I hate a rottie who LOVES to go for runs! Sadly after a surgery I wasn’t able to keep up with her enthusiasm. But this sounds like something right up our alley! Thanks guys!
Thank you for putting this video together it was exactly what I was looking for. I completely agree that it is difficult to find a single source with all the information like you both have pooled together. I look forward to seeing more videos. I have just started bikejoring with my two Bouviers and we were struggling a bit with how to tie them together... very much looking forward to our next time out with neck lines.
A few months back I bought my new Vizsla puppy and she loves to run. I’m 70 so I’m not much into running with her and recently started riding my MB with her. I quickly learned some do’s and don’ts about riding with dog on leash, but no accidents. I had never heard of bikejoring and found your video today. Great job and thanks for the video. I like my dog on my left and she naturally runs to the front left of me. I’m going to try the antenna and see if it will work. I’m also looking for a bungee leash to keep some constant tension for when she slows down. Again, Thanks for the video!!
Great video! Very detailed, just what i was looking for :) I just wanted to point out one thing about the lunch break. When the dog is exhausted, You should to wait a bit before You feed Your dog (~30 minutes) and after feeding them You should also wait a bit before You start an intensive exercise. Otherwise it may cause a gastric dilatation aka twisted stomach. This is a seriuos life threat to Your dog and may require an urgent surgery. Some breeds, that have a higher depth to width ratio of the thorax (such as weimaraners, pointers, sighthounds etc) are significantly more likely to acquire this condition. So be careful folks! Do not give a full meal to Your dog while it's exhusted. Take a short break, do some petting and then give Your boy or girl some nutrition but keep in mind that You should give them a smaller portion at once. Cheers!
Very informative! I'm a complete newbie! My shepherd is only 5 months old so I've got a lot of time up my sleeve to learn as much as possible before giving this a crack!
Thank you. My dogs a puller. Accidentally thought up this idea of bikejoring before I found out it was called this. Found out it's not as crazy as I thought. Getting an adult tricycle for this venture. Will be making videos soon. Glad I'm not insane and going forward with your experience as a starter. Thank you.
Great video guys…very informative. I have a four month old husky and am an avid mountain biker. Once he turns one year I’m looking forward to bikejouring! It’s going to be hard to wait until he’s old enough!
I started bikejoring with my GSD Malinois cross in December 2020 and I was given a good tip for removing her non stop freemotion harness that some others may not have picked up on yet. I found that she is fine getting into the harness as you show in this clip but really didnt like having her legs pulled out of the 'arm pits' as in a reversal of how you put it on. Someone suggested getting her to put her head down and just push the whole thing off her and let her just step away from it. Works very well, and if your dog is resistant to putting its head down just put a few treats on the floor.
Very helpful video. I’m just getting into this as a way to exercise my dog who just loves to run. I started with a walking harness and a flexi lead attached to my hip belt pack. I had been teaching my dog to just run on my right side. I realize I totally had the wrong harness but my initial goal was not to have her pulling. Since she likes this so much, I’m now ordering all the equipment you recommended to transition to proper bikejoring. The part about how to easily put the x back harness on was really useful.
I've done this with pitbulls, shepherds, collies and mixed breeds! Its great and will change the way your dog behaves (much calmer and less distracted) highly recommend it
I really really appreciate this video. I could not find anything for the life of me. I get back home from deployment in a couple of months and I’m exited to start exercising my four huskies this way. Thank you for the informative video, thank you for the links included for the products. Very thankful fellas.
Nanaimo, my big ol' newfoundland mix pup will be ready to" bikejor" soon. Admittedly, I am researching super early. Thank you guys for all of your content. You are a wealth of information!
I’m just starting my dog I bikejoring and then leading into kick sledding in the winter. This was very helpful and comprehensive!! Thank you ever so much!
Really enjoyed your video. As many others have said, most informative - I was raised with dogs, but now am considering bikejoring with my own bearded collie. Can’t wait to get started - thank you so much for putting this together
Thank you for all great info! In a couple months I plan to get a babby Husky and when he’s bigger would love to go biking with him and thanks to you guys I now know the way!
This is a great video. I had always run with my Husky Max 🐺 and had just begun to take him out whilst on my bike and just sort of hashed together his long bungee lead with my bike with varying successes when he became ill and eventually we had to have him euthanized. Obviously as a family were devastated but we are now at a point where we're looking to rescue another dog and Bikejor is something I'm really keen to use as fun/exercise and this vid' has answered all of my questions and was so easy to follow. I'd like to thank you guys for such a good job, really looking forward to getting out there now. 👍
Thanks for such a nice overview! I read a lot about sledding and dryland, but quite a while ago (~8 years ago), so this video was very helpful to refresh my memory :)
I have 2 Siberians, I take them to dog parks, but I also play with them and take them on 5 mile walks. Yes they are for sledding, but they'll literally sit with you for hours doing nothing! One is almost 3 and the other is 7 months, I'm thinking about doing this with them as the girl gets closer to a year.
Funny, I have all those commands (except "ready")with the same way of saying it, but they are "OK!", "left", "right", "go on", "sloooooow", and "wait" :D
I'm here because I have a husky and you sound like me. Lol. Looked into it before getting her and couldn't find any info on UA-cam. Thank you for the video.

