steadicam and other on a tripod. I relied on the audio from the stationary camera. Then I invested in a zoom h4 which made my job easier. Today I use three or four cameras when I film a wedding.
      Good luck to you.

      It was for professional only and priced only for the professional(if my memory serves me correctly it was $several thousand).