Honestly this video was great for me. I saw bike joring videos on tik tok a while back and thought it was quite cool. Then I was surprised with a German shepherd puppy for my 18 birthday and have been loving training her but I have learnt when wearing a harness she like to pull a lot and so I wanted to put that to good use. I bought a new bike got myself some protective gear but I’ve been looking for some real information on how to start this hobby/sport. My puppy is only 5 months old and still has a lot of growing to do yet so definitely not gonna get her to do full bike joring yet but I have been getting her used to being out with a bike and keeping her beside me while I ride and she really loves the exercise. I can’t wait to use the imformation from this video to get to bike joring in the future
@@Spott10 A long run with commands to guide the dogs would be a good start. Not enough footage in this video to appreciate how to avoid accidents by giving commands. Although it`s an excellent introductory vido, thanks.
Great video and very clear explanation. I am new owner of 2 Huskies, there are now 7months and 11months old and so far we use to walk like 10-12 km at the mountains 2-3 days in the week (the rest days just small walks around) and I'm thinking to start ride a bike in order to have them running a little bit, not necessarily to pull me, just to take off their energy when we do shorter walks daily. Do you think we can try or there are too young for this ? Another question, how long has to be rope affront of the bicycle to the dogs? Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷💙
Hope yall keep up the mushing vids. Best informational one I've found on this awesome activity. I've got all the gear ordered now I'm just dreading the price of a decent bike...
We plan to! We're already jotting down ideas, but if there's anything specific that you'd like to see or learn about, let us know! We also enjoy canicross with our pups so expect some videos on that as well. As far as the bike goes, I'd say it really depends on where you and your pup plan on going and how extreme you plan on getting. We started on our old 12 year old mountain bikes. They worked fine for quite a while until we started going down harder trails and reached their limits and decided to upgrade to more modern technology with disc brakes.
@@Spott10 i want and need to run a gsp and apbt. Both high energy and the pointer extremely so. I think I will definitely need the disc brakes lol. Understandably since I've trained to heel whenever we go walking and such. Any advice on how to get him out of doing this and to pull instead? What would you recommend as a maximum distance when you start. Is 5 miles too much for a single dog? How often should you stop to cool off the dog in the spring or fall?
We routinely do 6-8 miles single dog. Their longest day was 23 miles, but we took it slow and took a long lunch break. I'd recommend starting around 2-3 miles and see how your dog responds. It's possible they'll be able to go 5 miles right away, but unless they're already a runner, their joints and muscles may not to build into those distances -- especially if they're going hard the whole time.
Thank you so much. I have a 5 month old Siberian husky pitbull mix and she is so full of energy . I can't keep up with her and when she doesn't get her energy release she kind of becomes a monster so I'm trying to find a way to give her that release. The problem is she's very difficult to walk she pulls and she is so strong so I've been thinking about a cart . instead of trying to teach her not to pull just let her pull. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

This is super useful! However, I haven't been able to find any information about how to *TEACH* the commands--only what the commands mean. Are there any videos out there, and if not, would you consider making one? Seems like a big gap in being able to start mushing!
about 5 videos ago on another channel I was watching, a lady was teaching her dogs one by one, the basic commands, when she was taking her dogs for a regular "walk"... so that hooking them up to the sled-line isn't problematic, and they already have an idea of what to do.
great video! I need to figure out some way to burn off my huskies' energy and this seems like a lot of fun... now I just have to learn how to ride a bike 😂...
Unbelievable, we are neighbors! I live in La Pine. Do you have a little club? This is too cool. I went to high school in K. Falls. Our dogs have not been socialized with other dogs. Perhaps a private lesson at first?
Could you make a video on how to teach them the commands you’ve mentioned? I know which commands you need to teach but I be can’t really find anything on how to teach the commands.
Hi, thanks for sharing! One question to the commands: what do you use if you want to Overtake people? "Left past" or "right past"? What is to do, if I meet other dogs from hiker by bikejöring sport?

Excelent video. I am totaly new on this. I speak spanish and a little of english. I do not understend what kind of brand is the best harness.
Where is the link for the harnesses you use? After taking measurements, I think we need a custom…
Amazing content!
Thanks for the video as we want to start this worth our dogs and some videos just don’t give enough info and informative!! Now we’re just have to find a safe trail. From Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (Bonnie)
This is an awesome video
This is super useful! However, I haven't been able to find any information about how to *TEACH* the commands--only what the commands mean. Are there any videos out there, and if not, would you consider making one? Seems like a big gap in being able to start mushing!
about 5 videos ago on another channel I was watching, a lady was teaching her dogs one by one, the basic commands, when she was taking her dogs for a regular "walk"... so that hooking them up to the sled-line isn't problematic, and they already have an idea of what to do.
Are lurchers suatable for bike joring? Looking to get into it
great video!
Thank you this is so interesting !! I love it !!
Is there a link for the steel cable bungee that’s connected with the two carabiners
Thank you! Do you know a similar equipment supplier in Montreal, Quebec, Canada?
Could you make a video on how to teach them the commands you’ve mentioned? I know which commands you need to teach but I be can’t really find anything on how to teach the commands.
Thanks for the great idea!
I second Isla's request 👍
Hi, thanks for sharing! One question to the commands: what do you use if you want to Overtake people? "Left past" or "right past"? What is to do, if I meet other dogs from hiker by bikejöring sport?
“Gee over” “haw over”
Do you guys have any experience with the tug n tow mechanism? Or know anyone who does?
